RESUMO

Breast cancer (BrCa) is the most prevalent malignant tumor in women and one of the leading causes of female mortality. Its occurrence and progression are influenced by various factors, including genetics, environment, lifestyle, and hormones. In recent years, the gut microbiota has been identified as a significant factor affecting BrCa. The gut microbiota refers to the collective population of various microorganisms in the human gastrointestinal tract. Gut microbiota is closely associated with human health and disease development, participating in crucial physiological functions such as digestion, metabolism, immune response, and neural regulation. It has been found to influence the occurrence and treatment of BrCa through a variety of mechanisms. This article aims to review the immunomodulatory role of the gut microbiota in the development and treatment of BrCa.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the correlation between positive psychological capital, post-traumatic growth, social support, and quality of life (QOL) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from October 2022 to May 2023. A sample of 330 hospitalized SLE patients was selected for this study. The collected data included demographic information, the SLE disease activity index, the Positive Mental Capital Questionnaire, the Chinese version of the Post-Traumatic Growth Scale, the Social Support Rating Scale, and the Chinese version of the Lupus Quality of Life Scale. RESULTS: The QOL score among the 330 SLE patients was measured as M(P25, P75) of 105 (83.00,124.00). Positive psychological capital, post-traumatic growth, and social support demonstrated significant positive correlations with the QOL in SLE patients (p < 0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that literacy, disease level, disease duration, occupation, marital status, psychological capital, social support, and post-traumatic growth were influential factors associated with the QOL in SLE patients. CONCLUSION: Medical professionals should be attentive to the psychological well-being of SLE patients and should consider implementing early psychological interventions. These interventions are crucial for enhancing the QOL for individuals diagnosed with SLE.

Breast cancer is among the most prevalent malignancies in women worldwide. Epidemiological findings suggested that periodontal diseases may be associated with breast cancer, among which Fusobacterium nucleatum is considered an important cross-participant. In this work, we comprehensively summarize the known mechanisms of how F. nucleatum translocates to, colonizes in mammary tumors, and promotes the carcinogenesis. Specifically, F. nucleatum translocates to mammary tissue through the mammary-intestinal axis, direct nipple contact, and hematogenous transmission. Subsequently, F. nucleatum takes advantage of fusobacterium autotransporter protein 2 to colonize breast cancer and uses virulence factors fusobacterium adhesin A and lipopolysaccharide to promote proliferation. Moreover, the upregulated matrix metalloproteinase-9 induced by F. nucleatum does not only trigger the inflammatory response but also facilitates the tumor-promoting microenvironment. Aside from the pro-inflammatory effect, F. nucleatum may also be engaged in tumor immune evasion, which is achieved through the action of virulence factors on immune checkpoint receptors highly expressed on T cells, natural killer cells, and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes. Taking breast cancer as an example, more relevant research studies may expand our current knowledge of how oral microbes affect systemic health. Hopefully, exploring these mechanisms in depth could provide new strategies for safer and more effective biologic and targeted therapies targeted at breast cancer.

The immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) greatly limits the actual outcome of immunotherapy. Therefore, it is urgent to develop appropriate strategies to reshape the TME and ultimately induce a strong immune response. Here, we developed a dual-functional liposome loaded with the photothermal agent IR808 near the infrared region (NIR) and Toll-like-receptor-7 (TLR7) agonist loxoribine prodrug (Lipo@IR808@Loxo) to achieve NIR light-triggered photothermal therapy (PTT) and the targeted delivery of immune adjuvants. Under NIR irradiation, Lipo@IR808@Loxo could greatly improve the efficiency of PTT to directly kill tumor cells and release tumor-associated antigens, which could work together with loaded loxoribine to relieve the immunosuppressive TME, effectively promoting the activation of antigen-presenting cells and subsequent antigen presentation. In this way, Lipo@IR808@Loxo could act as an in situ therapeutic cancer vaccine, eventually inducing a potent antitumor T-cell response. When further combined with immune checkpoint blockade, Lipo@IR808@Loxo-mediated photothermal immunotherapy could not only eliminate the primary tumors but also inhibit the growth of distant tumors, thus enhancing the abscopal effect.

Despite their immense therapeutic potential, cancer immunotherapies such as immune checkpoint blockers (ICBs) benefit only a small subset of patients. Toll-like receptor agonists reverse the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) to enhance antitumor immunity, but their systemic administration induces side effects. This work describes a TME-responsive nanotherapeutic platform for the site-specific release of drug candidates in tumors with a significant antitumor efficacy. Imidazoquinoline (IMQ)-derived liposomal nanovesicles (LN-IMQ) triggered the antitumor ability of macrophages, mobilized T-cell immunity, and promoted the secretion of antitumor cytokines, explaining the synergistic effect of LN-IMQ with ICBs. LN-IMQ monotherapy observed complete tumor regression in 6/8 of 4T1-bearing mouse, and cured mice resisted secondary tumor challenge. Besides, LN-IMQ decreased the occurrence of lung metastases, being effective against advanced metastases. On the other hand, neoantigen-based cancer vaccine has very low immune responses. Here, we also verified that LN-IMQ can serve as an ideal tumor antigen delivery vector. Cancer cells in vitro treated with chemotherapeutic drugs included multiple neoantigens and high levels of damage-associated molecular patterns, which were then successfully encapsulated in LN-IMQ to obtain a "personalized nanovaccine" with artificially amplified antigenicity and adjuvant properties. This study developed an attractive potential personalized nanovaccine for chemotherapeutic-drug-induced tumor neoantigens and immunotherapy.

With the rapid development of metagenomic high-throughput sequencing technology, more and more oral mucosal diseases have been proven to be associated with oral microbiota shifts or dysbiosis. The commensal oral microbiota can greatly influence the colonization and resistance of pathogenic microorganisms and induce primary immunity. Once dysbiosis occurs, it can lead to damage to oral mucosal epithelial defense, thus accelerating the pathological process. As common oral mucosal diseases, oral mucositis and ulcers seriously affect patients' prognosis and quality of life. However, from the microbiota perspective, the etiologies, specific alterations of oral flora, pathogenic changes, and therapy for microbiota are still lacking in a comprehensive overview. This review makes a retrospective summary of the above problems, dialectically based on oral microecology, to provide a new perspective on oral mucosal lesions management and aims at improving patients' quality of life.

Periodontal disease has been suggested to be linked to adverse pregnancy outcomes such as preterm birth, low birth weight, and preeclampsia. Adverse pregnancy outcomes are a significant public health issue with important clinical and societal repercussions. This article systematically reviews the available epidemiological studies involving the relationship between periodontal disease and adverse pregnancy outcomes over the past 15 years, and finds a weak but independent association between adverse pregnancy outcomes and periodontal disease. The bidirectional association and the potential mechanisms are then explored, focusing on three possible mechanisms: inflammatory reaction, oral microorganisms and immune response. Specifically, elevated systemic inflammation and increased periodontal pathogens with their toxic products, along with a relatively suppressed immune system may lead to the disruption of homeostasis within fetal-placental unit and thus induce adverse pregnancy outcomes. This review also explains the possible mechanisms around why women are more susceptible to periodontal disease. In conclusion, pregnant women are more likely to develop periodontal disease due to hormonal changes, and periodontal disease has also been suspected to increase the incidence of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Therefore, in order to lessen the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes, both obstetricians and dentists should pay attention to the development of periodontal diseases among women during pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: To retrospectively investigate the success rate of primary-molar pulpectomy performed under general anaesthesia and the potential risk factors that affect the 24-month success rate. METHODS: The case data and two-year follow-up records of children (aged 3-6 years) who received pulpectomy in primary molars performed under general anaesthesia were reviewed and assessed. Potential risk factors included age, gender, decayed-missing-filled teeth, endodontic diagnosis, tooth location, and postobturation sealing of the pulp chamber floor with MTA. With a two-year follow-up period, the outcomes of all the primary molars were classified into success and failure. Survival analysis was used to assess the outcomes. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to analyse the success rate. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to evaluate the potential risk factors associated with the overall survival of primary molars. RESULTS: A total of 410 teeth from 163 children (88 boys and 75 girls) were included in this study. The overall two-year success rate was 66.1% for all primary molars. The mean overall survival time for this study was 22.1 (95% CI, 21.73‒22.48) months. Multivariate Cox regression analysis demonstrated that endodontic diagnosis (irreversible pulpitis or periapical periodontitis), tooth location (maxillary or mandibular primary molar), and postobturation sealing of the pulp chamber floor (MTA or no-MTA) were significant risk factors for overall survival in this study (P < .05). The differences in success rates were not statistically significant in terms of age, gender, and decayed-missing-filled teeth (P > .05). CONCLUSIONS: When compared to teeth diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis, those with periapical periodontitis failed more frequently. Postobturation sealing of the pulp chamber floor with MTA improved the success rate of pulpectomy in primary molars, especially when the inflammation did not spread to the periradicular area.

Varieties of microorganisms reside in the oral cavity contributing to the occurrence and development of microbes associated with oral diseases; however, the distribution and in situ abundance in the biofilm are still unclear. In order to promote the understanding of the ecosystem of oral microbiota and the diagnosis of oral diseases, it is necessary to monitor and compare the oral microorganisms from different niches of the oral cavity in situ. The fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) has proven to be a powerful tool for representing the status of oral microorganisms in the oral cavity. FISH is one of the most routinely used cytochemical techniques for genetic detection, identification, and localization by a fluorescently labeled nucleic acid probe, which can hybridize with targeted nucleic acid sequences. It has the advantages of rapidity, safety, high sensitivity, and specificity. FISH allows the identification and quantification of different oral microorganisms simultaneously. It can also visualize microorganisms by combining with other molecular biology technologies to represent the distribution of each microbial community in the oral biofilm. In this review, we summarized and discussed the development of FISH technology and the application of FISH in oral disease diagnosis and oral ecosystem research, highlighted its advantages in oral microbiology, listed the existing problems, and provided suggestions for future development..

A type II polyketide synthase biosynthetic gene cluster (amd) containing three P450 genes was identified from a soil metagenomic library, and novel benz[h]isoquinoline-desferrioxamine B conjugated compound amodesmycins were isolated from Streptomyces albus J1074 harboring the amd gene cluster. Genetic evidence showed that the benz[h]isoquinoline part and desferrioxamine B part in amodesmycins were derived from the amd gene cluster and S. albus J1074, respectively, while P450 enzymes played critical roles in the conjunction of these two parts.

Astragalus variabilis is a locoweed of northwest China that can seriously impede livestock development. However, it also plays various ecological roles, such as wind protection and sand fixation. Here, we used an optimized MaxEnt model to predict the distribution of suitable habitat of A. variabilis under current (1970-2000) conditions and future (2021-2080) climate change scenarios based on recent occurrence records. The most important environmental variables (suitability ranges in parentheses) affecting the distribution of A. variabilis were average maximum temperature of February (-2.12-5.34°C), followed by total precipitation of June (2.06-37.33 mm), and topsoil organic carbon (0.36-0.69%). The habitat suitability of A. variabilis was significantly correlated with the frequency of livestock poisoning (p < 0.05). Under current climate conditions, the suitable environment of A. variabilis was distributed in central and western Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, central and northwestern Gansu, central and northwestern Qinghai, and the four basins around the Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang. Under future climate conditions, the suitable habitat of A. variabilis shifted to higher latitudes and altitudes. No previous studies have used niche models to predict the suitable environment of this species nor analyzed the relationship between the habitat suitability of poisonous plants and the frequency of animal poisoning. Our findings provide new insights that will aid the prevention of livestock animal poisoning and the control of poisonous plants, promote the development of the livestock husbandry industry, and provide basic information that will facilitate the maintenance of the ecological balance of grassland ecosystems.

Objective: To explore whether Fusobacterium nucleatum could lead to behavioral and pathological changes in Alzheimer's disease (AD)-like model rat and whether they could affect the gut microbiota. Methods: The cognitive ability and alveolar bone loss of Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were tested by Morris water maze and Micro-CT, respectively. HE staining and immunohistochemistry were used to analyze the pathological changes and Aß1-42 in brains. Western blot was applied to detect the expression of p-Tau 181 in the brain. Limulus amebocyte lysate assay and PCR were performed to determine serum LPS level and whether F. nucleatum accessed the brain, respectively. The gut microbiota was analyzed by the 16S rRNA gene sequence. Results: Oral infection with F. nucleatum could induce increased alveolar bone loss and learning impairment in AD-like rats. Additionally, F. nucleatum exposure increased the Aß1-42 expression by about one-fourth (P < 0.05), p-Tau181 by about one-third (P < 0.05), and serum LPS (P < 0.05) in AD-like rats. Moreover, F. nucleatum could change the gut microflora composition in AD-like rats, accompanied by a significant increase in the abundance of Streptococcus and Prevotella. Conclusion: Oral infection with F. nucleatum could contribute to abnormalities in cognitive ability and pathological change in the brain of AD-like rats, which may be related to abnormal gut microbiota composition.

AIMS: We induced the AD-like rat models injected by AlCl3 and D-galactose, to explore the effects of an oral treatment of A. muciniphila on AD-like rats with periodontitis and its possible mechanism. MAIN METHODS: We used Morris water maze test and micro-CT to assess the cognitive impairment and bone loss; Aß1-42 deposition was tested by IHC; Serum LPS level and TG, HDL-C and AST/ALT levels were detected by LAL Test and biochemical tests; The gut microbiota was analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequence. KEY FINDINGS: We found that A. muciniphila could alleviate AD-like rats' cognitive impairment and mitigate ligature-induced periodontitis. Furthermore, A. muciniphila reduced Aß1-42 deposition in the cortex and regions of the rats' brain, and altered TG, HDL-C and AST/ALT levels but had little ability to change circulating LPS level and cross the blood-brain barrier. Notably, A. muciniphila treatment could improve the abundance of some short chain fatty acid (SCFA)-producing or neurotransmitter-producing gut microbiome such as Blautia, Staphylococcus and Lactococcus, while the abundance of pathogenic Aerococcus and Streptococcus, which were associated inflammation, were decreased. SIGNIFICANCE: Our findings suggested that A. muciniphila has a remissive effect on AD-like pathologies, potentially by regulating gut-brain axis through altering composition and function of gut microbial community or moderating peripheral circulation metabolism.

BACKGROUND: Streptococcus pyogenes is an important global human pathogen that causes pharyngitis, and antibacterial therapy has become an important part of the overall therapy for pharyngitis. As natural derivatives, honey and green tea are often recommended for patients with pharyngitis in traditional Chinese medicine without experimental theoretical basis on wether the combined effect of honey and green tea on pharyngitis is better than they alone. The aims of this study were to explore the effects of artificial honey (AH) and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) on S. pyogenes and elucidate the possible mechanisms, which were investigated using MIC (the minimum inhibitory concentration), FIC (fractional inhibitory concentration) index, growth pattern, biofilm formation and RT-qPCR. RESULTS: The MIC of AH on S. pyogenes was 12.5% (v/v) and the MIC of EGCG was 1250 µg/ml. The FIC index of AH and EGCG was 0.5. The planktonic cell growth, growth pattern and biofilm formation assays showed that AH and EGCG mixture had stronger inhibitory effect on S. pyogenes than they alone. RT-qPCR confirmed that the expression of hasA and luxS gene were inhibited by AH and EGCG mixture. CONCLUSIONS: AH and EGCG mixture can inhibit the planktonic cell growth, biofilm formation and some virulence genes expression of S. pyogenes, better than they alone. The combination of honey and green tea have the potential to treat pharyngitis as natural derivatives, avoiding drug resistance and double infection.

The objective of this research was to investigate the application values of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of the deep learning-based image super-resolution reconstruction algorithm optimized convolutional neural network (OPCNN) algorithm in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) lesion diagnosis. A total of 54 patients with NPC were selected as research objects. Based on the traditional CNN structure, OPCNN was proposed. Besides, MRI processed by the traditional CNN model and the U-net network model was introduced to be analyzed and compared with its algorithm. The used assessment parameters included volume transfer constant (K trans), rate constant (K ep), volume fraction (V e), and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC). The results showed that the values of Dice coefficient, peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and structural similarity (SSIM) of the OPCNN algorithm were significantly higher than those of the traditional CNN model and the U-net network model. Meanwhile, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). K trans, K ep, and V e in tumor lesions were significantly higher than those in the healthy side, while the ADC was significantly lower than that in the healthy side (P < 0.05). The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of dynamic contrast-enhancement magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) in the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma staging were slightly higher than those in T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI). The diagnostic sensitivity of DCE-MRI was more than 85%, its diagnostic specificity was more than 75%, and its diagnostic accuracy was more than 90%. The AUC area of NPC diagnosed by combination of the three was significantly different from that diagnosed by single T2WI, DWI, and DCE-MRI (P < 0.05). The diagnostic accuracy of MRI based on the OPCNN algorithm for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (93.2%) was significantly higher than that of single MRI (76.4%). In summary, the OPCNN algorithm proposed in this study could improve the quality of MRI images, and the effect was better than the traditional deep learning model, which had the value of clinical promotion. The application value of DCE-MRI in the diagnosis of pathogenic lesions of nasopharyngeal carcinoma was better than conventional MRI. The combined application of T2WI, DWI, and DCE-MRI in the screening of nasopharyngeal carcinoma lesions could greatly improve the diagnostic accuracy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

AIMS: The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of hop extracts with diverse ß-acid concentrations on Streptococcus mutans biofilm formation. METHODS AND RESULTS: Ten different hop extracts, with α-acid concentrations similar to those found in commercial beer products and ß-acid concentrations ranging from 2.6 to 8.1%, were added to distilled water to make standardized concentrations. S. mutans isolates were treated with hop extract dilutions varying from 1:2 to 1:256. The minimum inhibitory, minimum bactericidal and minimum biofilm inhibitory concentrations were determined and the optical density was evaluated. Live/dead staining confirmed the bactericidal effects. Biofilm formation of several strains of S. mutans was significantly inhibited by hop extract dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, 1:16 and 1:32. Strong negative correlations were observed between α- and ß-acid concentrations of the hop extracts and S. mutans total growth and biofilm formation. CONCLUSIONS: The use of hop extracts prepared similarly to commercial beer decreased S. mutans biofilm formation. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The inclusion of hops in the commercial beer products may provide beneficial health effects. Further studies are warranted to determine an effect in vivo on the development of dental caries.

RESUMO

Functional nanomaterials have been widely used in biomedical fields due to their good biocompatibility, excellent physicochemical properties, easy surface modification, and easy regulation of size and morphology. Functional nanomaterials for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can target specific sites in vivo and more easily detect disease-related specific biomarkers at the molecular and cellular levels than traditional contrast agents, achieving a broad application prospect in MRI. This review focuses on the basic principles of MRI, the classification, synthesis and surface modification methods of contrast agents, and their clinical applications to provide guidance for designing novel contrast agents and optimizing the contrast effect. Furthermore, the latest biomedical advances of functional nanomaterials in medical diagnosis and disease detection, disease treatment, the combination of diagnosis and treatment (theranostics), multi-model imaging and nanozyme are also summarized and discussed. Finally, the bright application prospects of functional nanomaterials in biomedicine are emphasized and the urgent need to achieve significant breakthroughs in the industrial transformation and the clinical translation is proposed. Microbial dysbiosis in dental plaque contributes to the occurrence of dental caries, to which Streptococcus mutans is a major contributor. Lactobacillus casei can be used as probiotic therapy to treat caries by replacing S. mutans within the dental plaque. However, the effects of probiotic treatment are not always stable. Oxyresveratrol (ORV), a plant-derived polyphenol, displays opposite effects in that it inhibits cariogenic and promotes commensal bacteria. Thus, the objectives of this study are to investigate the effects of ORV on bacterial proportions in S. mutans-L. casei biofilm and to elucidate how ORV weakens the competitiveness of S. mutans. Quantitative real-time PCR confirms a decreased S. mutans-L. casei ratio in dual-species biofilm by action of ORV. The culture supernatant of L. casei after being incubated with ORV (ORVLC) is prepared to explore the joint action of ORV and L. casei. ORVLC displays the strongest anti-biofilm effect against S. mutans when compared with the effects of L. casei supernatant or ORV alone. As a result of this treatment, both exopolysaccharides and bacteria contents in the biofilm are greatly reduced. The biofilm is transformed from water-insoluble glucan-dominant to water-soluble glucan-dominant by ORVLC through the modulation of the glycometabolism-related genes of S. mutans. As for the interactions between ORV and L. casei, ORV promotes L. casei to produce acetic acid, which provides L. casei with a competitive advantage against S. mutans. Taken together, ORV may be very suitable as an adjuvant medicine for probiotic therapy in the control of dental caries. IMPORTANCE The homeostatic imbalance in dental plaque associated with a sharp increase in the number of cariogenic bacteria such as Streptococcus mutans is critical for the occurrence and development of caries. Probiotic therapy can restore ecological balance by replacing cariogenic pathogens with probiotics. The current study innovatively finds that oxyresveratrol, a natural polyphenol, can provide probiotic Lactobacillus casei with competitive dominance in its dual-species biofilm with S. mutans. The joint action of oxyresveratrol and L. casei strongly inhibits the biofilm formation of S. mutans. Additionally, oxyresveratrol promotes L. casei to produce acetic acid, which facilitates L. casei to compete with S. mutans. Through the effects of these two mechanisms, oxyresveratrol leads to a significantly decreased S. mutans-L. casei ratio in their dual-species biofilm. Thus, oxyresveratrol is speculated to be an ideal medicine for the prevention and treatment of caries by regulating oral flora balance.

@#Berberine is a natural isoquinoline alkaloid extracted from Rhizoma Coptidis and other Chinese herbal medicines. Since berberine has a variety of biological effects, such as bacteriostasis, anti-inflammatory, anti-bone resorption and blood sugar-lowering effects, and is associated with few side effects, studies are increasingly discovering its potential application in the prevention and treatment of periodontitis. This review summarizes the relevant research progress of berberine in the prevention and treatment of periodontitis in recent years, aiming to provide a new strategy for the clinical prevention and treatment of periodontitis. The results of the literature review showed that berberine could prevent the occurrence and development of periodontitis by inhibiting periodontal pathogens, reducing periodontal tissue inflammation and inhibiting alveolar bone resorption. However, the mechanism of periodontitis is complicated, and current research remains limited. In the future, more in vivo and in vitro studies are needed to further explore the mechanism of berberine in inhibiting the occurrence and development of periodontitis, and more large-sample prospective clinical studies should be conducted to confirm the effect of berberine on the prevention and treatment of periodontitis.

Objective @#To explore the effect on children's occlusion and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) after placement of preformed metal crowns and provide a reference for the restoration of defective primary molars. @*Methods @#A total of 39 children who underwent all primary molar metal crown restorations under general anesthesia were enrolled. The participants underwent occlusal contact area, percentage of total occlusal force, asymmetric ratio of occlusal force and occlusal contact time examinations with the T-scan computerized occlusal analysis system. Vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) was measured using a dental vertical dimension gauge. TMJ dysfunction signs were recorded using the modified clinical dysfunction index (Di), and TMJ dysfunction symptoms were recorded using questionnaires. All data were collected at pretreatment, 1-week, 1-month, 3-month, and 6-month follow-up visits. @*Results@#The occlusal contact area at the 3-month and 6-month follow-up visits returned to the occlusal contact area of pretreatment, and the difference was statistically significant (P>0.05). Compared with pretreatment, the percentage of total occlusal force at the 3-month and 6-month follow-up visits increased significantly, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The asymmetric ratio of occlusal force and the occlusal contact time were significantly decreased at the 6-month follow-up visit (P<0.05). The vertical dimension of occlusion recovered after one month of treatment (P>0.05). The final statistical analysis of the TMJ assessment showed that there was no significant difference in the clinical disorder index and TMJ dysfunction symptoms before and after treatment (P>0.05). @*Conclusions @# After undergoing all primary molar metal crown restorations, occlusal re-equilibrations were attained after approximately one month. The percentage of total occlusal force and occlusal stability were significantly increased after six months of treatment, without significant temporomandibular joint dysfunction.
