RESUMO

The paper reviews the actual therapeutical means in a severe invalid eye disease. The treatment is not able to improve the retinal blood flow, being more effective on the main symptoms and complications. The isovolumetric hemodilution method as an up-to-date method in the treatment of central retinal vein occlusion, appears to bring better recuperation hopes, by a higher improvement of the local anatomical and hemodynamical factors. That is the reason why we shall expose it widely in our paper. Unfortunately, despite its complexity, the treatment of central retinal vein occlusion is not satisfactory from the point of view of the high number of patients that remain with a low visual acuity. The main goal of the therapy is the recovery of visual function, but a few aspects and especially the late presentation for ophthalmological examination, reduce the objective of treatment to prevent complications.

RESUMO

Juvenile glaucoma is an uncommon form of chronic open angle glaucoma that appears between 3 and 35 years of age. We reports in this study four cases; one of them had unilateral visual acuity reduced. The intraocular pressure is above to 30 mm Hg, and a myopia was associated to two cases. The insidious development of this pathology and the difficulty of its diagnosis among young people, often result in severe clinical manifestations, with high visual field defects, and important optic disc cuppings.

RESUMO

The ocular hypertonia is a frequent complication of ocular trauma. It may be precocious, if it appears immediately after or within a few days since the trauma, or it may appear slowly in the following weeks or months. The choose of the therapy is made after the physiopathogenic mechanisms. The urge of the surgical intervention is difficult to be established. In all cases the supervision of the ocular tonus in time is recommended.

RESUMO

The virus simplex herpes (VSH) differs from other viruses in that it frequently affects the eyes and because of the gravity of lesions. It belongs to the herpes-virus family which also includes the varicella virus, the cytomegalovirus, zone and the Epstein-Barr virus. The main feature consists of the fact that after the first infection in latent form, the virus remains inside the body and may cause recidives. The type I determines oculofacial lesions. While the type II determines genital lesions. Seldom it may affects the eye in a severe form. In fact there is inside every type a great antigenic variability, with many intermediate forms. The antiviral drugs from the 1 generation, like IDU (iodoxuridine), IDC (iododezoxiuridine), vidarabine and TFT (trifluoro-thymidine) are rather toxic because of the lack in their action selectivity. The antiviral drugs from the second generation, like the acyclovir, have a more selective action. The corticotherapy, locally administrated, is useful in the immunopathological lesions in the recidivated profound forms. The corticotherapy must be reduced at the minimal doses, which should be taken before an antiviral prophylactic chemotherapy.

RESUMO

The paper presents the efficiency of the Raverdino operatorial technique, which creates a large anastomosis between the lacrimal sac and nose, followed by an effective drainage in those cases with persistent obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct. The paper also exposes clinical cases in which the mentioned technique was used as first intervention or as reintervention after an inefficient dacryocystorhinostomy. The Raverdino technique offers a successful, long lasting result, without major intra- or postoperative complications.

RESUMO

The observation of a 19-year-old patient with blue sclera, hypoacusis and osteofragility (with 13 previous fractures) is presented. In the same family there are other members belonging three generation, with manifestations specific to Lobstein osteopsathyrosis. In the case presented, the heredity was of dominant autosomal type with variable expressivity.

RESUMO

The observation of a 17-year-old teenager with progeria, ventricular septal shortcoming with wide anterolateral [correction of arteriolateral] myocardial ischemia. From an ocular point of view, he shows senescence with senile ectropion, evolutive cataract, retinal angiosclerosis. The role of the manifestation of ocular senescence in Hutchinson-Gilford Syndrome is emphasized.

RESUMO

An overview of the necessary steps in making the surgical decisions in open angle glaucoma is presented. A surgical decision must consider the ocular hypertonia, the inefficacy of the medical treatment; the clinical stage of the ocular disease and general condition of the patient.

RESUMO

The exam of 33 children with AIDS revealed in 10 cases manifestations of the anterior pole and of ocular anexes specific to this infection. In 8 cases we noticed seborrheic dermatitis, exudative dermatitis. Molluscum contagiosum, staphilococies, papoulous eruptions . In 3 cases there were herpetic infections, one of them was corneal localized. In one case was Burkitt lymphoma with palpebral exteriorization. The fundus exam revealed retinal microvasculopathies with aneurysmal dilatations in cases and retinal hemorrhages in 3 cases. The discrete found in 8 cases, in 2 cases was bilateral papillary and papilloretinal edema was papillary stasis. In 8 cases was partial optical atrophia and in one case we noticed tapetoretinal degenerescente. The aid of the ophthalmologist in the thorough examination of children having AIDS was important, in spite of the unspecific nature of the noticed lesions.

RESUMO

The paper refers to the efficiency of reinterventions on eyes with glaucoma already operated but in which the drainage surgery has become inefficient in time. The reintervention consists of going through the access paths obtained at the first intervention, cauterizing the scleral vessels adjacent to the protection volet and making the cyclodialysis. The results are lasting until now, the intervention is simple and rational, without special intra- or post-operatorial complications.

RESUMO

The paper focuses on the possibility of turning up, to a patient suffering of acne during a long treatment using tetracycline, of some alarming neurological modifications accompanied at the eye fundus examination by stasis papillar oedema. The interruption of treatment leads to the disappearance of the whole set of clinical phenomena and modifications of depicted ocular symptoms.

RESUMO

Two patients with brachymorphy, mother and son, were admitted into the Hospital of Constanta, in 1965. The child underwent several surgeries on the ectopic, spheric crystalline lens. The patients were followed in time and their present states are reported. Considerations are made on the evolution of surgical techniques in the crystalline ectopia and the present opinions about this problem.

RESUMO

The paper reports on the functional results in the surgery of the glaucoma-aphakia pathologic relation, in a group of 30 patients: several very good, others moderate with uncertain visual prognosis, as a function of the precocity of the operation, blockage site and stage of the disease evolution. The good results obtained in the surgeries of the cases without the presence of the vitreous body in AC are evidenced.
