RESUMO

There is no special trait for differentiation of Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli from Avian Fecal Escherichia coli. This investigation is aimed, as a case control study, to evaluate and compare the frequency of iss and irp2 in 43 AFEC strains and also 40 and 56 E. coli strains isolated from the liver and kidney of chickens with colibacillosis, respectively, farmed in Zabol, as a border region of Iran, by PCR. 86.9% and 37.2% of isolates collected from chickens with colibacillosis and feces samples obtained from healthy chickens were positive for iss gene, respectively (P<0.05). On average, 59.3% of E. coli strains isolated from colibacillosis have irp2 gene while 27.9% of isolates from the feces of healthy birds were positive (P<0.05). 52.15% of isolates from colibacillosis and 19.62% of isolates from healthy chicken feces were positive for both genes, with statistical significant difference (p<0.05). This marked difference in the distribution of iss and irp2 genes makes these two genes good markers to differentiate AFEC and APEC strains especially in Sistan region to improve colibacillosis control measurements.

RESUMO

One-hundred and thirty day-old broiler chickens were kept for 6 days and on the seventh day, 120 chickens were selected and randomly divided into 5 groups with 2 replicates. To cause ascites, an amount of 0.12% sodium was added to the drinking water of 4 groups of chickens. On the fourteenth day, the amount of sodium was increased to 0.24% and at the same time, treatment with acetylosalicylic acid and berberis was started. At the age of 14 and 21 days, random sample chickens from each replicate were necropsied and were examined in terms of the factors associated with ascites. The results showed that the ratio of the weight of the right ventricle (RV) to the weight of the total ventricles (TV) and all other factors on 14th day revealed no significant difference between the groups (p>0.05). On 21st day, the RV/TV ratio in the ascites control group was significantly higher than that in the control group (p<0.05). The RV/TV ratio in the groups receiving acetylosalicylic acid and berberis were lower than those in the ascites control group; however, this reduction was not significant (p>0.05). The rate of mortality in the groups receiving acetylosalicylic acid and berberis was lower than that in ascites control group. Considering the results obtained, it can be suggested that the treatment with acetylosalicylic acid and berberis is effective to prevent ascites.

RESUMO

External parasites or ectoparasites, are arthropods that live on or in the skin or feathers, using the host as both shelter and food source. Ectoparasites can have significant impacts on animal health and productivity. The aim of this research was to estimate the prevalence and ectoparasites diversity in pigeons of Zabol, southeast of Iran. A total of 264 pigeons were selected randomly (175 males and 89 females) to evaluate the presence of different ectoparasites. Ectoparasites were collected from different parts of the body and from walls and seams of cubbyholes, using hand lens, forceps, and flashlights to increasing the see sight. The samples were preserved in 70 % alcohol and cleared in lactophenol. The overall prevalence of external parasites in pigeon was 78.40 % [female (33.3 %) and male (66.7 %)]. There was no significant difference of infestation of ectoparasites between male and female (P > 0.05). Prevalence was higher in adult pigeons (84.11 %) than pipers (54.0 %). Two species of ectoparasites were identified: Argas reflexus and Columbicola columbae.

RESUMO

Background: Colorectal cancer is one of the most common causes of death in the world and third and fourth most common cancer among men and women in Iran respectively. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is a tyrosine kinase receptor that shows over expression in epithelial tumors and regulates important processes in tumorigenesis. Incidence and characteristics of colorectal cancer are based on the geographic region and race. Aim: In this research work, the over expression of EGFR in formalin fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) colorectal cancer tumor tissue of patients was studied. Materials and Methods: Fifteen FFPE colorectal cancer tumor tissues (10 women and 5 men; 25-65 years old and stage IV) and 15 non-patients (nine women and six men; 25-65 years old) that were collected during 2006-2012. EGFR gene expression level was analyzed by real-time quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (PCR). All PCR reactions were performed in triplicate for both target gene and internal control (18s ribosomal ribonucleic acid) with the 2-ΔΔCT method. Gene expression differences in patients and controls were evaluated with t-test. Results: The results were showed EGFR gene over expression in 12 (80%) of 15 patients. There was a statistically significant difference in the prevalence of EGFR expression between patients and control (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Our results demonstrated EGFR gene over expression in colorectal cancer tumor tissue compared with controls.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The metabolic syndrome (MES) is associated with a high risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome as well as cut-off points for waist circumference (WC) for diagnosis of MES in Zahedan, southeast Iran. METHODS: Totally, 1802 people (735 men and 1067 women) with metabolic syndrome were surveyed according to National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP ATP III) and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria as well as obtained WC cut-off points for IDF criteria. RESULTS: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was higher in women than in men. In both sexes the prevalence increased with age. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome among 1802 individuals aged ≥19 years according to NCEP ATP III, IDF and IDF -AHA/NHLBI were 21.0% (15.4% in male, 24.9% female), 24.8 (20.0% in male, 28.1% in female) and 23.3% (19.7% in male, 25.8% in female), respectively. Low HDL-C (60.6%) and high WC (43.3%) were the most common components of the metabolic syndrome, followed by high triglycerides (32%), elevated glucose (17.1%) and high blood pressure (13%). CONCLUSION: Our data shows a high prevalence of MES in Zahedan, Southeast Iran, therefore, future health prevention strategies are required for the prevention of MES.

RESUMO

Adaptive alterations of the vessel wall architecture, called vascular remodelling, can be found in arterial hypertension, during the formation of aneurysms, in restenosis after vascular interventions, and in atherosclerosis. MicroRNAs (miR) critically affect the main cellular players in arterial remodelling and may either promote or inhibit the structural changes in the vessel wall. They regulate the phenotype of smooth muscle cells (SMCs) and control the inflammatory response in endothelial cells and macrophages. In SMCs, different sets of miRs induce either a synthetic or contractile phenotype, respectively. The conversion into a synthetic SMC phenotype is a crucial event in arterial remodelling. Therefore, reprogramming of the SMC phenotype by miR targeting can modulate the remodelling process. Furthermore, the effects of stimuli that induce remodelling, such as shear stress, angiotensin II, oxidised low-density lipoprotein, or apoptosis, on endothelial cells are mediated by miRs. The endothelial cell-specific miR-126, for example, is transferred in microvesicles from apoptotic endothelial cells and plays a protective role in atherogenesis. The inflammatory response of the innate immune system, especially through macrophages, promotes arterial remodelling. miR-155 induces the expression of inflammatory cytokines, whereas miR-146a and miR-147 are involved in the resolution phase of inflammation. However, in vivo data on the role of miRs in vascular remodelling are still scarce, which are required to test the therapeutic potential of the available, highly effective miR inhibitors.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is a relatively new entity, classified by WHO as a rare variant of diffuse large B cell lymphoma. The present case report introduces a 17 year old girl with chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, intra-abdominal venous thromboses, ascites, mesenteric lymphadenopathies and small intestinal polyposis, the pathologic and immunohistochemistric examinations of the polypoid lesions were in favor of PBL. Numerous cases of PBL have been reported, but to our knowledge, this is the first report of PBL presenting as small intestinal polyposis.Among lymphomas, only mantle cell lymphoma and follicular cell lymphoma have been previously reported to cause intestinal polyposis. This report introduces Plasmablastic lymphoma, a rare variant of diffuse large B cell lymphoma, as a possible cause of small intestinal polyposis.

RESUMO

The present study was undertaken to assess its impacts on soil quality. Analysis for soil was done from the area used for wastewater irrigation. Soil sample were collected from ten locations such as pasture and irrigated fields of Sistan area near Zabol city. Analysis was done for Electrical Conductivity (EC) and soil texture and key chemical parameters. Results indicated that soils (sampled to 12 cm) from pasture with RWW irrigation exhibited 0.3 units of higher pH and 172, 34 and 40% higher concentrations of extractable Na, B and P, respectively. Compared with sites irrigated with surface water, sites irrigated with RWW exhibited 176% higher EC and 485% higher Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR). Comparison of soil chemical properties before and 3 or 5 year after RWW irrigation on two parts of pasture also revealed the following findings: 89 to 136% increase in Na content; 44 to 63% increase in B content and 88 to 116% increase in P content at the surface depth. Regular monitoring of site-specific water and soil and appropriate management are needed to mitigate the negative impacts of sodium and salts accumulations.
