RESUMO

Background: Working as a child can have various effects on all aspects of children's health. Investigating and identifying issues related to the health of working children can be useful in promoting their health. Therefore, in this qualitative study, we examined issues related to the mental health and behavior of working children. Materials and Methods: This qualitative study was conducted in Tehran, Iran, in 2021 with the contractual content analysis approach. The main participants (N = 32) in this study were working children aged 10 to 18 years. To collect data, in-depth and semi-structured interviews were conducted with working children, their parents, and the center officials. In addition to the interview, some field notes were also taken from interactions between working children. After each interview, they were transcribed and coded. After 27 interviews, the data were saturated, no new code was extracted, and further interviews were conducted to ensure data saturation. Data analysis was performed based on the proposed method of Lundman and Graneheim. Results: The results revealed the three main categories of mental distress (fear and anxiety, depression, loneliness and isolation, decreased self-confidence, and decentralized mind), social anger (negative social role modeling, harassment and harm of others, reprehensible and antisocial behavior, disregard for the property of others, disrupted relationships, and violence), and in-group commitment (self-censorship outside the group, individual independence and group cohesion, and caring for the group). Conclusions: Most working children suffer from various forms of mental and behavioral issues, which, if not taken care of, can have irreparable consequences.

RESUMO

AIM: The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of blindness simulation among a group of nursing students. DESIGN: This qualitative study was conducted using an interpretive phenomenological method. METHODS: Using purposeful sampling method, students were informed and invited to participate in the research through the Website of Tehran School of Nursing and Midwifery. We listed the candidates and until data saturation and compilation of the study, 8 students entered the study. They shared their experiences about blindness simulation through individual in-depth and semi-structured interviews. We continued the interviews until the data were saturated. The transcribed interviews were analysed by Colaizzi's approach. RESULTS: The results of data analysis resulted in three major themes and nine sub-themes, which were conceptually named based on their nature. The major themes included abandoned in the labyrinth puzzle, vision of heart and self-alienation.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Study habits have been the most important predictor of academic performance and play a special role in the academic achievement of students. The aim of this study was to investigate the status of study habits and its relationship with academic achievement in medical sciences students in Kermanshah-Iran. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study was carried out on 380 medical sciences students at Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences. The samples were randomly assigned to the study. The Palsane and Sharma study Habit Inventory was the tool used for data collection. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics. RESULTS: The mean of students' grade point average was 15.73±1.5 out of 20 and the mean of total status of study habits was 45.70±11.36 out of 90. The status of study habits in 81.3% of the students was at moderate level. There was a direct and significant relationship between study habits and academic achievement. CONCLUSION: The status of study habits was at moderate level for most students. Therefore, it is recommended to consider and assess students' study habits at the time of entry into university, in addition, specific training should be offered to students in order to help them learn or modify study habits to increase their academic achievements.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Professional ethics is one of the important topics, which includes various rights such as respecting the patient's right to choose (autonomy), being useful (beneficence), being harmless (non- maleficence), and respecting the justice, integrity, and confidentiality of information. Adherence to these principles can increase the quality of care and patient satisfaction. Since determining the current attitude of students towards ethics plays an important role in educational programs, this study was conducted to evaluate the attitude of nursing and midwifery students of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences towards six principles of professional ethics. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 76 undergraduate nursing and midwifery students (who were at the final years of their study) were selected to participate in this study by census method. The data collection tool was a valid and reliable questionnaire on the principles of medical ethics. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. RESULTS: The study sample consisted of 49 (64.5%) nursing and 27 (35.5%) midwifery students with an average age of 23 ± 1.4 years. The mean score of nursing and midwifery students' attitude towards medical ethics was 95.01 ± 4.8 in basis of 100, and was 94.56 ± 4.9 for nursing students and 96.04 ± 4.7 for midwifery students. Majority of the samples (96.26%) had positive attitude towards medical ethics and 3.73% had a relatively positive attitude. No statistically significant relationship was found between the attitude of students and variables of gender (t = - 0.27, p = 0.78), field of study (t = - 1.3, p = 0.99), marital status (t = - 1.378, p = 0.178), and age (F = 1.606, p = 0.2). CONCLUSION: All students in this study had a positive attitude towards the principles of medical ethics, and this is a valuable asset for clinical environments. To increase the generalizability of the study, further studies with bigger sample size on the students of various disciplines of medical sciences is recommended.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Caregivers of hemodialysis patients endure a significant caring pressure as a result of caring for patients with chronic illness, which can affect their quality of life. Disruptions in the quality of life of these caregivers impose double pressure on them and disrupt the care process. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the level of care burden and its relationship with quality of life of caregivers of hemodialysis patients. METHODS: In this descriptive-analytical study, 246 caregivers of hemodialysis patients were enrolled by census method, so that, all patients and caregivers who attended the study environment at morning, evening and night participated in the study. The study tool was a three-part questionnaire, which included personal information, Novak & Guest Care burden Questionnaire, and WHOQOL-BREF Quality of Life Questionnaire. Data were analyzed by descriptive, statistical and inferential tests. RESULTS: In total, 37.4% of caregivers were experiencing high and very high levels of care burden and 42.7% of them were experiencing a moderate level of care burden. The mean and standard deviation of the quality of life of caregivers was 76.27 ± 13.67 out of 130. There was a significant and negative correlation between the total scores of care burden and quality of life (r = - 0. 436, P < 0.001). The factors influencing care burden included variables such as; level of patient's caring capability, the patient's incidence of other chronic diseases, and the age of the caregiver. So that, in case of reduced patient's capability in self-care, the patient's incidence of other chronic diseases, and the increased age of the caregiver, the level of care burden on the caregivers would be increased. CONCLUSIONS: The caregivers of hemodialysis patients endure high level of care burden and this pressure has a negative effect on their quality of life. Therefore, it is recommended to pay more attention to the needs of caregivers and provide adequate social, economic, physical and psychological support for them.

RESUMO

The effects of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) at 1% wt. and different concentrations of chitin nanofiber (CHNF) (1.5-6% wt.) on tensile properties, water vapor permeability (WVP), solubility, swelling, color properties and morphological characteristics of chitosan nanocomposite films were studied. FTIR results confirmed that the affinity of CHNF for interaction with chitosan chains is more than AgNPs. SEM images showed that CHNF was uniformly distributed in the polymer matrix. X-ray diffraction confirmed that the degree of crystallinity was increased by addition of 6% CHNF. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to determine the optimum amount of CHNF as nano filler. The optimization was based on maximizing tensile strength, Young's modulus, elongation at break, L* and decreasing WVP, solubility and swelling. The results showed that the AgNPs had a negative effect on mechanical and color properties of chitosan films. But incorporation of CHNF improved their mechanical and barrier properties significantly. Lowest WVP, solubility and swelling of nanocomposite films were respectively for 6, 2 and 2% wt. of CHNF content. Considering all physical and mechanical parameters, the optimal value calculated for CHNF, was 4.55%.
