RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The use of self-analgesics among women for dysmenorrhoea is common. Non-pharmacological methods can be employed to effectively cope with dysmenorrhoea. Psychoeducation based on Leventhal's Self-Regulation Model (SRM) is an affordable, easy, and non-pharmacological way that clinics can use to cope with dysmenorrhoea. METHOD: This study aimed to investigate how psychoeducation affected dysmenorrhoea for nursing students using SRM. The sample consisted of 66 female students suffering from moderate-to-severe menstrual pain. A three-session psychoeducation based on SRM was applied to the intervention group. An 'Introductory Information Form', 'Visual Analogue Scale', 'Functional and Emotional Measure of Dysmenorrhoea (FEMD)', and 'Menstrual Symptom Questionnaire (MSQ)' were used to collect the data. All the measurements were carried out over three consecutive menstrual cycles. RESULTS: A generalised linear model was used to analyse the data. After receiving psychoeducation, the pain and functional and emotional symptoms of dysmenorrhoea mean scores significantly decreased in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < .05), whereas there was no significant difference between the groups' MSQ mean scores (p > .05). CONCLUSION: The psychoeducation reduced the severity of dysmenorrhoea pain and the functional and emotional impact levels of dysmenorrhoea and it was proved to be effective at helping the subjects cope with pain in the long term.

RESUMO

This study was aimed to determine the effects of the pandemic on life. This is a qualitative descriptive study and data were collected through semi-structured interviews (n = 200). The data were obtained by retrospectively examining the interviews made by the students between January and May 2021. The researchers prepared 'Participant Information Form' and 'Semi-Structured Interview Form', which were utilised as data collection tools during the interviews. The qualitative data acquired from the semi-structured interview using descriptive analysis. In the interviews, nursing students are in the role of interviewers. Participants were determined from among the relatives of the students. The research was structured and reported in accordance with the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research Checklist. The data acquired regarding the effects of the pandemic on life were conceptualised under three themes (nine sub-themes): the meaning of the pandemic(1), the effects of the pandemic on life(2), and coping with the pandemic(3). The study revealed that the pandemic included individual meanings at levels of emotions (fear, hopelessness, loneliness, despair, and uncertainty) and cognition - behaviour (danger, attention-caution, restriction and awareness).Pandemic resulted in changes in the life routines of the participants, changes in mental and social spheres, and various effects as the effect of the disease such as pain.Spiritual approaches (prayer and positive thinking), as well as social support and healthy lifestyle habits, were the methods used to cope with the pandemic. It is recommended that psychiatric nurses plan and implement individual/social interventions based on a psychosocial approach in order to cope with the short and long-term effects of the pandemic. RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aims to determine the factors that influence food addiction (FA) in female nursing students. DESIGN AND METHODS: Twenty-four out of 51 (mean age = 19.8 ± 1.36) women were identified from a sample of 645, who met the diagnostic criteria of FA using the Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS), and participated in this qualitative study. FINDINGS: Results of the study revealed that the factors affecting FA in students were conceptualized under four themes: "Social circle," "Situational and emotional signs," "Cognitive process," and "Weight gain and quality of life." PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: It is recommended to offer specific intervention programs including personal or group counseling for those, recognized as having FA based on an addiction model, and to have a successful therapy.

RESUMO

The present study aims to examine the relationship between urban vitality, healthy environment and density through the city of Istanbul, which is going through the Covid-19 outbreak. In this context, an online survey was conducted to measure the assessments of the residents living in districts with different density categories regarding the neighborhoods and the city they live in. The evaluations made by the citizens in the dimensions of vitality, mobility, safety, healthiness, cleanliness, orderliness were reduced to two main factors as "urban vitality" and "healthy environment" using Principal Components Analysis. Then, the evaluations regarding these six variables and two factors were subjected to cross-inquiries with the personal, residential and district characteristics. Urban residents were also asked to evaluate the city life before and after the Covid-19 outbreak. The main findings of the study reveal that there is a statistically significant difference between the density levels of the districts in terms of the perception of urban vitality and some sub-variables of healthy environment. Also, there is an observed change in the thoughts about urban life in Istanbul due to the outbreak.
