Hemoperfusion with local heparin before and protamine after the column was used in the treatment of patients with grave craniocerebral injury. Effect of such treatment on the cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP) is analyzed. The treatment did not increase the liquor pressure but decreased it by 20-25 mm H2O in both groups of patients. CPP in the survivors improved and normalized. In the other group (dead patients) CPP did not change, despite a decrease of the liquor pressure, and remained high. These values can be prognostically important.

[Hemosorption in the complex of intensive therapy of poisoning in young children]. / Gemosorbtsiia v komplekse intensivnoi terapii detei rannego vozrasta pri otravleniiakh.

79 hemosorption procedures performed by pendulum technique in 32 children aged 11 months to 3 years are reviewed. Hemosorption as a component of complex intensive therapy was indicated in case of severe patients' condition, inefficacy of therapy, inefficacy and impossibility of forced diuresis and an elevated level of medium molecules up to 0.475 +/- 0.014 conventional units.

[Transport of carbon dioxide in membrane oxygenators]. / Transport uglekislogo gaza v membrannykh oksigenatorakh.

A study has been made of the process of removing carbon dioxide from blood in the MOST-type membrane oxygenators. An expression was obtained for the carbon dioxide flow near the diffusional border layer and its change in the blood with regard to the permeability of the membrane used, the value of the blood flow rate, the value of the geometric parameters of the oxygenator, and the blood parameters. The value of the rated by carbon dioxide volumetric capacity of the blood has been calculated. The results of the numerical analysis of the input equations of the carbon dioxide transport are compared to the experimental data obtained from the medico-biologic testing of the oxygenators.

[The use of UV irradiated autoblood for the prevention and treatment of pulmonary complications after operations on organs of the abdominal cavity]. / Primenenie UFO sutokrovi dlia profilaktiki i lecheniia legochnykh oslozhnenii posle operatisii na organakh briushnoi polosti.

The authors have made an analysis of incidence of postoperative pneumonias in 285 patients aged from 60 to 83 after operation on the abdominal organs. The use of reinfusion of the UV irradiated blood in the complex of prophylactic measures for prevention of postoperative pneumonias resulted in 2 times less amount of such complications.

[Use of UV autologous blood irradiation for preventing the occurrence of tracheobronchitis during tracheostomy]. / Primenenie UFO autokrovi dlia profilaktiki vozniknoveniia trakheobronkhitov pri trakheostomii.

The authors made an analysis of incidence of tracheobronchitis in patients with tracheostomy. It was established that tracheobronchitis followed 15 of 57 tracheostomies. The use of UV autologous blood irradiation in 17 patients with tracheostomy gave only one case of tracheobronchitis while in 40 operated patients without the procedure there were 14 cases of the complication. Thus, the authors believe that the administration of UV autologous blood irradiation in tracheostomy gives 6 times less incidence of tracheobronchitis in the patients, the method being of value in prevention of the complications.

[Oxygen transport in membrane oxygenators]. / Transport kisloroda v membrannkh oksigenatorakh.

Mass transfer properties of the Soviet membrane oxygenator, MOCT, are tested. The liquid chambers of the oxygenator are made of disk membranes separating the moving blood from gas chambers. Processes of transportation and saturation of the blood film with oxygen are described by the simultaneous solution of the hydrodynamic and diffusion problem that is complicated by the chemical reaction. To derive approximate analytical solution the concept of a spreading front separating the area of the saturated blood layer from the venous area is applied. The expression for the thickness of the saturated layer and the oxygen flow to the blood is deduced as a function of the following parameters: membrane permeability, blood output, hemoglobin concentration, etc. The analytical solution is found to be satisfactory in describing experimental data obtained in the course of laboratory, clinical and biomedical tests.

[Relation between the development of thrombophlebitis of the subclavian vein and the side of catheterization]. / Zavisimost' vozniknoveniia tromboflebita podkliuchichnoi veny ot storony kateterizatsii.

Under study was the development of thrombophlebitis of the subclavian vein after its catheterization in 2435 patients. The complication was shown to appear in 1,5% of all the manipulations. Thrombophlebitis of the right subclavian vein was found to develop four times more often than that of the left one. It is accounted for by differences in the anatomical structure of the right and left subclavian veins.
