RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Minimally invasive treatments for spinal cord tumours are common. The aim of this study was to compare the perioperative outcomes of patients with thoracic extramedullary spinal tumours (TEST) treated by microendoscopic minimally invasive surgery-hemilaminectomy through a homemade tubular retractor (MIS-TR) and microscopic full laminectomy (open surgery). METHODS: Between February 2016 and February 2021, 51 patients with TEST were included. According to their clinical data, patients were classified into the MIS-TR group (n = 30) and the open surgery group (n = 21) and assessed. RESULTS: In both groups, the mean operation time, change in perioperative ASIA score, and modified Macnab score were comparable. The average postoperative hospital stay in the MIS-TR group was substantially shorter than that in the open surgery group (p < 0.0001). The mean blood loss volume in the MIS-TR group was substantially lower than that in the open surgery group (p = 0.001). The perioperative complication rate in the MIS-TR group was considerably lower than that in the open surgery group (p < 0.0001). At the 3-month follow-up, there was no substantial difference in the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score improvement between the two groups. Nonetheless, at the 12-month follow-up, the average ODI in the MIS-TR group was considerably lower than that in the open surgery group (p = 0.023). The main influencing factors for complete postoperative recovery were preoperative ASIA score (OR 7.848, P = 0.002), surgical complications (OR 0.017, P = 0.008) and age (OR 0.974, P = 0.393). CONCLUSIONS: MIS-TR is safer and more effective than open surgery for treating TEST, but the long-term recovery of MIS-TR is not better than that of open surgery.

RESUMO

Biological activated carbon (BAC) is one of the important treatment processes in wastewater and advanced water treatment. However, the BAC process has been reported to have antimicrobial resistance (AMR) risks. In this study, a new BAC-related treatment process was developed to reduce AMR caused by BAC treatment: ozone/peroxymonosulfate-BAC (O3/PMS-BAC). The O3/PMS-BAC showed better treatment performance on the targeted five antibiotics and dissolved organic matter removal than O3-BAC and BAC treatments. The O3/PMS-BAC process had better control over the AMR than the O3-BAC and BAC processes. Specifically, the amount of targeted antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the effluent and biofilm of O3/PMS-BAC was only 0.01-0.03 and 0.11-0.26 times that of the BAC process, respectively. Additionally, the O3/PMS-BAC process removed 1.76 %-62.83 % and 38.14 %-99.27 % more of the targeted ARGs in the effluent and biofilm than the BAC process. The total relative abundance of the targeted 12 ARGs in the O3/PMS-BAC effluent was decreased by 86 % compared to the effluent after BAC treatment. In addition, Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes were probably the main hosts for transmitting ARGs in this study, and their relative abundance decreased by 9.6 % and 6.0 % in the effluent of the O3/PMS-BAC treatment compared to that in BAC treatment. The relationship analysis revealed that controlling antibiotic discharge was crucial for managing AMR, as antibiotics were closely related to both ARGs and bacteria associated with their emergence. The results showed that the newly developed treatment process could reduce AMR caused by BAC treatment while ensuring effluent quality. Therefore, O3/PMS-BAC is a promising alternative to BAC treatment for future applications.

RESUMO

Background: Furmonertinib showed superior efficacy compared with gefitinib as first-line therapy in patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in the FURLONG study. Here we present prespecified secondary endpoints of patient-reported outcomes (PRO). Methods: In this multicentre, double-blind, double-dummy, randomised phase 3 study, patients were 1:1 randomly assigned to receive furmonertinib 80 mg once daily or gefitinib 250 mg once daily. PROs assessed by the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality-of-Life Questionnaire Core 30 and Quality-of-Life Questionnaire Lung Cancer 13 were analysed using a mixed model for repeated measures and time-to-event analyses. A difference in score of 10 points or more was deemed clinically relevant. Findings: Three hundred and fifty-seven patients (furmonertinib group, n = 178; gefitinib group, n = 179) received at least one dose of the study drug, all of whom completed at least one PRO assessment. Statistically significant difference of overall score changes from baseline favoured furmonertinib in physical functioning (between-group difference 2.14 [95% CI 0.25-4.04], p = 0.027), nausea/vomiting (-1.56 [95% CI -2.62 to -0.49], p = 0.004), appetite loss (-2.24 [95% CI -4.26 to -0.23], p = 0.029), diarrhoea (-3.36 [95% CI -5.19 to -1.54], p < 0.001), alopecia (-2.62 [95% CI -4.54 to -0.71], p = 0.007), and pain in other parts (-4.55 [95% CI -7.37 to -1.74], p = 0.002), but not reached clinical relevance. Time to deterioration in physical functioning (hazard ratio 0.63 [95% CI 0.42-0.94], p = 0.021), cognitive functioning (0.73 [95% CI 0.54-0.98], p = 0.034), nausea/vomiting (0.64 [95% CI 0.41-0.99], p = 0.042), appetite loss (0.63 [95% CI 0.43-0.92], p = 0.016), diarrhoea (0.63 [95% CI 0.46-0.85], p = 0.002), dyspnoea (0.72 [95% CI 0.53-0.98], p = 0.034), cough (0.67 [95% CI 0.44-1.00], p = 0.049), dysphagia (0.54 [95% CI 0.35-0.83], p = 0.004), and alopecia (0.62 [95% CI 0.42-0.90], p = 0.012) was longer with furmonertinib versus gefitinib. Interpretation: In patients with locally advanced or metastatic EGFR mutation-positive NSCLC, furmonertinib showed improved scores and delayed deterioration in several functioning and symptoms compared to gefitinib. RESUMO

Somatic mutations related to clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) are risk factors for stroke. The impact of DNMT3A, the most mutated gene in CHIP, on clinical functional outcomes of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) remains unclear. In a well-characterized cohort of 8524 ischemic stroke patients, we demonstrated that DNMT3A-driven CHIP was significantly associated with neurological disability in these patients. With a stroke mouse model of transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO), we demonstrated that DNMT3A protein levels in the brain penumbra increased. The DNMT3A inhibitor RG108 administration amplified neutrophil proliferation in the blood, promoted neutrophil infiltration into the brain penumbra, and exaggerated proinflammatory activation in tMCAO male mice. DNMT3A inhibition also significantly increased infarct volume and worsened neurobehavioral function in tMCAO male mice. In conclusion, DNMT3A somatic mutations are associated with worsened neurological disability in some patients with AIS, potentially through increased neutrophil proliferation and infiltration in the ischemic brain region. These findings suggest a possible mechanism for proinflammatory activation and tissue damage in the affected brain tissue, highlighting the need for further research in this area.

RESUMO

Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) is caused by loss of expression of paternally expressed genes in the human 15q11.2-q13 imprinting domain. A set of imprinted genes that are active on the paternal but silenced on the maternal chromosome are intricately regulated by a bipartite imprinting center (PWS-IC) located in the PWS imprinting domain. In past work, we discovered that euchromatic histone lysine N-methyltransferase-2 (EHMT2/G9a) inhibitors were capable of un-silencing PWS-associated genes by restoring their expression from the maternal chromosome. Here, in mice lacking the Ehmt2 gene, we document unsilencing of the imprinted Snrpn/Snhg14 gene on the maternal chromosome in the late embryonic and postnatal brain. Using PWS and Angelman syndrome patient derived cells with either paternal or maternal deletion of 15q11-q13, we have found that chromatin of maternal PWS-IC is closed and has compact 3D folding confirmation. We further show that a new and distinct noncoding RNA preferentially transcribed from upstream of the PWS-IC interacts with EHMT2 and forms a heterochromatin complex to silence gene expression of SNRPN in CIS on maternal chromosome. Taken together, these findings demonstrate that allele-specific recruitment of EHMT2 is required to maintain the maternal imprints. Our findings provide novel mechanistic insights and support a new model for imprinting maintenance of the PWS imprinted domain.

RESUMO

Steel structures located in subtropical marine climates face harsh conditions such as strong sunlight and heavy rain, and they are extremely corroded. In this study, a waterborne coating with excellent corrosion resistance, hydrophobic ability, high-temperature resistance and high density was successfully prepared by using modified nanoscale titania powders and grafted polymers. The effects of three modifiers on titania nanoparticles and waterborne coatings' properties were studied independently. The experimental results showed that the activation index of the modification employing methacryloxy silane reached 97.5%, which achieved the best modification effect at 64.4 °C for 43.3 min. The waterborne coating with nanoscale titania modified by methacryloxy silane exhibited the best hydrophobic effect, with a drop contact angle of 115.4° and excellent heat resistance of up to 317.2 °C. The application of the waterborne modified coating in steel structures under subtropical maritime climates showed that the waterborne titania coatings demonstrated excellent resistance to corrosion, high temperatures and harsh sunlight, with a maximum service life of up to five years. Economic analysis indicated that, considering a conservative three-year effective lifespan, this coating could save more than 50% in cost compared with conventional industrial coatings. Finally, the strengthening mechanism of the polymer coatings with modified nanoscale titania was analyzed.

RESUMO

The distinctive environmental attributes of the Southern Ocean underscore the indispensability of microorganisms in this region. We analyzed 208 samples obtained from four separate layers (Surface, Deep Chlorophyll Maximum, Middle, and Bottom) in the neighboring seas of the Antarctic Peninsula and the Cosmonaut Sea to explore variations in microbial composition, interactions and community assembly processes. The results demonstrated noteworthy distinctions in alpha and beta diversity across diverse communities, with the increase in water depth, a gradual rise in community diversity was observed. In particular, the co-occurrence network analysis exposed pronounced microbial interactions within the same water mass, which are notably stronger than those observed between different water masses. Co-occurrence network complexity was higher in the surface water mass than in the bottom water mass. Yet, the surface water mass exhibited greater network stability. Moreover, in the phylogenetic-based ß-nearest taxon distance analyses, deterministic processes were identified as the primary factors influencing community assembly in Antarctic microorganisms. This study contributes to exploring diversity and assembly processes under the complex hydrological conditions of Antarctica.

RESUMO

Eucommiae Cortex (EC) is frequently used alone or in combination with other active ingredients to treat a range of illnesses. An efficient technical instrument for changing cheap or plentiful organic chemicals into rare or costly counterparts is biotransformation. It combines EC with biotransformation techniques with the aim of producing some novel active ingredients, using different strains of bacteria that were introduced to biotransform EC in an aseptic environment. The high-quality strains were screened for identification after the fermentation broth was found using HPLC, and the primary unidentified chemicals were separated and purified in order to be structurally identified. Strain 1 was identified as Aspergillus niger and strain 2 as Actinomucor elegans; the main transformation product A was identified as pinoresinol (Pin) and B as dehydrodiconiferyl alcohol (DA). The biotransformation of EC utilizing Aspergillus niger and Actinomucor elegans is reported for the first time in this study's conclusion, resulting in the production of Pin and DA.

RESUMO

Cancer represents one of the most significant health challenges currently facing humanity, and plant-derived antitumour drugs represent a prominent class of anticancer medications in clinical practice. Isovaleryl sucrose esters, which are natural constituents, have been identified as having potential antitumour effects. However, the mechanism of action remains unclear. In this study, 12 isovaleryl sucrose ester components, including five new (1-5) and seven known compounds (6-12), were isolated from the roots of Atractylodes japonica. The structures of the compounds were elucidated using 1D and 2D-NMR spectroscopy, complemented by HR-ESI-MS mass spectrometry. The cytotoxic activities of all the compounds against human colon cancer cells (HCT-116) and human lung adenocarcinoma cells (A549) were also evaluated using the CCK8 assay. The results demonstrated that compounds 2, 4, and 6 were moderately inhibitory to HCT-116 cells, with IC50 values of 7.49 ± 0.48, 9.03 ± 0.21, and 13.49 ± 1.45 µM, respectively. Compounds 1 and 6 were moderately inhibitory to A549, with IC50 values of 8.36 ± 0.77 and 7.10 ± 0.52 µM, respectively. Molecular docking revealed that compounds 1-9 exhibited a stronger affinity for FGFR3 and BRAF, with binding energies below -7 kcal/mol. Compound 2 exhibited the lowest binding energy of -10.63 kcal/mol to FGFR3. We screened the compounds with lower binding energies, and the protein-ligand complexes already obtained after molecular docking were subjected to exhaustive molecular dynamics simulation experiments, which simulated the dynamic behaviour of the molecules in close proximity to the actual biological environment, thus providing a deeper understanding of their functions and interaction mechanisms. The present study provides a reference for the development and use of iso-valeryl sucrose esters in the antitumour field.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Liver injury is one of the common complications of paraquat (PQ) poisoning, but whether the degree of liver injury is related to patient prognosis is still controversial. This study aimed to investigate whether liver injury was a risk factor for death in PQ-poisoned patients. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of PQ-poisoned patients from the past 10 years (2011-2020) from a large tertiary academic medical centre in China. PQ-poisoned patients were divided into a normal liver function group (n = 580) and a liver injury group (n = 60). Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was then performed. RESULTS: A total of 640 patients with PQ poisoning were included in this study. To reduce the impact of bias, dose of PQ, urinary PQ concentration and time from poisoning to hospital admission were matched between the two groups. A 3:1 PSM analysis was performed, ultimately including 240 patients. Compared with the normal liver function group, patients in the liver injury group were older, had a higher R value ([ALT/ULN]/[ALP/ULN]) (p < .001) and had a higher mortality rate. Cox regression analysis showed that there was no significant association between alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin levels and hazard of death, but age, PQ dose, creatine kinase isoenzyme, creatine kinase, white blood cell count, neutrophil percentage and lymphocyte percentage were associated with mortality in patients with PQ poisoning. CONCLUSIONS: The occurrence of liver injury within 48 h after PQ poisoning was a risk factor for mortality, and such liver injury was likely of a hepatocellular nature. Age, PQ dose, creatine kinase isoenzyme and white blood cell count were positively correlated with mortality, while creatine kinase, percentage of neutrophils and lymphocytes were inversely correlated.

RESUMO

Although Li metal is considered the most potential anode for Li based batteries, the repeatedly large volume variation and low Coulombic efficiency (CE) are still serious challenges for commercial application. Herein, the interconnect closed hollow graphene spheres with electronic-ionic bi-functional conduction network containing Li4.4Sn nanoparticles loaded internally and ß-Li3PS4 solid electrolyte layer coated externally (ß-LPS/SG/Li4.4Sn) is proposed to achieve uniform and dense Li deposition. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation and experimental results show that Li4.4Sn owns larger Li binding energy and lower nucleation overpotential than spherical graphene (SG), thus being able to guide Li traversing and depositing inside the hollow spheres. The Tafel curves, Li+ diffusion activation energy and experimental results reveal that the ß-Li3PS4 coating layer significantly improves the ionic conductivity of the negative skeleton, covers the defect sites on the SG surface, provides continuous ion transmission channels and accelerates Li+ migration rate. The synergy of both can inhibit the formation of dendritic Li and reduce side reaction between freshly deposited lithium and the organic electrolyte. It's found that Li is preferentially deposited within the SG, evenly deposited on the spherical shell surface until it's completely filled to obtain a dense lithium layer without tip effect. As a result, the ß-LPS/SG/Li4.4Sn anode exhibits a long life of up to 2800 h, an extremely low overpotential (∼13 mV) and a high CE of 99.8 % after 470 cycles. The LiFePO4-based full cell runs stably with a high capacity retention of 86.93 % after 800 cycles at 1C. It is considered that the novel structure design of Li anode skeleton with electron-ionic bi-functional conduction is a promising direction to construct long-term stable lithium metal anodes.

RESUMO

Migratory birds experience changes in their environment and diet during seasonal migrations, thus requiring interactions between diet and gut microbes. Understanding the co-evolution of the host and gut microbiota is critical for elucidating the rapid adaptations of avian gut microbiota. However, dynamics of gut microbial adaptations concerning elevational migratory behavior, which is prevalent but understudied in montane birds remain poorly understood. We focused on the Himalayan bluetail (Tarsiger rufilatus) in the montane forests of Mt. Gongga to understand the diet-gut microbial adaptations of elevational migratory birds. Our findings indicate that elevational migratory movements can rapidly alter gut microbial composition and function within a month. There was a significant interaction between an animal-based diet and gut microbiota across migration stages, underscoring the importance of diet in shaping microbial communities. Furthermore, the gut microbial composition of T. rufilatus may be potentially altered by high-altitude acclimatization. An increase in fatty acid and amino acid metabolism was observed in response to low temperatures and limited resources, resulting in enhanced energy extraction and nutrient utilization. Moreover, microbial communities in distinct gut segments varied in relative abundance and responses to environmental changes. While the bird jejunum exhibited greater susceptibility to food and environmental fluctuations, there was no significant difference in metabolic capacity among gut segments. This study provides initial evidence of rapid diet-gut microbial changes in distinct gut segments of elevational migratory birds and highlights the importance of seasonal sample collection. Our findings provide a deeper understanding of the unique high-altitude adaptation patterns of the gut microbiota for montane elevational migratory birds.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Previous research on ABO blood types and stroke has been controversial, predominantly suggesting heightened risk of stroke in non-O blood types. Nonetheless, investigations into the correlation and underlying mechanisms between ABO blood groups and stroke subtypes, especially within Chinese cohorts, remain limited. METHODS: The ABO blood types of 9,542 ischaemic stroke (IS) patients were inferred using two ABO gene loci (c.261G > del; c.802G > A). The healthy population was derived from the 1000 Genomes Project. Patients were classified by the causative classification system (CCS). Volcano plot and gene ontology (GO) analysis were employed to explore protein differential expression among blood types. Additionally, HT29 and SW480 cell lines with downregulated ABO expression were generated to evaluate its impact on cholesterol uptake and efflux. RESULTS: A greater proportion of stroke patients had non-O blood types (70.46%) than did healthy individuals (61.54%). Notable differences in blood type distributions were observed among stroke subtypes, with non-O blood type patients mainly classified as having large artery atherosclerosis (LAA). Clinical baseline characteristics, such as the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol level, activated partial thromboplastin time and thrombin time, varied significantly among blood types. A volcano plot revealed 17 upregulated and 42 downregulated proteins in the O blood type. GO term analysis indicated that downregulated proteins were primarily associated with lipid metabolism pathways. In vitro experiments revealed that reducing ABO gene expression decreased cholesterol uptake and increased cholesterol efflux. CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed that the non-O blood type increased the risk of LAA stroke through cholesterol metabolism.

RESUMO

The anomalous Hall effect (AHE), significantly enhanced by the extrinsic mechanism, has attracted attention for its almost unlimited Hall response, which exceeds the upper limit of the Berry curvature mechanism. However, due to the high conductivity in the clean regime and weak skew scattering, it is a great challenge to obtain large anomalous Hall conductivities and large anomalous Hall angles at the same time. Here, we unveil a new magnetic metal system, EuAl2Si2, which hosts both colossal anomalous Hall conductivity (σAxy ≥ 104 Ω-1 cm-1) and large anomalous Hall angle (AHA >10%). The scaling relation suggests that the skew scattering mechanism is dominant in the colossal anomalous Hall response and gives rise to a large skew scattering constant. The large effective SOC and large magnetic moment may account for this anomaly. Our results indicate that EuAl2Si2 is a good platform to study the extrinsic AHE mechanism.

RESUMO

Chiral spin textures, as exotic phases in magnetic materials, hold immense promise for revolutionizing logic, and memory applications. Recently, chiral spin textures have been observed in centrosymmetric magnetic insulators (FMI), due to an interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (iDMI). However, the source and origin of this iDMI remain enigmatic in magnetic insulator systems. Here, the source and origin of the iDMI in Pt/Y3Fe5O12 (YIG)/substrate structures are deeply delved by examining the spin-Hall topological Hall effect (SH-THE), an indication of chiral spin textures formed due to an iDMI. Through carefully modifying the interfacial chemical composition of Pt/YIG/substrate with a nonmagnetic Al3+ doping, the obvious dependence of SH-THE on the interfacial chemical composition for both the heavy metal (HM)/FMI and FMI/substrate interfaces is observed. The results reveal that both interfaces contribute to the strength of the iDMI, and the iDMI arises due to strong spin-orbit coupling and inversion symmetry breaking at both interfaces in HM/FMI/substrate. Importantly, it is shown that nonmagnetic substitution and interface engineering can significantly tune the SH-THE and iDMI in ferrimagnetic iron garnets. The approach offers a viable route to tailor the iDMI and associated chiral spin textures in low-damping insulating magnetic oxides, thus advancing the field of spintronics.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Data regarding the long-term recurrence in patients with intermediate-risk papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) are limited. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of primary tumor-related risk factors and lymph node (LN)-only risk factors on recurrence-free survival (RFS) in patients with intermediate-risk PTC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with PTC who received initial treatment at our institution between 2010 and 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. A total of 799 intermediate-risk PTC patients were included and further categorized into subgroups according to the different categories of intermediate risk factors. The RFS rates of these subgroups were investigated and compared. RESULTS: Structural recurrence developed in 11 patients (1.4%) of the whole cohort during a median follow-up duration of 96 months. There were no significant differences in RFS between the primary tumor-only risk group and the LN-only risk group, while the combined group of primary tumor risk factors and LN risk factor (metastatic LNs >5) was associated with a worse RFS rate. In the matched-pair analysis, no significant difference in RFS was found between patients who underwent thyroid lobectomy (TL) and those who underwent total thyroidectomy (TT) (6-year RFS: 99.6% vs. 98.8%, P = 0.316) during a median follow-up duration of 100 months. CONCLUSIONS: Intermediate-risk PTC patients who underwent TL had a comparable RFS to those who underwent TT. The combination of primary tumor risk factors and LN risk factor (metastatic LNs >5) may be a useful tool for predicting the risk of long-term structural recurrence in patients with intermediate-risk PTC.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage has a high fatality rate within the initial month after onset. This study determined the safety and therapeutic efficacy of minimally invasive puncture for supra-tentorial intracranial hematoma under C-arm computed tomography (CT) 4-dimensional navigation. MATERIAL AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 64 patients with supra-tentorial cerebral hemorrhage from June 2020 to May 2023; 31 patients were assigned to the study group (C-arm CT navigation puncture) and 33 patients were in the control group (conventional CT-guided puncture). The analysis focused on assessment of puncture error, postoperative complication rate, and the Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores 30 and 90 days after surgery. RESULTS C-arm CT navigation puncture had improved precision, with significantly reduced transverse (3.17±1.75 mm) and longitudinal (1.83±1.21 mm) deviations, compared with the control group (7.88±1.74 mm and 5.50±1.84 mm, respectively; P<0.05). The overall postoperative complication rate was significantly lower in the study group than in the control group (12.90% vs 36.36%, P<0.05). The mean GOS score was higher in the study group than in the control group 30 and 90 days postoperatively (3.42±0.96 and 3.97±0.95 vs 2.94±0.79 and 3.46±0.90, respectively; P<0.05), while the mean NIHSS score was lower in the study group than in the control group 30 and 90 days postoperatively (10.58±6.52 and 5.97±4.55 vs 14.42±8.13 and 9.55±8.31, respectively; P<0.05). RESUMO

High-entropy alloys (HEAs) have aroused extensive attention in the field of catalysis. However, due to the integration of multiple active sites in HEA, it exhibits excessive adsorption behavior resulting in difficult desorption of active species from the catalyst surfaces, which hinders the catalytic efficiency. Therefore, adjusting the adsorption strength of the active site in HEA to enhance the catalytic activity is of great importance. By introducing rare-earth (RE) elements into the high-entropy alloy, the delocalization of 4f electrons can be achieved through the interaction between the multimetal active site and RE, which benefits to regulate the adsorption strength of the HEA surface. Herein, the RE Ce-modified hexagonal-close-packed PtRuFeCoNiZn-Ce/C HEAs are synthesized and showed an excellent electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction with ultralow overpotentials of 4, 7 and 156, 132 mV, respectively, to reach 10 mA cm-2 in 0.5 M H2SO4 and 1.0 M KOH solutions, and the assembled water electrolysis cell only requires a voltage of 1.43 V to reach 10 mA cm-2, which is much better than the performance of PtRuFeCoNiZn/C. Combined with the results of in situ attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT), the fundamental reasons for the improvement of catalyst activity come from two aspects: (i) local lattice distortion of HEA caused by the introduction of RE with large atomic radius induces 4f orbital electron delocalization of RE elements and enhances electron exchange between RE and active sites. (ii) The electronegativity difference between the RE element and the active site forms a surface dipole in HEA, which optimizes the adsorption of the active intermediate by the HEA surface site. This study provides an insightful idea for the rational design of high-performance HEA- and RE-based electrocatalysts.

RESUMO

Amphibians serve as reliable indicators of ecosystem health and are the most threatened group of vertebrates. Studies on their spatial distribution pattern and threats are crucial to formulate conservation strategies. Gongga Mountains, with a peak at 7509 m a.s.l. and running latitudinally, are in the center of the Hengduan Mountains Range and at the eastern steep edge of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, providing heterogeneous habitats and varied niches for amphibians. In this study, we combined 83 days of field work with information from 3894 museum specimens that were collected over the past 80 years, and identified twenty amphibian species belonging to seven families and twelve genera by morphology. Of these species, seven were listed in the threatened categories of the Red List of China's Biodiversity and thirteen were endemic to China. Ten species were found on the plateau side (western slope) and eleven species were found on the other side close to the Sichuan Basin (eastern slope). Only one species was found on both sides, indicating different community structures horizontally. The species richness was unimodal vertically and peaking at mid elevation on both sides, with the maximum number (ten vs. nine) of species occurring at 3300-3700 vs. 1700-1900 m a.s.l. and in different types of vegetation. The elevation span and body length of species distributed on both slopes did not show significant differences. These findings help to understand the horizontal and vertical distribution pattern of amphibian diversity, laying a foundation for future biogeographical and conservation research in this area.
