Addressing knowledge gaps in allergies among Syrian hospital patients: a cross-sectional study.

Allergies have a significant impact on health and quality of life worldwide, yet there is limited research on the awareness and knowledge of allergies. This study aimed to explore the level of awareness and knowledge of allergies among visitors in Syrian hospitals. A cross-sectional study was conducted between May and September 2022, and a standardized international questionnaire was administered to 504 visitors in three hospitals in Syria. Data analysis was performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) version 23. The final sample comprised 504 questionnaires with 61.7% of participants achieving an average score. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference in knowledge of allergy scores between the group with only elementary education (M = 3.76, SD = 1.67, p = 0.011), the group with no education (M = 3.65, SD = 1.65, p = 0.006), and the group with a university education (M = 4.44, SD = 1.25). Notably, no significant differences were found between the other educational groups. A one-way ANOVA was employed to assess the effect of place of living on knowledge of allergy, but no significant differences were observed between the groups (p = 0.462). Lastly, a significant negative correlation was detected between participant age and knowledge of allergy scores (r(502) = - 0.102, p = 0.022). Allergies represent a substantial global health concern that demands attention from healthcare providers, policymakers, and the public. This study emphasizes the importance of investing in health education and awareness campaigns to enhance knowledge and comprehension of allergies, particularly individuals with lower levels of education levels. By equipping individuals with the requisite information to effectively manage their allergies, their overall health and wellbeing can be improved.

Genetic Detection of Amoebic Meningoencephalitis Causing by Naegleria Fowleri in Iraq: A Case Report.

We diagnosed a case report of amoebic meningoencephalitis by Naegleria fowleri. This case represented the first recording in Iraq where it was not recording previously. This case was diagnosed after the death of an 18-year-old girl patient who lived in a rural area of Mosul in Iraq. Genetics detection of N. fowleri showed PCR product was 183bp for 18S rRNA gene. It was registered as the first recording of Iraqi isolate N. fowleri in GenBank with accession number OP380864.1. It is necessary to examine microscopically the cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) to observe the amoeba stages and exclude the bacterial causative. Rapid diagnosis may help in the treatment of amoebic meningoencephalitis. In addition, genetic identification can diagnose amoeba. Avoiding swimming or using freshwater contributes to prevent amoebic meningoencephalitis infection.

The role of multidetector CT scan in the management of prosthetic aortic valve thrombosis: A case report.

Key Clinical Message: In this case report, the utility of MDCT in elucidating the pathophysiology and etiology of prosthetic aortic valve dysfunction allowed us to distinguish thrombosis from pannus as an etiology of prosthetic valve dysfunction. MDCT also guided the success of therapy. Abstract: The diagnosis and management of prosthetic aortic valve thrombosis (PAVT) is challenging. The accurate diagnosis of this entity and its prompt management is vital to improving the prognosis of PAVT patients. Multidetector CT plays a central role in this effort. We present a case of PAVT in which the use of MDCT was useful in guiding management.

Malignant epidural spinal cord compression secondary to testicular cancer (mixed choriocarcinoma and seminoma) in the immediate post radical orchidectomy period.

Acute spinal cord compression in the immediate postoperative period from a possible choriocarcinoma syndrome (CCS) on hemorrhagic epidural spinal metastasis has never been described before and needs to be promptly recognized and managed. A low hemoglobin associated with choriocarcinoma should raise suspicion of this syndrome.

Osteoarthritis of knees and obesity in Eastern Saudi Arabia.

OBJECTIVE: To find out the prevalence and relation between osteoarthritis of knees and obesity in Al-Ahsa region, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). METHODS: The study included 243 male and female patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis of knees between June 2001 to March 2003. All patients were recruited from the Physical Therapy Department, King Fahd Hofuf Hospital, Hofuf, KSA. The clinical diagnosis was supported by plain x-rays of knees, and of other joint if needed. The weight and height of all patients were taken using one standard weight and height scale, and body mass index was also calculated and recorded. RESULTS: More than 90.53% of the patients referred with osteoarthritis of the knees were obese or overweight. The mean body weight of all patients was 84.61 kg and the mean height was 1.59 meters. Osteoarthritis of the knees was more common in obese female than male patients with a female to male ratio of 2.37:1. CONCLUSION: Obesity is a disease. The aim of all health professionals and others in the community should be directed to the prevention of this disease and its risk to develop multiple complications.
