RESUMO

Growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15) is a member of the transforming growth factor-ß family. GDF-15 is overexpressed in cardiovascular diseases and has become a novel biomarker for these diseases. In this study, we fabricated a label-free electrochemical immunosensor for sensitive detection of GDF-15. Briefly, a three-dimensional braided composite of AuPtCu-SWCNTs@MoS2-rGO (denoted A@M), which served as a label-free immunosensor platform, was obtained by wrapping single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with trimetallic nanoflowers (AuPtCu NFs) woven on a three-dimensional network nanostructure composed of Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets. This optimization improved the ability of the platform to immobilize antibodies, accelerated the reduction of hydrogen peroxide, and promoted the migration rate of electrons on the electrode surface, thereby further amplifying the electrical signal and improving the sensitivity. The constructed sensor exhibited high sensitivity over a wide linear range from 1 pg mL-1 to 50 ng mL-1, with a low detection limit of 0.825 pg mL-1 for GDF-15. The fabricated label-free immunosensor exhibits satisfactory reproducibility, selectivity, and stability. The detection of actual samples was successful, enabling a broad scope of application in the early diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

RESUMO

This study aimed to explore the association between serum non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) and cognitive dysfunction risk in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). This cross-sectional study enrolled 583 AIS patients. Biochemical markers and lipid profile were collected after admission. AIS patients were classified into high group (non-HDL-C ≥3.4 mM) and normal group (non-HDL-C <3.4 mM). Mini-Mental State Examination scale (MMSE), Montreal Cognitive Assessment scale (MoCA), Activities of Daily Living (ADL) scale, Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), and Hamilton Depression scale 21 version (HAMD-21) were applied on the third day after admission. Compared with the control group, patients of the high group had higher body mass index and higher frequency of intracranial artery stenosis, and exhibited higher levels of non-HDL-C, total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, homocysteine, fasting blood glucose, and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and lower levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (all P<0.05). Compared with the control group, patients of the high group had significantly lower MMSE and MoCA scores (MMSE: 26.01±4.17 vs 23.12±4.73, P<0.001; MoCA: 22.28±5.28 vs 20.25±5.87, P<0.001) and higher scores on the NPI and HAMD-21 (both P<0.001). MMSE (r=-0.306, P<0.001) and MoCA scores (r=-0.251, P<0.001) were negatively associated with non-HDL-C level. Multivariate regression analysis revealed that non-HDL-C level (OR=1.361, 95%CI: 1.059-1.729, P=0.016) was independently associated with the presence of cognitive dysfunction after adjusting for confounding factors. High serum non-HDL-C level might significantly increase the risk of cognitive dysfunction after AIS.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to validate the G.LAB MD2231 digital automatic wrist BP monitor according to multiple protocols, which included the European Society of Hypertension International Protocol (ESH-IP) revision 2010, the British Hypertension Society (BHS), and the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI)/the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) protocols. PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: A total of 33 participants were initially included for validation on the basis of the ESH-IP revision 2010, and then the device was further assessed on 85 participants according to the BHS and AAMI/ISO protocols. The validation procedures of the protocols were followed precisely. RESULTS: The G.LAB MD2231 achieved the requirements of the ESH-IP revision 2010 with mean differences of 1.99±5.13 and -0.85±4.83 mmHg for systolic and diastolic BP, respectively. Furthermore, the A/A grade was obtained according to the BHS protocol with mean differences of 2.19±6.89 and -1.03±6.56 mmHg for systolic and diastolic BP, respectively, and the two criteria of the AAMI/ISO were also fulfilled. CONCLUSION: The G.LAB MD2231 digital automatic wrist BP monitor fulfilled the ESH-IP revision 2010, the BHS, and the AAMI/ISO protocols, which can be recommended for BP measurement in the general population.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to validate the Andon KD-5851 upper arm blood pressure (BP) monitor according to the European Society of Hypertension International Protocol (ESH-IP) revision 2010. METHODS: A total of 33 eligible participants were included in the study. Sequential measurements of BPs were performed using a mercury sphygmomanometer and the device, and the data analysis was carried out following precisely the ESH-IP revision 2010. RESULTS: The device had 82, 98, and 99 measurements within 5, 10, and 15 mmHg for systolic blood pressure and 85, 95, and 99 measurements for diastolic blood pressure, respectively. The average device-observer difference was -0.53±4.00 mmHg for systolic blood pressure and -1.15±4.06 mmHg for diastolic blood pressure. The device passed all the criteria according to the ESH-IP revision 2010. CONCLUSION: According to the validation results on the basis of the ESH-IP revision 2010, the Andon KD-5851 upper arm BP monitor can be recommended for self/home measurement in adults.

RESUMO

Gluconobacter oxydans is characterized by its ability to incompletely oxidize carbohydrates and alcohols. The high yields of its oxidation products and complete secretion into the medium make it important for industrial use. We report the finished genome sequence of Gluconobacter oxydans H24, an industrial strain with high l-sorbose productivity.
