RESUMO

Objective: The purpose of this systematic review is to describe developments in three-dimensional (3D) cell printing in the formation of dental pulp tissue using polyester as a scaffold to revitalize the damaged dental pulp tissue. Materials and methods: A literature search for all the data published in PubMed and Google Scholar from January 2000 to April 2022 was conducted. Articles with the keywords 3D cell printing, scaffolds, polyester, dental pulp, and dentistry were used. Inclusion criteria consisted of any publication in electronic or print media directly studying or commenting on the use of polyester scaffolds in 3D cell printing technology in the regeneration of dental pulp. A total of 528 articles were selected, of which 27 duplicates and 286 irrelevant articles were discarded. A total of 215 articles were finally included in the systematic review. Result and conclusion: For dental pulp regeneration, several scaffolds have been discovered to be appealing. Polylactic acid (PLA), polyglycolic acid (PGA), and their copolymers are nontoxic and biocompatible synthetic polyesters that degrade by hydrolysis and have received Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for a variety of applications. This review paper is intended to spark new ideas for using a certain scaffold in a specific regenerative approach to produce the desired pulp-dentin complex.

Aim: To assess the changes in salivary profile and its clinical correlation in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) undergoing chemotherapy. Materials and methods: Children who have been diagnosed with ALL undergoing chemotherapy at Bharati Hospital, Pune, were included in the study. Those children were included who fulfilled the following inclusion and exclusion criteria. Stimulated salivary samples were collected in sterile vials at 1-, 3-, and 6-month intervals and ware assessed for salivary pH and buffering capacity. Caries and oral manifestations were also checked at each interval. Results: A total of 25 children with ALL undergoing chemotherapy were included to participate in the study. The results were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software. There was a statistically significant difference in the change in salivary pH during the 1st and 6th months of chemotherapy (p-value of 0.001). Salivary buffering capacity was also found to be low in these patients during the 1st month of chemotherapy, which gradually increased during the entire course of chemotherapy (p-value of 0.011). Progression of dental caries was seen during the entire course of treatment. Conclusion: All the major changes were seen in the 1st month, that is, the induction phase of chemotherapy. Hence, we can say this is the most affected phase of chemotherapy. Clinical significance: The parents and children should be educated and motivated to maintain proper oral hygiene. Whenever possible, all preventive dental procedures should be undertaken before the start of chemotherapy to avoid future complications. RESUMO

Radicular cyst involving the deciduous dentition is rare. Most of the cases reported it with primary molar teeth with apical infection. But very rare literature is available regarding radicular cysts associated with primary incisors. Case report: A case of 9-year-old boy, who had bilaterally impacted supernumerary teeth, had developed a radicular cyst associated with a previously traumatized and intruded right upper primary lateral incisor is reported. Supernumerary teeth and intruded primary lateral incisor were removed along with enucleation of a radicular cyst. Conclusion: The importance of correct diagnosis and management of radicular cyst in pediatric patients is important as most of the radicular cysts of primary teeth go undiagnosed, which can affect the developing succedaneous tooth bud. AIM: To compare the bond strength of addition silicone with different commonly used custom tray materials by means of different retentive methods (mechanical, chemical, and a combination of chemical and mechanical methods). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fabrications of 90 samples of different tray resin materials were done using an aluminum mold. They were divided into three main groups. Perforations, adhesive application, and a combination of both were done according to the grouping of samples. Polyvinyl siloxane material (medium body) was loaded over the samples. A universal testing machine with a crosshead speed of 5 mm/minute was used to determine the tensile bond strength of tray resin samples to medium body impression material. Based on these values, Student's-test, group statistics, and ANOVA test were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: Visible light cure (VLC) resin showed the highest bond strength in chemicomechanical methods. This was followed by repair resin material. Tray resin material showed poor bond strength in all three retentive methods. The mechanical method was the least retentive in all three resin materials. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: VLC tray resin material can be used with chemical and mechanical retention in clinical situations to make predictably accurate elastomeric impressions. CONCLUSION: It was concluded that VLC tray resin shows good bond strength with polyvinyl siloxane impression material when both mechanical perforations and adhesive applications were done.

Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is a group of hereditary disorders that affect the quality and/or quantity of dental enamel. This paper describes the clinicopathological features of a patient who was born of nonconsanguineous parents and who presented with oral alterations, including yellow and misshapen teeth, intrapulpal calcifications, delayed tooth eruption, and gum enlargement. Scanning electron microscopy of the teeth revealed hypoplastic enamel, and a renal ultrasound detected bilateral nephrocalcinosis, leading to a diagnosis of AI and nephrocalcinosis syndrome. Since nephrocalcinosis is often asymptomatic and can be associated with impaired renal function, dentists who see children with a generalized and thin hypoplastic AI should consider a renal ultrasound scan and referral to a Nephrologist. Children with nephrocalcinosis should also be considered for a dental check.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate, in vitro, the contamination of toothbrushes and pacifiers by Streptococcus mutans, and the efficacy of microwave and chlorhexidine for their disinfection. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty pacifiers and 60 toothbrushes were contaminated with S. mutans and then divided into groups according to the disinfection protocol: Group 1-chlorhexidine solution; group 2-microwave sterilization; and group 3-sterile tap water. The devices were evaluated microbiologically after disinfection for the survival of S. mutans colonies and were examined. The results were analyzed statistically by ANOVA and Turkey test. RESULTS: The results of both types of evaluation showed a large number of S. mutans colonies after spraying with sterile tap water, and chlorhexidine spraying and microwaving were effective in eliminating colonies. Groups 1 and 2 were statistically similar to each other (p > 0.05) and differed significantly from group 3 (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The 0.12% chlorhexidine solution spray and 7 minutes of microwave irradiation were almost equally effective for disinfection of pacifiers and toothbrushes.
