RESUMO

Two hundred and eighteen taxa of the genus Agrilus (Coleoptera, Buprestidae) mostly from the Palaearctic and Oriental regions are studied and their taxonomic, nomenclatural, distributional or biological data are updated. For some species, the biological information is supplemented by images from the field, or distributional data by maps showing the whole range of the species. The synonymy of following Agrilus is updated: A. blairi Bourgoin, 1925 (A. telawensis Fisher, 1935 syn. nov.); A. lancifer Deyrolle, 1864 (A. perakianus Kerremans, 1900 syn. nov.); A. lestagei Théry, 1930 (A. collartianus Descarpentries Villiers, 1963 syn. nov.); A. lugubris Kerremans, 1914 (A. achilleus Obenberger, 1935 syn. nov.); A. ocularis Deyrolle, 1864 (A. capitatus Deyrolle, 1864 syn. nov.), A. bidentellus Obenberger, 1924 syn. nov.) and Agrilus velatus Kerremans, 1912 (A. kuchingensis Tôyama, 1987 syn. nov.). The invalid synonyms A. myrmido Kerremans, 1912; A. myrmidonius Obenberger, 1936 and A. miwai Théry, 1936 are moved from the synonymy of A. achilleus Obenberger, 1935 to synonymy of A. lugubris Kerremans, 1914. A. massanensis Schaefer, 1955 is downgraded to subspecies A. pratensis massanensis Schaefer, 1955 status nov. The specific name samyi Baudon, 1968 is resurrected from the synonymy of A. suturaalba Deyrolle, 1864 and revalidated as Agrilus samyi Baudon, 1968 (nomen revalidatum).

RESUMO

We report the Eurasian species Agrilus ribesi Schaefer, 1946, for the first time from North America and propose that the damage to currants (Ribes spp.) in Ontario prior to 1940 and ascribed to A. cuprescens were caused by this species. We provide morphological diagnostic characters for A. ribesi and closely related A. cuprescens and we complement this information with DNA barcodes from four alien Agrilus species established in North America (i.e., A. ribesi Schaefer, A. cuprescens (Ménétriés), A. planipennis Fairmaire and A. sulcicollis Lacordaire) to enable DNA-based identification of these invasive species. Additionally, published information on A. ribesi is summarized and new data are provided on the host plants and biology of larva in North America. The distribution of A. ribesi is mapped, both in its native Palaearctic region and in Canada and the USA, together with the range of its potential host plants in North America. A. ribesi was recovered as a sister-species of A. cuprescens on the neighbor joining DNA barcoding tree and low genetic variability of North American populations may indicate a single introduction to North America for each of these species.

RESUMO

The Agrilus occipitalis species-group is redefined and diagnosed. Two species from this group, Agrilus auriventris Saunders, 1873 and Agrilus occipitalis (Eschscholtz, 1822), are known as the serious pests of cultivated Citrus trees. Overall twenty-three taxa are included in the Agrilus occipitalis species-group. A complete list of references, type material, species examined and distribution is given for each taxon. The host plants, adult occurrence and altitude range is cited for most taxa. Habitus of all taxa and aedeagi of available males are pictured. Images of primary type specimens are provided. A character state matrix table for diagnostic characters is given for all taxa to facilitate their determination. The following new taxonomic and nomenclatural acts are proposed. New species:eight new species are described: Agrilus mucidus sp. n., Agrilus nebulosus sp. n., Agrilus picturatus sp. n., Agrilus pluvius sp. n., Agrilus pseudoambiguus sp. n., Agrilus tesselatus sp. n., Agrilus trepanatus sp. n. and Agrilus umrongso sp. n. Proposed synonyms: eight synonyms are proposed: celebicola Obenberger, 1924, syn. n. (synonym of occipitalis Eschscholtz, 1822); connexus Kerremans, 1900, syn. n. (synonym of occipitalis Eschscholtz, 1822); cupricauda Saunders, 1867 syn. n. (synonym of occipitalis Eschscholtz, 1822); evinadus Gory & Laporte, 1839, syn. n. (synonym of occipitalis Eschscholtz, 1822); nirius Obenberger, 1924 syn. reconfirmed (synonym of occipitalis Eschscholtz, 1822); oblatus Kerremans, 1900, syn. n. (synonym of occipitalis Eschscholtz, 1822); samoensis Blair, 1928, syn. n. (synonym of auriventris Saunders, 1873); tebinganus Obenberger, 1924, syn. n. (synonym of occipitalis Eschscholtz, 1822). New lectotype designations: six lectotypes are designated: Agrilus celebicola Obenberger, 1924; Agrilus cupricauda Saunders, 1867; Agrilus korenskyi Obenberger, 1923; Agrilus kurandae Obenberger, 1923; Agrilus nirius Obenberger, 1924; Agrilus nitidus Kerremans, 1898.

RESUMO

The work treats 52 species-group names related to genus Agrilus incorrectly cited in the world catalogue of Bellamy (2008). The name dimorphus Théry, 1941 from the genus Aphanisticus and mulleri Théry, 1925 from the genus Australodraco are also treated. Four primary or secondary homonyms are replaced by substitute names. Most of the proposed changes refer to the availability, validity, spelling and authorship of the names. The following new nomenclatural acts are proposed: Four new substitute names for homonyms: gola Jendek for filiformis Gory & Laporte, 1839 not Herbst, 1801; lukesi Obenberger, 1936 for modicus Kerremans, 1892 not Solier, 1833; thomsoni Jendek for impressipennis Thomson not Uhler, 1855; walkerianus Jendek (Aphanisticus) for sulcicollis Walker not Lacordaire, 1835. New synonyms: turei Curletti, 2002 is an objective synonym of thurei Curletti, 1996. Lectotype designations: A lectotype is designated for Agrilus dualaecola Obenberger, 1923.
