RESUMO

Dual left anterior descending artery (LAD) is a rare congenital coronary artery anomaly with a prevalence of approximately 1% in the general population. To date, 10 types of dual LAD artery anomalies have been reported. Among these, type 4 is one of the rarest. Knowledge and recognition of the dual LAD artery are important for correct diagnosis and planning of coronary bypass surgery and percutaneous coronary intervention. We report a case of a 59-year-old male with type 4 dual LAD artery who presented with dyspepsia and sweating for several months and had approximately 50%-70% stenosis in a major diagonal branch off the short LAD artery.

RESUMO

The new velocity fields based on the Generalized Ekman (GE) theory to trace floating algae were derived and verified by drifter observations and compared to reanalysis datasets in the Yellow Sea (YS). Two velocity fields using diagnostic approaches and two velocity fields from reanalysis datasets were examined. The results revealed that the diagnostic velocity fields had comparable accuracy to the reanalysis datasets, even locally better. Then, we applied each velocity field to trace green algae, Ulva prolifera, in July 2011 and brown algae, Sargassum horneri, in May 2017 using particle tracking experiments. In addition, drifter trajectories were simulated, and error accumulation speed was estimated for each velocity field. Simulation results using the diagnostic velocity fields consistently showed better agreement with satellite images and in situ observations than those using reanalysis datasets, demonstrating that the diagnostic velocity could be a superior tool for simulating surface-floating substances and organisms. The approach to derive diagnostic velocity fields can be easily applied instead of relying on heavy computing numerical models.

RESUMO

Most land-based debris enters the ocean via rivers during the rainy season. The Nakdong River system, the largest river entering the South Sea of Korea, discharges 3000 tons of debris per year. We deployed small tracking buoys with satellite location transmitters to monitor river-borne floating debris movement. The buoys moved for various distances depending on the change in flux in different regions. A hot spot was expected to contain a large accumulation of floating debris. The central and lower parts of the eastern downstream region were identified as important regions. The results of this study provide information related to the movement of debris that can be used when establishing a method for collection of floating debris from rivers and streams. The study contributes to efforts to decrease the amount of floating debris in oceans and the costs associated with debris removal by improving the effectiveness of preventative measures.
