RESUMO

Correction to: Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci 2023; 27 (10): 4462-4470-DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_202305_32452-published online on May 29, 2023. After publication, the authors have discovered a mistake in the number of male and female patients in the Patients and Methods section. Therefore, the following sentence "58 male patients and 42 female patients" is corrected into "71 male and 39 female patients". The corrections do not affect the article's results and conclusion as patients are reported correctly in the text as well as figures and tables. There are amendments to this paper. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Cerebral infarction is induced by cerebral artery occlusion, resulting in ischemia, hypoxia, necrosis of brain cells in the corresponding blood supply area, and then dysfunction. Health action process approach (HAPA) model emphasizes the proposal and practice of health behavior as a whole and uses self-monitoring and encouraging ultimately developed health behavior. The present study explores the effects of comprehensive nursing measures of HAPA model on neurotransmitters, self-care ability and clinical outcomes of cerebral infarction patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: One hundred and ten patients with cerebral infarction diagnosed and treated in our hospital from July 2020 to February 2022 were included as the subjects. The subjects were randomly grouped as the control (55 patients) and the study group (55 patients) and received conventional nursing measures and additional comprehensive nursing measures of HAPA model, respectively. The patients were tested for changes in self-care ability, nerve damage [myelin basic protein (MBP), S100B, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), neuron-specific enolase (NSE)] and neurotransmitter indexes [acid-soluble protein (Asp), neuropeptide Y (NPY), substance P (SP), glutamate (Glu)], respectively. The patients were considered as the good prognosis group (47 cases) and poor prognosis group (63 cases) according to the prognosis after comprehensive care. The logistic regression model was used to analyze the risk factors affecting the poor prognosis of patients with cerebral infarction. RESULTS: After nursing, China Stroke Scale (CSS) score, the Fugl Meyer Rating Scale (FMA) score and Barthel index were significantly higher in both groups than before nursing, and all indexes were significantly higher in the study group than in the control group (p< 0.05). The length of hospital stay was significantly shorter in the study group than in the control group (p< 0.05). Compared with before nursing, the health knowledge, self-care skills, self-responsibility and self-concept of two groups were strongly increased after nursing, and the study group had much higher indexes than the control group (p< 0.05). After nursing, the levels of MBP, S100B, GFAP, NSE, Asp, NPY, SP and Glu in both groups were largely decreased, and more significant decrease was found in the study group (p< 0.05). Age, body mass index (BMI), hypertension history, coronary heart disease history and National Institutes of Health Stroke Score (NIHSS) score after treatment were significantly different between the good and poor prognosis groups (p< 0.05). The prognosis of patients in the study group was 52.73%, which was significantly higher than 32.73% in the control group (p< 0.05). Age, hypertension history, and post-treatment NIHSS score were independent risk factors related to poor prognosis by logistic multiple regression analysis (p< 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Comprehensive care measures of HAPA model may be used with advantage to improve the self-care ability, reduce the degree of neurological damage, and improve neurological function in cerebral infarction patients. Age, hypertension history, and NIHSS score after treatment were all risk factors related to poor prognosis.

RESUMO

Objective: To analyse the mental state of patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) in Chengdu. Methods: One thousand five hundred and thirty-six AR patients from Sichuan Provincial Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Sichuan People's Hospital, Sichuan Second Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were selected from July 2013 to January 2018. Eight hundred and twenty-seven patients were screened into study group by inclusion and exclusion standards. The symptom check list 90 (SCL-90) was used to group and score the mental state of these patients according to nine classification criteria: gender, BMI, age, marital status, monthly salary, disease duration, living environment, education level and working environment. Then, the scores were compared within groups. Inter-group comparison was made between the study group and the Chinese norm, and the positive factors for psychological disorders were extracted. Four symptoms in the study group, i.e. nasal itching, sneezing, clear discharge and nasal congestion, were scored on the visual analogue scale (VAS). SPSS 19.0 software was used to carry out statistical analysis. Partial correlation analysis was performed between the positive factors and the symptom scores by multiple regression statistical method. Results: The total score of SCL-90 in the study group was 2.64±0.25, which was accorded with mild to moderate mental health impairment. There were 124 (15.0%) without mental health damage, 176 (21.3%) with mild damage, 474 (57.3%) with mild to moderate damage, 41 (5.0%) with moderate to severe damage and 12 (1.4%) with severe damage. The in-group comparison showed that the top three categories of different items were the living environment, gender and working environment. The scores of somatization, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, psychosis, other (sleep, diet) and total average score of urban residents were higher than that of country residents (3.29±0.61 vs 2.65±0.50, 2.81±0.77 vs 2.05±0.38, 3.10±0.19 vs 2.49±0.67, 3.40±0.84 vs 2.49±0.70, 3.04±0.64 vs 2.33±0.51, 3.02±0.55 vs 2.40±0.77, 3.40±0.41 vs 2.52±0.77, 2.91±0.11 vs 2.29±0.40, Z value was 4.88, 5.25, 4.57, 5.91, 5.09, 4.63, 5.55, -4.55, respectively, all P<0.05). Women scored higher than man for somatization, interpersonal sensitivity, depression and others (2.66±0.51 vs 2.00±0.45, 3.37±0.47 vs 2.63±0.51, 3.44±0.57 vs 2.85±0.52, 3.47±0.36 vs 2.76±0.45, Z value was -5.10, -5.51, -4.86, -5.28, respectively, all P<0.05). The scores of somatization, interpersonal sensitivity, psychosis and other (sleep, diet) were higher in the indoor group than those in the outdoor group (3.49±0.64 vs 2.78±0.46, 3.33±0.30 vs 2.56±0.68, 3.28±0.60 vs 2.67±0.31, 3.50±0.85 vs 2.85±0.37, Z value was 5.31, 5.79, 4.89, 5.00, respectively, all P<0.05). The outdoor group scored higher on obsessive-compulsive symptoms, anxiety and hostility (3.44±0.40 vs 2.83±0.35, 3.40±0.50 vs 2.57±0.93, 3.34±0.88 vs 2.69±0.56, Z value was 4.96, 6.22, 5.08, respectively, all P<0.05). The inter-group comparison found that depression, anxiety, psychosis and other (sleep, diet) could be partially correlated with VAS scores as 4 positive factors. The results of partial correlation analysis showed that depression was positively correlated with sneezing and nasal runny discharge, anxiety was positively correlated with nasal itching and nasal obstruction, psychosis was positively correlated with nasal itching and sneezing, and other (sleep, diet) was positively correlated with nasal runny discharge and nasal obstruction. Conclusion: AR patients have mild to moderate mental health impairments, which are correlated with AR symptoms.

RESUMO

The bamboo grasshopper Ceracris fasciata is regarded as a major pest species because of the damage it causes to bamboo, and its classification within the families and subfamilies of the suborder Caelifera remains unclear. Thus, we attempted to resolve these questions using molecular biology methods and analyses. Our results are as follows: (1) the complete mitochondrial genome of C. fasciata is 15,569 bp in length. The mitochondrial genome contains a standard set of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes and an A + T-rich region in the same order as those of the other analysed Caeliferan species. The putative start codon for the COX1 gene in C. fasciata is ACC, although it is not defined in other genes. The presence of tandem repeats of different sizes in the A + T-rich region may lead to size differences in other mitochondrial genomes. The mitochondrial genome of C. fasciata harbours the typical 37 genes and an A + T-rich region, and it shows similar characteristics to those of other grasshopper species. Characterization of the mitochondrial genome has enriched our knowledge of the mitochondrial genomes of Orthoptera around the world. Therefore, the phylogenetic relationships in Orthoptera can be re-examined. (2) In phylogenetic analyses, the monophyly of Orthoptera and its two suborders (Caelifera and Ensifera) has been consistently recovered based on most of the datasets selected, regardless of the optimal criteria. Our results do not support the monophyly of the subfamily Oedipodinae of Caelifera. We found that Phlaeoba albonema of the Acridinae is sorted into a clade with Ceracris in all our phylogenetic trees, and field experiments show that Phlaeoba always lives with Ceracris in the same ecotopes. Therefore, we suggest that Phlaeoba should be classified as a member of the Oedipodinae. We found that C. fasciata always clustered with Ceracris kiangsu, and both were sisters to Ceracris versicolor. Therefore, the genetic relationship between C. fasciata and C. kiangsu is closer than that between C. fasciata and C. versicolor. (3) The oldest estimated time of divergence of Ensifera in this context was determined to be 146.16 million years ago (Mya), or around the late Jurassic or early Cretaceous. We estimated that katydids (Grylloidea) likely diverged from other groups in the early Cretaceous. According to our divergence time analyses, we concluded that the ancestral Acrididae probably originated in the early Paleogene, and it is likely that the major diversification events happened at the middle Paleogene, well into the next geologic time. We estimated that crickets (Tettigoniidae) likely diverged from other groups in the early Cretaceous. Acrididae and Romaleinae group, Pyrgacrididae and Ommexechidae group, the youngest two clades we observed, were estimated to have diverged 58.79 Mya, between the middle and early Paleogene. C. versicolor is a sister to the group containing C. kiangsu and C. fasciata. First, C. versicolor diverged from the sister group (C. kiangsu + C. fasciata) around 44.81 Mya, and then the C. kiangsu and C. fasciata group separated at 43.04 Mya.

RESUMO

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are now recognized as key post-transcriptional regulators in regulation of phenotypic diversity. Qinlingacris elaeodes is a species of the alpine grasshopper, which is endemic to China. Adult individuals have three wing forms: wingless, unilateral-winged and short-winged. This is an ideal species to investigate the phenotypic plasticity, development and evolution of insect wings because of its case of unilateral wing form in both the sexes. We sequenced a small RNA library prepared from mesothoraxes of the adult grasshoppers using the Illumina deep sequencing technology. Approximately 12,792,458 raw reads were generated, of which the 854,580 high-quality reads were used only for miRNA identification. In this study, we identified 49 conserved miRNAs belonging to 41 families and 69 species-specific miRNAs. Moreover, seven miRNA*s were detected both for conserved miRNAs and species-specific miRNAs, which were supported by hairpin forming precursors based on polymerase chain reaction. This is the first description of miRNAs in alpine grasshoppers. The results provide a useful resource for further studies on molecular regulation and evolution of miRNAs in grasshoppers. These findings not only enrich the miRNAs for insects but also lay the groundwork for the study of post-transcriptional regulation of wing forms.

RESUMO

During the last decade, multilocus analysis has gradually become a powerful tool for the studies of population genetics and phylogeography. The double-striped cockroach, Blattella bisignata, is endemic to southeast Asia, and there is currently little genetic information available for the species. We chose it as the target species to investigate a biodiversity hotspot in southwest China. Here, we report the identification and characterization of 11 single-copy anonymous nuclear markers with an average length of 378bp. These loci, isolated from a genomic library of B. bisignata, can amplify in two additional Blattella species (B. germanica and B. lituricollis). While testing these markers in representative species of Blattellidae, Blattidae and Epilampridae, some of them can cross-amplify successfully. After sequencing 30 individuals collected from southern China per locus, we found relatively high variability (approximately 3.6 SNPs per 100bp). Finally, a small-scale study was also performed to show that these markers do indeed fulfill the expectations as phylogeographic markers.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To identify the genotype of merozoite surface protein 1 (MSP1) of Plasmodium falciparum isolates from Hainan Province. METHODS: Nested PCR was applied to amplify the MSP1 of Blocks 2 and 3 Plasmodium falciparum isolates from Hainan Province. Two allelic family representative gene fragments were sequenced. RESULTS: From 36 out of 39 blood samples from Plasmodium falciparum patients, 44 gene fragments of blocks 2 and 3 of the MSP1 were amplified, of which the MAD20-type allele was dominant(75%). followed by K1-type allele. No RO33-type allele was found. The mixed infection rate of the two different allelic type was 19.4%. Sequence analysis showed that the sequences of MAD20- and K1-type isolates from Hainan Province were highly homologous to that of the MAD20 and K1 allelic prototypes. CONCLUSION: Two principal allelic types of MSP1 gene, MAD20- and K1-type, exist in malaria endemic areas in Hainan Province, the MAD20-type being the dominant.

RESUMO

Spinal dysraphism is usually accompanied with lumbosacral lipoma. The neurological deficits such as lower extremities sensorimotor disturbances, bowel and bladder dysfunction are produced by tethering, compression of lipoma and direct transmission of external force on the spinal cord during growth period. 25 patients treated surgically at our hospital between May, 1985, and January, 1993, were reviewed. Surgical approach was designed for debulking the lipomatous mass, untethering and decompressing the cord, repairing the dural defect and paraspinal muscle cleft. 2-59 months (mean 37.5 mons) after operation the 2 patients whose neurological system were normal before operation remained intact. In other 23 patients, bowel function recovered in 75%, active urination restored and improved in 66.2%. Motor dysfunction and paresthesia of the lower extremities alleviated in 78.3%. A case of mild uremia returned to normal and another moderate case improved. None was deteriorated by the operative procedure except one case in which a posterior nerve root was injured.

RESUMO

Plasmodium falciparum (Lab. culture FCR3 isolate) developed resistance to sodium artesunate after exposure to the drug in vitro. The drug effective concentration which resulted in 50 per cent schizont maturation inhibition (IC50) was 1.6 ng/ml (4.1 nmol/L) before exposure to the drug. After 130 days of discontiguous exposure to sodium artesunate in a stepwise fashion, the sensitivity of the isolate to the drug decreased, with its IC50 3-fold higher than that of the parent isolate. The resistance to artesunate decreased significantly after the resistant line was grown in drug-free medium.

RESUMO

Sprague-Dawley rats were given ig tetramethylpyrazine phosphate (TMP) 5 mg/kg with or without previous borneol 5 mg/kg. The plasma TMP concentrations were analysed by GC method, and the data were treated by NONLIN program. The Cmax were 931 and 562 ng/ml, respectively, (P less than 0.01); while the AUC were 68,849 and 37,174, respectively, (P less than 0.05). It is suggested that the borneol enhances the absorption of the TMP but not in elimination.
