Analysis of the course of pregnancy and labor in 50 students has revealed that half of these women suffered from gestoses and threatened abortions and more than half of them developed labor complications. These values were significantly lower in the reference group of age-matched women.

PIP: Approaches to prenatal care in teenage girls and young women who have the greatest risk of complicated pregnancy are reviewed. Follow-up of young Ukrainian women indicated that the majority get married between the ages of 20-24 years old, 95% of women get pregnant within the first 5 years (64% have 1 pregnancy, 18.5% have 2 pregnancies, and 12.5% have 3 pregnancies). During 1 year of marriage, a woman has 1.4 abortions, and 32% have repeated abortions. The incidence of labor complications in young (17-19 years old) primiparous women who had a history of induced abortion is 2.8 times greater than that in controls. Duration of labor is increased to 14 hours, compared with 11 hours in controls. Induced abortion accounts for 20-50% of maternal mortality. Delayed prenatal care was observed in 71.9% of 15-17 years old pregnant women, 55.8% of 18 years old pregnant women, and in 37.9% of 19-20 years old pregnant women. The incidence of premature babies in these age groups was 95.2% 52%, and 47.8%, respectively. An overall maternal mortality ranges from 3.5 to 8.3/10,000 deliveries, compared with 16 in women younger than 20 years old.^ieng

[The effect of graded physical loading on the adaptive-compensatory potentials in a high-risk group of pregnant women]. / Vliianie dozirovannykh fizicheskikh nagruzok na adaptatsionno-kompensatornye vozmozhnosti beremennykh zhenshchin gruppy povyshennogo riska.

The study was conducted of combined application of conventional regimens of therapeutic exercises and adjusted bicycle ergometry loads (60-75% of the oxygen utilization maximum) in high-risk pregnant women suffering from chronic respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases. It was found that adaptation of the women was improved as well as maternal and fetal complications prevented due to neuroendocrine regulation recovery and larger reserve of cardiorespiratory system.

Practical work of the 4th-year medical students is aimed at strengthening the knowledge acquired by them at medical and theoretical chairs, further extension and improvement of practical skills, acquaintance with the organization of curative work, physicians' labour conditions at the regional and country level, principles of public health organization and antiepidemic activity.
