RESUMO

The demand for the detection of ultralow concentrations of ammonia gas is growing. A bimetallic metal-organic framework (MOF) comprising Prussian blue analogs (PBAs) was used to achieve highly sensitive and stable detection of ammonia gas at room temperature in this study. First, PB was enriched by using ammonia for improved gas sensing properties. Second, a sensitive membrane with more vacancies was formed by partially replacing Fe3+ with Cu2+ through a cation-exchange strategy. Finally, a capacitive sensor was developed for ultralow-concentration ammonia detection using a Cu-Fe PBA sensitive membrane and interdigitated electrodes (IDEs). To investigate the adsorption efficiency of the designed composite sensitive film for ammonia, PBAs nanoparticles were deposited on a quartz microcrystal balance (QCM) via cyclic voltammetry and a hydrothermal method. Approximately 10 ppm of ammonia was adsorbed under 1 atm by the Cu-Fe PBA film prepared using a reaction time of 36 h, and the adsorption efficiency was measured to be 2.2 mmol g-1 using the QCM frequency response. The Cu-Fe PBAs were also tested using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller theory. The introduction of Cu2+ ions significantly increased the specific surface area of Cu-Fe PBAs MOF, and the number of adsorption sites for ammonia also increased; however, its skeleton structure remained similar to that of PB. Then, the capacitive sensor based on Cu-Fe PBA sensitive membrane and IDE was fabricated and the gas sensing detection device was established for ammonia detection. Overall, the developed capacitive sensor exhibits a linear response of 75-1000 ppb and a detection limit of 3.8 ppb for ultralow ammonia concentrations, which makes it superior to traditional detection methods and thus allows excellent application prospects.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) is by now the second of the most prevalent neurodegenerative diseases in the world, and its incidence is increasing rapidly as the global population ages, with 14.2 million PD patients expected worldwide by 2040. METHODS: We gathered a completion of 45 serum samples, including 15 of healthy controls and 30 from the PD group. We used non-targeted metabolomics analysis based on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry to identify the molecular changes in PD patients, and conducted bioinformatics analysis on this basis to explore the possible pathogenesis of PD. RESULTS: We found significant metabolomics changes in the levels of 30 metabolites in PD patients compared with healthy controls. CONCLUSION: Lipids and lipid-like molecules accounted for the majority of the 30 differentially expressed metabolites. Also, pathway enrichment analysis showed significant enrichment in sphingolipid metabolic pathway. These assessments can improve our perception on the underlying mechanism of PD as well as facilitate a better targeting on therapeutic interventions.

RESUMO

Brown rot caused by Monilinia spp. is an important postharvest disease. It affects fruit quality and can cause serious economic losses. In October 2021, typical brown rot symptoms on fruit were observed at an apple orchard in Xiaobaishan Township, Jilin Province, China (E126°39'10″, N43°44'21″). Over 1200 plants were surveyed in the orchard, and nearly 25% of the plants were infected. In this research, samples from ten different trees showing typical symptoms were isolated and identified. Freshly diseased fruits were surface sterilized with 75% ethanol for 15s, then fungal colonies were isolated from 3 mm diameter diseased tissue samples. The purified colonies were placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA), oatmeal agar (OA) and water agar (WA + Sterilized apple pulp) and incubated at 25 ℃ in a 12 h/12 h light-dark photoperiod for 5 days. The colonies became light to dark brown; they grew faster on PDA with a growth rate of 5.53 mm/d, most densely on OA and slowest on SA + sterilized apple pulp with thin mycelia. After 20 days, some transparent, oval, smooth conidia were observed on the SA + sterile apple culture medium. Conidia sizes were 8.27-16.54 (avg. 11.97) x 2.92-7.09 (avg. 4.52) um (n=50) (Hilber-Bodmer et al. 2012). Pure cultures of eight samples were isolated from single spores, and DNA was extracted with a commercial nucleic acid extraction kit (Omega, cat#D3390-01). Then, fragments of the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS), translation elongation factor 1 alpha (EF1-alpha), beta-tubulin (Bt), and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase genes(G3pdh) were PCR amplified using primes ITS1/ITS4 (White et al. 1990), EF1-728F/EF1-986R (Carbone and Kohn 1999), BT-2a/BT-2b (Glass and Donaldson 1995), and G3pdhF/G3pdhR (Hu et al. 2011) respectively. The amplicons were sequenced by Takara Bio Inc. Sequences of all isolates were identical, thus one set of sequences were run with BLASTn against the NCBI GenBank nr database. The homology analysis showed that ITS (OQ170786), Bt (OQ179019), EF (OQ834046) and G3pdh (OQ834047) gene fragments were 100% (0/540 nt) , 100% (0/462 nt), 99.01% (3/304nt) and 99.61% (3/767 nt) similar to M. polystroma (NR154198.1, MT038414.1, LT632542.1, MT038415.1)respectively. Based on morphological characteristics and sequence analysis, the fungal isolate was identified as M. polystroma. Koch's postulates were conducted using ten healthy apple fruits that were surface disinfected with 0.2% sodium hypochlorite and repeatedly rinsed with sterile water. The test apples were wounded with a sterile needle, inoculated with mycelial agar plugs (3 mm diameter) on the wounds, and incubated at 25℃, 50% room humidity. The equivalent sterile PDA plugs were used as control and the experiment was repeated three times. After 5 days, brown rot symptoms appeared on the inoculated apples. 10 days later, nearly 1/3 of the inoculated apple surface appeared rotted, but the controls were symptomless. Subsequently, the same strain was re-isolated from the inoculated apples by pure culture and molecular identification. Therefore, M. polystroma (named JL-1) was confirmed as the causal agent of brown rot in Jilin Provincen China. M. polystroma is a typical pathogen of brown rot in the north of China, and only reported on apples in Shandong, apricots in Heilongjiang and pears in Hebei in China (Zhu et al. 2016) but never in Jilin. In addition, it was reported that the contribution of M. polystroma species to brown rot disease on apple and pear in China is 20% out of all the Monilinia spp. species that cause the disease, but M. polystroma virulence is not significantly different from other Monilinia species more widely distributed (Zhu et al, 2016). This is the first report of M. polystroma causing apple brown rot in Jilin Province of China. This finding will provide useful information for future diagnosis and management.

RESUMO

Perovskites with nano-flexible texture structures and excellent catalytic properties have attracted considerable attention for persulfate activation in addressing the organic pollutants in water. In this study, highly crystalline nano-sized LaFeO3 was synthesized by a non-aqueous benzyl alcohol (BA) route. Under optimal conditions, an 83.9% tetracycline (TC) degradation and 54.3% mineralization were achieved at 120 min by using a coupled persulfate/photocatalytic process. Especially compared to LaFeO3-CA (synthesized by a citric acid complexation route), the pseudo-first-order reaction rate constant increased by 1.8 times. We attribute this good degradation performance to the highly specific surface area and small crystallite size of the obtained materials. In this study, we also investigated the effects of some key reaction parameters. Then, the catalyst stability and toxicity tests were also discussed. The surface sulfate radicals were identified as the major reactive species during the oxidation process. This study provided a new insight into nano-constructing a novel perovskite catalyst for the removal of tetracycline in water.

RESUMO

Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation was recently reported to have a therapeutic potential for functional dyspepsia (FD). This study aimed to explore the integrative effects and mechanisms of auricular vagus nerve stimulation (aVNS) in a rodent model of FD. METHODS: We evaluated the effects of aVNS on visceral hypersensitivity, gastric motility and open field test (OFT) activity in iodoacetamide (IA)-treated rats. The autonomic function was assessed; blood samples and tissues were collected and analyzed by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and western blot. Vagotomy was performed to investigate the role of vagal efferent nerve. RESULTS: aVNS reduced the electromyography response to gastric distension, improved gastric emptying and increased the horizontal and vertical motion scores of the OFT in IA-treated rats. The sympathovagal ratio was increased in IA-treated rats but normalized with aVNS. The serum cytokines TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1ß and NF-κBp65 were increased in IA-treated rats and decreased with aVNS. The hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis was hyperactive in IA-treated rats but inhibited by aVNS. The expression of duodenal desmoglein 2 and occludin were all decreased in IA-treated rats and increased with aVNS but not sham-aVNS. Vagotomy abolished the ameliorating effects of aVNS on gastric emptying, horizontal motions, serum TNF-α and duodenal NF-κBp65. CONCLUSION: aVNS improves gastric motility and gastric hypersensitivity probably by anti-inflammatory mechanisms via the vago-vagal pathways. A better understanding on the mechanisms of action involved with aVNS would lead to the optimization of the taVNS methodology and promote taVNS as a non-pharmacological alternative therapy for FD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There are 9.9 million new cases of dementia in the world every year. Short-term conversion rate from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to dementia is between 20% and 40%, but long-term in 5-10 years ranges from 60% to 100%. It is particularly important to prevent or prolong the development of MCI into dementia. Both auriculotherapy and vagus nerve stimulation are effective on improving cognitive functions. However, there is no double blinded randomized clinical trial to support the effectiveness of transcutaneous electrical stimulation of auricular acupoints in patients with MCI. METHODS: This randomized controlled trial involved patients with MCI, aged from 55 to 75 years old. Patients were randomly allocated to transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) group or sham taVNS group. In the taVNS group, two auricular acupoints were stimulated, including heart (concha, CO15) and kidney (CO10), which are in the distribution of vagus nerve. While in the sham taVNS group, two other auricular acupoints were stimulated, including elbow (scaphoid fossa, SF3) and shoulder (SF4,5), which are out of the distribution of vagus nerve. The primary outcome was the Montreal cognitive assessment-basic, MOCA-B. The secondary outcomes included auditory verbal learning test-HuaShan version (AVLT-H), shape trails test A&B (STT-A&B), animal fluence test (AFT), Boston naming test (BNT), Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder screening questionnaire (RBDSQ), Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS) and functional activities questionnaire (FAQ). These outcome measures were taken at baseline, 24 weeks later. RESULTS: After 24 weeks of intervention, the data of 52 patients were intended for analysis. After intervention, there was significant difference in the overall scores of MoCA-B between taVNS group and sham taVNS group (p = 0.033 < 0.05). In taVNS group, compared with before intervention, the overall scores of MOCA-B increased significantly after intervention (p < 0.001). As for N5 and N7, the two sub-indicators of AVLT-H, in taVNS group, compared with before intervention, both N5 and N7 increased significantly after intervention (both ps < 0.001). As for STTB, in taVNS group, compared with before intervention, STTB was significantly reduced after intervention (p = 0.016). For BNT, in taVNS group, compared with before intervention, BNT increased significantly after intervention (p < 0.001). In taVNS group, compared with before intervention, PSQI, RBDSQ, ESS and FAQ decreased significantly after intervention (p = 0.002, 0.025, <0.001, 0.006 respectively). 1 patient with a history of tympanic membrane perforation in taVNS group was reported with mild adverse reactions which disappeared a week after termination of taVNS. The intervention of taVNS is effective on increasing the overall scores of MoCA-B, N5 and N7. CONCLUSION: The clinical trial demonstrated that taVNS can improve cognitive performance in patients with MCI. This inexpensive, effective and innovative method can be recommended as a therapy for more patients with MCI in the prevention or prolonging of its development into dementia, but it is still required to be further investigated. RESUMO

The stem bark of Magnolia officinalis is a traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of abdominal distention and functional dyspepsia. The pharmacokinetics of three glycosides (magnoloside A, magnoloside B, and syringin) and two lignans (honokiol and magnolol) in both normal and functional dyspepsia rats were firstly investigated by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry method and the influences of the coexisting compounds on the pharmacokinetic parameters of honokiol and magnolol were also studied. It was found that all of the five target compounds were quickly absorbed and eliminated in both normal and functional dyspepsia rats, while, their residence time was significantly decreased in pathological states except magnoloside A. The coexisting compounds in the stem bark of M. officinalis significantly reduced absorption and increased elimination of honokiol in vivo. It's worth noticing that the volume of distribution of lignan was quite lower than that of a glycoside. Moreover, the metabolic profiling of magnoloside A, honokiol, and magnolol in vivo was analyzed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry method, from which three prototypes were identified and 35 metabolites were putatively characterized, and 18 unknown metabolites were reasonably characterized for the first time. The results indicated that sulfation and glucuronidation were the main metabolic pathways of honokiol and magnolol.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) on gastric sensitivity and motility in rats with functional dyspepsia (FD), so as to explore its underlying mechanism in improving FD. METHODS: A total of 48 young SD rats were randomly divided into control (n=10), model (n=9), taVNS (n=9), subdiaphragmatic vagus nerve stimulation (SDVNS, n=9) and sham SDVNS (n=7) groups. The FD model was established by gavage of 0.1% iodoa-cetamide+2% glucose, once daily for 6 days. Rats in the taVNS group received taVNS (0.5 mA) of optopoint "Heart" and "Stomach" for 30 min, once daily for 14 days, while rats in the SDVNS group received subdiaphragmatic vagus nerve stimulation through the implanted electrode, and those of the sham SDVNS group received only application of the same electrodes without electrical stimulation. Electromyogram (EMG) of the cervical trapezius muscle (reflecting gastric sensitivity) was recorded before and after intragastric expansion via an air ballon and the gastric emptying rate was calculated for assessing the gastric motility. The contents of acetylcholine (ACh), nicotinic acetylcholine receptor α7 subunit (α7nAChR), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in the duodenum tissue were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The expression of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) p65 in the duodenum tissue was determined by Western blot. RESULTS: In comparison with the control group, the EMG change rate at intragastric pressure levels of 40, 60 and 80 mm Hg, expression of NF-κB p65 protein, and contents of IL-6, IL-1ß and TNF-α were significantly increased (P<0.05,P<0.01, P<0.001), while the gastric emptying rate, ACh and α7nAChR contents considerably decreased (P<0.05, P<0.001) in the model group. After interventions, the EMG change rate, contents of IL-6, IL-1ß and TNF-α, and expression of NF-κB p65 were notably decreased (P<0.05, P<0.01, P<0.001), and the gastric emptying rate, ACh and α7nAChR contents obviously increased (P<0.05, P<0.001) in both taVNS and SDVNS groups relevant to the model group. In comparison with the sham SDVNS group, the EMG change rate, contents of IL-6, IL-1ß and TNF-α, and expression of NF-κB p65 were notably decreased (P<0.01, P<0.05,P<0.001), and the gastric emptying rate, ACh and α7nAChR contents obviously increased (P<0.01, P<0.001) in the both SDVNS and taVNS groups. CONCLUSION: taVNS can reduce gastric sensitivity and promote gastric emptying in FD model rats, which may be closely related to its functions in up-regulating ACh and α7nAChR contents and inhibiting the activation of NF-κB p65 signaling in the duodenum.

RESUMO

The efficient detection of cancer markers has faced many challenges, such as severe interference, complicated and time-consuming operation, low sensitivity and so on. In this paper, a microfluidic chip integrated with electrodes for dielectrophoretic (DEP) separation, microchannels for electrochemical nanoprobes binding and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) detection was proposed for the sensitive and rapid detection of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in whole blood. The functional units, which could realize cell separation, PSA derivatization (binding of electrochemical nanoprobes), capture and detection, were integrated on the microfluidic chip. The well-designed V-shaped interdigital electrode arrays provided DEP separation for blood cells with efficiency as high as 98%. Particularly, DEP effect significantly improved the sensitivity of PSA detection and reduced the detection limit by two orders of magnitude. In order to achieve sensitive detection of PSA, binding of electrochemical nanoprobes and then DPV detection was selected and integrated following the DEP separation. A sandwich structure based on electrochemical nanoprobes and dual-aptamers for on-chip DPV detection was proposed, which included self-synthesized electrochemical nanoprobes bovine serum albumin/detection aptamer 2/polythionine@gold nanoparticles (BSA/Apt2/PThi@Au NPs), target PSA, and sensing interface 6-mercaptohexanol/capture aptamer 1/gold nanoparticles on gold electrode (MCH/Apt1/Au NPs/Au). The method of quantitative detection of PSA in whole blood was then established. The excellent performance of the microfluidic chip allowed the determination of PSA in whole blood in the range of 1 pg/mL ∼10 ng/mL with an ultralow limit of detection of 0.25 pg/mL, which was better than the results obtained by conventional methods.

RESUMO

Autonomous planning robotic contact-rich manipulation has long been a challenging problem. Automatic peeling of glass substrates of LCD flat panel displays is a typical contact-rich manipulation task, which requires extremely high safe handling through the manipulation process. To this end of peeling glass substrates automatically, the system model is established from data and is used for the online planning of the robot motion in this paper. A simulation environment is designed to pretrain the process model with deep learning-based neural network structure to avoid expensive and time-consuming collection of real-time data. Then, an online learning algorithm is introduced to tune the pretrained model according to the real-time data from the peeling process experiments to cover the uncertainties of the real process. Finally, an Online Learning Model Predictive Path Integral (OL-MPPI) algorithm is proposed for the optimal trajectory planning of the robot. The performance of our algorithm was validated through glass substrate peeling tasks of experiments.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis is the most important endocrine system to control irritability response. Functional dyspepsia (FD) is closely related to irritability. This study aimed to preliminarily explore the corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) mechanism of auricular vagus nerve stimulation (aVNS) for FD model rats. METHODS: Sprague-Dawley adult male rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group, aVNS group, and sham-aVNS group. Except for the normal rats, all other rats were induced into the FD model through tail-clamping stimulation for 3 weeks. Once the rat model was developed successfully, rats in the aVNS group and sham-aVNS group were intervened with aVNS or sham-aVNS for 2 weeks. No intervention was given to rats in the normal and model groups. The effect of aVNS was assessed. The expressions of hippocampal corticotropin-releasing hormone receptor 1 (CRHR1), hypothalamus CRF, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), and corticosterone in serum were assessed. RESULTS: 1. Compared with normal rats, model-developing rats showed FD-like behavior. 2. Compared with model rats, rats in the aVNS group showed an improved general condition score and gastric motility, and increased horizontal and vertical motion scores. 3. The release of corticosterone, ACTH in serum, and CRF in the hypothalamus all increased in model rats but decreased with aVNS instead of sham-aVNS. 4. The expression of hippocampus CRHR1 was lower in model rats but higher in the aVNS group. CONCLUSION: aVNS ameliorates gastric motility and improves the mental state in the FD-like rat, probably via inhibiting the CRF pathway.

RESUMO

As a representative of acupuncture and nonpharmaceutical therapy, auricular acupuncture has been widely for the treatment of insomnia. Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) is a combination of auricular point stimulation and vagus nerve stimulation. It can not only treat primary insomnia effectively, but also is noninvasive, painless, portable and economical. The medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is a core region of default mode network (DMN), which is important for maintenance of sleep. However, the mechanism of taVNS in alleviating primary insomnia (PI) remains to be clarified. In this study, we found that taVNS could not only effectively reduce the score of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, but also decreased functional connection (FC) between the left mPFC and bilateral dorsal anterior cingulate gyrus as well as FC between the right mPFC and the occipital cortex in patients with PI. Furthermore, the decrease in FC was positively correlated with the decline of sleep index score. Therefore, we proposed that treatment with taVNS can improve sleep quality and prolong sleep duration in patients with PI by reducing FC within DMN, FC between DMN and salience network, as well as FC between DMN and the occipital cortex. This may be one of mechanisms of taVNS in treating PI.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) on the autonomic nerve function in a rat model of functional dyspepsia (FD), so as to explore the mechanism of taVNS underlying regulation of FD. METHODS: SD rats were randomly divided into normal control group(n=8) and FD model group(n=26).The FD model was replicated with iodoacetamide gavage. The FD model rats were randomly divided into model, taVNS, sham-taVNS and Zusanli(ST36) groups, with 6 rats in each group. Rats in the taVNS group received electrical stimulation of auricular concha, while the sham-taVNS group received no electrical stimulation and rats in the ST36 group received stimulation at ST36 for 30 min once daily for 14 consecutive days. Cervical trapezius electromyography score and abdominal withdrawal reflex (AWR) score were used to evaluate gastric sensitivity. Histopathological changes of the gastric antrum tissue were observed under microscope after H.E. staining. Autonomic nerve function in rats was recorded and assessed by heart rate variability(HRV). The content of acetylcholine (Ach) and the expression of Ach receptor M3R in gastric antrum was detect by ELISA and Western blot, separately. RESULTS: Compared with the normal control group, the cervical trapezius electromyography and AWR scores of the model group increased (P<0.01, P<0.001), and there was no erosion in the gastric antral mucosa and muscle layer. The high-frequency power (HF) in HRV decreased (P<0.05), the ratio of low-frequency power/high-frequency power (LF/HF) increased (P<0.001), and the Ach content and its receptor M3R expression in gastric antrum tissue decreased (P<0.05). Following interventions, the cervical trapezius electromyography and AWR scores decreased (P<0.01,P<0.001, P<0.05), HF in HRV increased and LF/HF decreased(P<0.01,P<0.05,P<0.001), and the content of Ach in gastric antrum tissue and the expression of its receptor M3R increased (P<0.01, P<0.05) in both taVNS and ST36 groups relevant to the model group. CONCLUSION: taVNS can increase the activity of the vagus nerve and regulate the balance of the autonomic nerve function, which may be one of the mechanisms of taVNS in reducing the gastric sensitivity of rats with FD. In regulating the vagus nerve function, taVNS and acupuncture at ST36 acupoint have the similar effects.

RESUMO

Whether in the West or the East, the connection between the ear and the rest of the body has been explored for a long time. Especially in the past century or more, the relevant theoretical and applied research on the ear has greatly promoted the development of ear therapy, and finally the concept of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) has been proposed. The purpose of taVNS is to treat a disease non-invasively by applying electrical current to the cutaneous receptive field formed by the auricular branch of the vagus nerve in the outer ear. In the past two decades, taVNS has been a topic of basic, clinical, and transformation research. It has been applied as an alternative to drug treatment for a variety of diseases. Based on the rapid understanding of the application of taVNS to human health and disease, some limitations in the development of this field have also been gradually exposed. Here, we comprehensively review the origin and research status of the field.

Magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes were prepared as magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) adsorbent for the enrichment of six heterocyclic pesticides in environmental water samples, including imidacloprid, triadimefon, fipronil, flusilazole, chlorfenapyr and fenpyroximate. Then six heterocyclic pesticides were separated and determined by high-performance liquid chromatography-diode-array detector (HPLC-DAD). Major factors influencing MSPE efficiency, including the dose of mag-multi-walled carbon nanotubes (mag-MWCNTs), extraction time, solution pH, salt concentration, type and volume of eluent and desorption time were investigated. Under the optimized conditions, the enrichment factor of the method reached to 250. The linearity was achieved within 0.05-10.0 µg/L for imidacloprid and chlorfenapyr, 0.10-10.0 µg/L for fipronil, flusilazole, triadimefon and fenpyroximate. Limits of detection were in the range of 0.01-0.03 µg/L. Good precision at three spiked levels were 1.1-11.2% (intra-day) and 1.7-11.0% (inter-day) with relative standard deviation of peak area, respectively. The developed method was utilized to analyze tap water, river water and reservoir water samples and recoveries at three spiked concentration levels ranged from 72.2% to 107.5%. The method was proved to be a convenient, rapid and practical method for sensitive determination of heterocyclic pesticides.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the immediate brain effect of auricular electroacupuncture (EA) in the treatment of primary insomnia (PI). METHODS: In this study, 15 subjects with PI who were diagnosed according to Pitsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and other 15 age- and gender-matched subjects without insomnia were recruited in the present study. The PI patients received EA (4 Hz/20 Hz, a tolerable electrical current strength) of auricular concha for 30 min, and their resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data before and after treatment were collected. The healthy subjects received no any treatment and their resting state fMRI data were collected. The diffe-rence of default mode network functional connectivity between the patients and healthy subjects, and changes of the patient's brain functional connectivity after EA treatment were estimated by using seed-point-based analysis (SPBA). RESULTS: Analysis by taking the posterior cingulate gyrus as the seed-point showed that compared with the healthy participants before treatment, the patient's brain functional connectivity between the posterior cingulate gyrus and the right insula, or the inferior frontal gyrus of the right opercularis region, or the right rolandic operculum was increased. After 30 minutes' EA treatment, the functional connectivity between the posterior cingulate gyrus and the precuneus, the left angular gyrus, the left frontal superior gyrus, the left frontal middle cortex, the right temporalis inferior gyrus, the right temporalis middle gyrus or the left medial orbitofrontal cortex was decreased, while the functional connectivity between the posterior cingulate gyrus and the right lingual gyrus, or the cortex surrounding the right calcarine fissure was increased. CONCLUSION: EA of auricular concha has an instant effect in modulating the brain default mode network in PI patients, which may be its brain mechanism underlying improvement of PI.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine a new method to create a rat model of diarrhea with spleen-kidney yang deficiency syndrome. METHODS: A senna leaf (Folium sennae) decoction was made in 3 concentrations of 1.0, 0.5, and 0.25 g/mL. Rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: the control (C)-, high (H)-, middle (M)-, and low (L)- dose groups. The groups received saline, 1.0, 0.5, or 0.25 g/mL senna leaf decoction, respectively, for 4 weeks. Body weight monitoring, food consumption, water intake, defecation frequency, stool Bristol score, weight-loaded forced swimming test, forelimb grip strength test, D-xylose absorption test, serum cortisone, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), 24 h urine 17-hydroxycorticosteroid (17-OHCS), and histopathological detection were conducted to assess the success of the senna leaf decoction-induced model. RESULTS: This study showed that the senna leaf decoction could induce diarrhea and dose-dependently slow body weight growth, reduce food consumption, and increase water intake, stool Bristol score, and defecation frequency. Statistical differences were found between groups H and M in rectal temperature, weight-loaded forced swimming time, forelimb grip strength, and serum cortisone. The D-xylose absorption test also showed dysfunction of intestinal absorption in groups H and M. The serum cortisone and 24 h urine 17-OHCS were significantly reduced in group H. CONCLUSIONS: Gastric gavage of 10 mL/kg of body weight of a high concentration of a senna leaf decoction (1.0 g/mL) for 4 weeks was used to create a rat model of diarrhea with spleen-kidney yang deficiency syndrome.

RESUMO

This paper introduces a method for optimizing the terahertz (THz) imaging resolution in a specified field of view (FoV) for a scanning dual reflector system (Gregory or Cassegrain system) based on the theory of field curvature. The authors built a Gregory scanning system to verify the ability of this method. The operating frequency of the verification system is 220 GHz, the FoV at a specified distance of 8 m is approximately 50 cm * 100 cm, and the imaging resolution throughout the entire FoV is better than 3 cm. Experimental results show that the imaging resolution of the classical dual reflector system can be optimized, and the proposed verification system can realize active THz imaging of the human body.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) is one of the most common diseases presenting to gastroenterology clinics. Acupuncture is widely used as a complementary and alternative treatment for patients with GORD. OBJECTIVE: To explore the effectiveness of acupuncture for the treatment of GORD. METHODS: Four English and four Chinese databases were searched through June 2016. Randomised controlled trials investigating the effectiveness of manual acupuncture or electroacupuncture (MA/EA) for GORD versus or as an adjunct to Western medicine (WM) were selected. Data extraction and quality evaluation were performed by two authors independently and RevMan 5.2.0 was used to analyse data. RESULTS: A total of 12 trials involving 1235 patients were included. Meta-analyses demonstrated that patients receiving MA/EA combined with WM had a superior global symptom improvement compared with those receiving WM alone (relative risk (RR) 1.17, 95% CI 1.09 to 1.26; p=0.03; six studies) with no significant heterogeneity (I2=0%, p=0.41). Recurrence rates of those receiving MA/EA alone were lower than those receiving WM (RR 0.42,95% CI 0.29 to 0.61; p<0.001; three studies) with low heterogeneity (I2=7%, p=0.34), while global symptom improvement (six studies) and symptom scores (three studies) were similar (both p>0.05). Descriptive analyses suggested that acupuncture also improves quality of life in patients with GORD. CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis suggests that acupuncture is an effective and safe treatment for GORD. However, due to the small sample size and poor methodological quality of the included trials, further studies are required to validate our conclusions. RESUMO

This paper introduces a dual-band terahertz imaging system as a potential product for nondestructive testing using heterodyne detectors and continuous-wave sources. The operating frequencies of the system are 110.4 and 220.8 GHz. Multiband fusion technology combines the advantages of the greater spatial resolution of the high-frequency band and the enhanced sensitivity of the low-frequency band to improve the detection ability of the system. Additionally, the interference cancellation technology is used to obtain a superior image quality. The spatial resolution of this system was approximately 3 mm. The results show that the system can be used for bonding quality and embedded defect detection in radomes and foam materials adhered to metal plates in aircrafts.
