RESUMO

Chinese Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) is a new superconducting tokamak device being designed in China, which aims at bridging the gap between ITER and DEMO, where DEMO is a tokamak demonstration fusion reactor. Two diagnostic cases, ITER-like case and towards DEMO case, have been considered for CFETR early and later operating phases, respectively. In this paper, some preliminary consideration of ITER-like case will be presented. Based on ITER diagnostic system, three versions of increased complexity and coverage of the ITER-like case diagnostic system have been developed with different goals and functions. Version A aims only machine protection and basic control. Both of version B and version C are mainly for machine protection, basic and advanced control, but version C has an increased level of redundancy necessary for improved measurements capability. The performance of these versions and needed R&D work are outlined.

RESUMO

Ten years of calving records were examined from Bos taurus crossbred cows (mean of 182 cows/yr) to quantify the effects of environmental conditions during the breeding season on pregnancy rate. Estimated breeding dates were determined by subtracting 283 d from the calving date. Relationships were determined between the proportion of cows bred during the periods from the beginning of the breeding season until d 21, 42, and 60 of the breeding season and the corresponding environmental variables. Weather data were compiled from a weather station located approximately 20 km from the research site. Average daily temperature and relative humidity were used to calculate daily temperature-humidity index (THI). Daily averages for each environmental variable were averaged for each period. Minimum temperature (MNTP) and THI for the first 21 and 42 d of the breeding season were negatively associated (P < 0.001) with pregnancy rate. For the 0-to 21-d, 0- to 42-d, and 0- to 60-d breeding periods, respective r2 for average temperatures were 0.32, 0.37, and 0.11, whereas r2 for MNTP were 0.45, 0.40, and 0.10 and r2 for THI were 0.38, 0.41, and 0.11, respectively, for the same breeding periods. The negative associations of temperature and THI with pregnancy rate are most pronounced during the first 21 d of the breeding season, with a -3.79 and -2.06% change in pregnancy rate for each unit of change in MNTP and THI, respectively. A combination of environmental variables increased the R2 to 0.67. In this analysis, windspeed was found to be positively associated with pregnancy rate in all equations and increased the R2 in all breeding periods. Optimum MNTP for the 0- to 21-d, 0- to 42-d, and 0- to 60-d breeding periods was 12.6, 13.5, and 14.9 degrees C, respectively. For the 0- to 60-d breeding period, optimum THI was 68.0, whereas the THI threshold, the calculated level at which cattle will adapt, was found to be 72.9. Reductions in pregnancy rate are likely when the average MNTP and THI equal or exceed 16.7 degrees C and 72.9, respectively, and for Bos taurus beef cows that are pasture bred during a 60-d spring-summer period.

RESUMO

A dramatic enhancement in fluorescence intensity from 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol (BINOL) to dendritic phenyleneethynylenes containing the BINOL core was observed. The strong fluorescence of the dendrimers allows a very small amount of the chiral materials to be used for sensing. The light harvesting antennas of the dendrimer funnel energy to the center BINOL unit, whose hydroxyl groups upon interaction with a quencher molecule lead to fluorescence quenching. This mechanism makes the dendrimers have much more sensitive fluorescence responses than corresponding small molecule sensors. The fluorescence of these dendrimers can be enantioselectively quenched by chiral amino alcohols. It is observed that the fluorescence lifetime of the generation two dendrimer does not change in the presence of various concentrations of 2-amino-3-phenyl-1-propanol. This demonstrates that the fluorescence quenching is entirely due to static quenching. Thus, formation of nonfluorescent ground-state hydrogen-bond complexes between the dendrimers and amino alcohols is proposed to account for the fluorescent quenching. A linear relationship has been established between the Stern-Völmer constant of the generation two dendrimer and the enantiomeric composition of 2-amino-3-phenyl-1-propanol. Such enantioselective fluorescent sensors may allow a rapid determination of the enantiomeric composition of chiral molecules and are potentially useful in the combinatorial search of asymmetric catalysts and reagents.

RESUMO

Optically active dendrimers containing a 1,1'-binaphthyl core and cross-conjugated phenylene dendrons were synthesized and characterized. The chiral optical properties of these phenylene-based dendrimers are different from the previously reported phenyleneethynylene-based dendrimers probably because of the increased steric interaction between the adjacent phenylene units. UV and fluorescence spectroscopic studies demonstrate that the energy harvested by the periphery of the dendrimers can be efficiently transferred to the more conjugated core, generating much enhanced fluorescence signal at higher generation. The fluorescence of these dendrimers can be quenched both efficiently and enantioselectively by chiral amino alcohols. The energy migration and light-harvesting effects of the dendrimers make the higher generation dendrimer more sensitive to fluorescent quenchers than the lower ones. Thus, the dendritic structure provides a signal amplification mechanism. These materials are potentially useful in the enantioselective recognition of chiral organic molecules.

RESUMO

Experiments were performed on freshly isolated dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons of rat. GABA(A)-activated currents were recorded using the whole-cell patch clamp technique. The majority of the neurons (48/52, 90.5%) were sensitive to GABA (10( 6)~10( 3) mol/L). Application of oxytocin (OT) induced outward membrane responses in 51.3% (20/39) of the neurons, no apparent responses in 43.6% (17/39) and inward responses in 5.1% (2/39). 10( 12), 10( 11), 10( 10) and 10( 9) mol/L OT increased 10( 4) mol/L GABA-activated currents to 24.1+/-7.6% (n=6), 33.4+/-6.9% (n=9), 40.2+/-6.5% (n=13) and 67.2+/-14.8% (n=5), respectively. After preapplication of OT, the Kd value for GABA(A)-activated currents decreased, while the response obtained at the maximum concentration increased. The results suggest that the enhancement of GABA-activated currents by OT may suppress primary sensory transmission by potentiating pre-synaptic inhibition of GABA.
