RESUMO
A new kaurenoid, ent-3 beta,7 alpha,14 beta-trihydroxykaur-16-ene-12,15-dione (1), named pseurata G, was isolated from the ethanol extract of the whole plant of Rabdosia pseudo-irrorata.

The stems of Hedychium villosum yielded the new diterpenoid 1, named villosin, along with coronarin E and beta-sitosterol. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including mono- and bi-dimensional NMR.

A water-soluble polysaccharide, isolated from the seeds of dates, has been investigated using methylation, periodate and CrO(3) oxidation, NMR spectroscopy, and reaction with Bandeiraea simplicifolia lectin and alpha-D-galactosidase. The polysaccharide consists of a backbone composed of (1-->4)-beta-D-mannopyranosyl residues and carries a single (1-->6)-alpha-linked D-galactopyranosyl residue.

Polysaccharides extracted from seeds of Libyan dates with hot ethanol 80% (FI) and 0.1 M phosphate solution (FII) were fractionated and purified by ion-exchange and gel-filtration chromatography. According to methylation and hydrolysis analysis, the main chains of FI and FII consisted of (1-->4)-linked glucomannan; only traces of branched sugar residues were detected. This is the first report on the isolation of glucomannan from date seeds.
