RESUMO

Air pollution is one of the most serious problems facing mankind because of its impact on ecosystems and human beings. Although particulate matter (PM) consists of both filterable PM (FPM) and condensable PM (CPM), most research has focused on eliminating only FPM. In this work, we introduce a filter system that removes both FPM and CPM from pollution source with high efficiency. The system consists of two reduced graphene oxide (rGO) filters and a condenser between them that can remove the usual FPM and at the same time CPM-induced FPM that typically leaves the pollution source unabated. The filters, quite effective in removing the PM with their three-dimensional structure, retain the removal capability even at high temperature and in acidic condition that prevail at the pollution source. The proposed rGO system could provide a complete solution for removal of both FPM and CPM from the pollution source.

RESUMO

The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of the Inimicus japonicus was analyzed by next-generation sequencing in this study. The mitogenome is 16,978 base pairs (bp) long and codes for 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNA), and 1 non-coding control region. The overall nucleotide composition of the mitogenome is: 29.61% for A, 29.16% for T, 25.26% for C, and 15.97% for G. Twenty-two tRNAs range from 67 to 74 bp in length, and 2 rRNA (12S and 16S) were 953 and 1,687 bp long, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis by neighbor-joining (NJ) method indicated that I. japonicus showed considerable genetic similarity (82%), and had a closer relationship in the phylogenetic tree to Synanceia verrucosa.

RESUMO

The landmark-based morphometric and meristic analysis of the kelp grouper (Epinephelus bruneus), red spotted grouper (E. akaara) and seven-banded grouper (E. septemfasciatus) were performed to compare the differentiation of overall body shape and structure. The measurements of the morphometric dimensions were observed in 25 parts (truss dimension: 16 parts; head part dimension: 9 parts) of 38 morphometric dimensions and also meristic differences observed in 3 parts (dorsal fin, anal fin and caudal fin) of 6 meristic counts (P < 0.05). Observed morphometric characteristics primarily involved in truss and head part dimension, kelp grouper have larger values in caudal part of truss dimension, kelp grouper, red spotted grouper and seven-banded grouper have similar values in pectoral part of truss dimension, in addition to, results of head part dimension showed that red spotted grouper have smaller values in overall dimensions (P < 0.05). As meristic characteristics, kelp grouper have more number of anal fin rays than other fish, red spotted grouper have more number of dorsal soft rays than other fish, and seven spotted grouper have more number of anal soft rays, and caudal fin rays than other fish (P < 0.05). Photographed under the x-ray, kelp grouper have the most curved vertebral column and largest swim bladder than other fishes (P < 0.05). Our results of this study confirmed that 3 subfamily fishes adequately can distinguish with external body shape, and we hope that the results of our study could be used to identify in Serranidae family as taxonomical parameters.

RESUMO

Triplicate groups of fed and starved olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus (body weight: 119.8±17.46 g), were examined over 42 days for physiological changes using hematological, biochemical, and non-specific immune parameters. No significant differences in concentrations of blood hemoglobin and hematocrit and plasma levels of total cholesterol, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, glucose, and cortisol were detected between fed and starved groups at any sampling time throughout the experiment. In contrast, plasma total protein concentrations were significantly lower in starved fish than in fed fish from day 7 onwards. Moreover, plasma lysozyme concentrations were significantly higher in starved flounder from day 21 onwards. This result confirms that the response of olive flounder to short-term (less than about 1.5 months) starvation consists of a readjustment of metabolism rather than the activation of an alarm-stress response. The present results indicate that starvation does not significantly compromise the health status of fish despite food limitation.

RESUMO

Blood physiological responses, growth and survial rates were examined in juvenile starry flounder, Plotichthys stellatus exposed to different salinities (5, 10, 20, 33 ppt) for 90 days. At the end of the experiment, the plasma levels of Na+and osmolality were similar at 10, 20, 33 ppt, however, the values were significantly lower at 5 ppt compared to those at other salinities. Stress responses such as plasma levels of cortisol, glucose, hematocrit (Ht) and hemoglobin (Hb) levels in all groups showed no significant difference. Although no differences in growth were observed, body weight at 20 ppt tended to be higher than others. Survival in all groups was greater than 99% with no significant differences. These results suggest that starry flounder is euryhalin species, thus this fish can be reared with normal growth and survival rate at 5-33 ppt salinity without osmoregulatory disturbance and stress.

RESUMO

We cloned full-length sox3 cDNA from testis of black porgy, Acanthopagrus schlegeli. Black porgy sox3 cDNA consists of 897 base pairs (bp) and encodes a protein of 298 amino acids. We have investigated the expression pattern of sox3 and DMRT1 mRNA during the sex-reverse process from male to female (immature testis, mature testis, testicular portion of mostly testis, ovarian portion of mostly testis, testicular portion of mostly ovary, ovarian portion of mostly ovary and ovary). The expression of sox3 and DMRT1 mRNA was high in mature testis of black porgy during sex-reverse process. In a histological analysis, testicular portion of gonad was degenerated and the ovary portion was increased during sex reversal from male to female, and then oocytes were increased in ovary. Also we examined the expression of sox3 and DMRT1 mRNA after gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue (GnRHa) treatment in immature black porgy. The expression of sox3 and DMRT1 mRNA was increased after GnRHa treatment (in vivo and in vitro experiment) in immature black porgy. Therefore, we concluded that sox3 and DMRT1 were involved in the development of testis than ovary in black porgy.
