RESUMO

The effect of droperidol on gastric emptying was determined from the rate of paracetamol absorption in seven healthy adult volunteers who received fentanyl, each acting as his/her own control. On each occasion the subjects were given droperidol 2.5 mg or normal saline (placebo) i.v. in double-blind fashion. On both occasions, 20 and 50 min later a dose of 0.0015 mg kg-1 fentanyl was given. Ten minutes after the first fentanyl dose, the subjects ingested 20 mg kg-1 paracetamol with 200 ml of water. Our findings demonstrate that droperidol was not able to accelerate gastric emptying in subjects receiving subsequent small doses of fentanyl. Furthermore, the delayed absorption pattern of paracetamol on both occasions suggests that gastric emptying is retarded with or without droperidol.

RESUMO

The effect of general anaesthesia with halothane on postoperative absorption of paracetamol was measured in seven patients, after minor surgery on the extremities. Gastric emptying, estimated indirectly by the rise in serum paracetamol following oral administration of the drug, was significantly delayed after general anaesthesia with halothane compared with gastric emptying when general anaesthesia with halothane was not administered. It was furthermore demonstrated that absorption of paracetamol and therefore gastric emptying were normal or nearly normal when diazepam 15 mg was given orally to the same patients 2 weeks later.

RESUMO

The effect of epidural anaesthesia on early postoperative gastric emptying was measured in seven patients, after minor surgery on the extremities. Gastric emptying, estimated indirectly by the rise in serum paracetamol following oral administration of the drug, was not delayed following epidural anaesthesia. It was furthermore demonstrated that gastric emptying was normal or nearly normal when diazepam 15 mg was given orally to the same patients 2 weeks later.

RESUMO

Seven carboxy modified and four amino modified derivatives of human serum albumin have been prepared and studied by optical rotatory dispersion measurements, gel filtration, immunoelectrophoresis, immunodiffusion and by use of an ammonium sulphate technique. It is found that carboxy groups are of major importance for the maintenance of the structure and function of human serum albumin, and that carboxy modification has a much more profound effect than amino modification has to the same relative extent.
