RESUMO

Hypochlorite (ClO-) is an important redox regulator in reactive oxygen species, which play a considerable role in oxidative stress and related diseases. Hence, accurate and sensitive monitoring of ClO- concentration was urgently needed in the fields of life sciences, food and environment. Bright green fluorescent carbon quantum dots (G-CQDs) were synthesized utilizing one-step hydrothermal method with citric acid and acriflavine precursors. Through TEM, FTIR, XPS and zeta potential characterization procedures, G-CQDs illustrated uniformly dispersed and significant number of -NH2 and -OH on the surface. Meanwhile, the fluorescence and colorimetric analysis exhibited wide linear range and low detection limit response to ClO-. The fluorescence changes of G-CQDs were identified via smartphone to realize mobile sensing of ClO-. Subsequently, G-CQDs was applied for visualization and quantitative detection of ClO- in drinking water samples with satisfactory recovery rate. More importantly, G-CQDs demonstrated good water solubility, optical stability and excellent biocompatibility, which offered a promising analysis approach in cell imaging and exogenous ClO- detection in living cells. G-CQDs illustrated bright prospect and great potential in practical application of ClO- associated disease prevention and early clinical diagnosis.

RESUMO

The bank slopes in the Three Gorges Reservoir area (TGRA) have experienced obvious deterioration under the action of the periodic fluctuations in the reservoir water level. Generally, laboratory tests have been used to reveal the evolution trend of the slope banks. However, this method has a certain degree of cross-scale problem, especially for the mechanical state in a complex environment. Therefore, in this study, we took the Yangjiaping bank slope in the TGRA as an example and proposed a comprehensive on-site detection method to further reveal the rock mass degradation phenomenon of this typical reverse sand-mudstone interbedded bank slope. Specifically, multi-scale laser scanning, cross-hole acoustic wave detection, and inclination measurements were performed to analyze the fractures, quality, and deformation of rocky banks. The results showed that the deterioration of the bank slope manifested as the expansion, deepening, and widening of the cracks, as well as the peeling off and loosening of rocky banks. Large-scale laser scanning revealed that the deterioration zone was deformed along large fracture zones and layers. Unlike limestone slopes, the intact sandstone underground might be degraded by changes in water. There are few inclinometers and no deformation or weak deformation, which requires long-term monitoring. The relevant research methods provide an important reference for determining the instability and failure trend of the reservoir bank slopes.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to clarify the relationship between doctor-shopping behavior and clinical conditions, and to clearly outline the effects of both the number of clinic visits and the number of doctor changes on patients' health conditions. Data from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2004 was collected from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan. After randomly selecting one million people, we extracted 5-year longitudinal data, about the number of clinic visits, number of doctor changes, and changes in self-health status for each patient with diabetes over the age of 18. We developed a relationship among the variables by using the generalized estimating equation. The results revealed that the number of clinic visits on the change of health status is a U curve, suggesting that health condition could be optimal with an appropriate number of clinic visits. The effect of the number of doctor changes is linearly correlated with health deterioration. The results suggest that disease conditions can only be controlled with an adequate number of clinic visits. Excessively frequent clinic visits are not only unfavorable to patients' health status but are also wasteful of limited medical resources. For diabetic mellitus patients, the more they change doctors, the worse their health status. All of these results are important for patients to stay healthy and to save medical resources.
