RESUMO
This report presents an analytical method for generating fragility curves and corresponding damage probability matrix for structures subject to earthquakes. In the proposed method, seismic hazards, local soil conditions, and nonlinear building behavior are systematically considered, and all the uncertainties in seismic, site, and structural parameters are taken into account. For an illustration, the proposed method is used to generate fragility curves and damage probability matrix for Smith Hall on the main campus of the University of Memphis, which is located close to the New Madrid seismic zone. The expected damage cost is also estimated based on the 1993 replacement value of the building.(AU)

The study was undertaken to determine the effect of an oil spill. which might be caused by a seismic event rupturing a crude oil line which crosses the recharge area of the Memphis Sands Aquifer. To do this, two numerical models were used to simulated a potential rupture to the 40 inch crude oil pipeline located in Wolf River fluvial valley susceptible to liquefaction. The spilled crude oil could have detrimental effects on the ground water quality, especially impacting Memphis Sands Aquifer.(AU)

Memphis and Shelby County, Tennessee, are close to the southwestern segment of the New Madrid seismic zone, the most hazardous seismic zone in the central and eastern United States. The groung shaking in Memphis and shelby County postulate for a scenario earthquake of moment magnitude 7.5 at Market Tree, Arkansas, has been evaluated to prepare seismic hazard maps of Memphis and Shelby County (AU)

The post - earthquake restoration of a seismically damaged water delivery system is one of the critical issues for cities that face significant seismic hazards. In this paper, we present an approach for optimum temporary restoration of a seismically damaged water delivery system. First, a short route network is established by determining the shortest route from each demand node to the nearest supply node. The links not include in the short - route network and included from temporary repairing. (AU)

In this paper, we present the results of a rapid evaluation of seismic hazards at the site of Memphis State University (MSU) and seismic vulnerability of the buildings on the main campus, estimation of seismic hazards was based on the results obtained from our previous studies sponsored by the National Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (AU)
