RESUMO

Natural hydraulic lime (NHL) is a cementitious material widely used in the restoration of stone cultural relics and maintenance of historic buildings, the practical use of which is mainly hindered by its poor fluidity. Due to the multilayer (double-layer) adsorption that isobutylene-maleic anhydride (IBMA) has on the surface of NHL, the effects that IBMA copolymer have on the fluidity and hydration of NHL were thus investigated. Moreover, the yield stress and plastic viscosity of NHL pastes were found to be reduced significantly by the incorporation of IBMA. Combined with the effects of electrostatic repulsion and steric hindrance, the flocculated structures in NHL pastes were gradually dismantled, releasing the trapped water and leading to a significant enhancement in the fluidity of NHL. IBMA was found to postpone the early hydration of NHL. In particular, it showed that adding specific content of IBMA can significantly improve the early strength of NHL.

RESUMO

Al matrix composite, reinforced with the in situ synthesized 3C-SiC, MgAl2O4, and MgO grains, was produced via the casting process using phenolic resin pyrolysis products in flash mode. The contents and microstructure of the composites' fracture characteristics were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Mechanical properties were tested by universal testing machine. Owing to the strong propulsion formed in turbulent flow in the pyrolysis process, nano-ceramic grains were formed in the resin pyrolysis process and simultaneously were homogeneously scattered in the alloy matrix. Thermodynamic calculation supported that the gas products, as carbon and oxygen sources, had a different chemical activity on in situ growth. In addition, ceramic (3C-SiC, MgAl2O4, and MgO) grains have discrepant contents. Resin pyrolysis in the molten alloy decreased oxide slag but increased pores in the alloy matrix. Tensile strength (142.6 ± 3.5 MPa) had no change due to the cooperative action of increased pores and fine grains; the bending and compression strength was increasing under increased contents of ceramic grains; the maximum bending strength was 378.2 MPa in 1.5% resin-added samples; and the maximum compression strength was 299.4 MPa. Lath-shaped Si was the primary effect factor of mechanical properties. The failure mechanism was controlled by transcrystalline rupture mechanism. We explain that the effects of the ceramic grains formed in the hot process at the condition of the resin exist in mold or other accessory materials. Meanwhile, a novel ceramic-reinforced Al matrix was provided. The organic gas was an excellent source of carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen to in situ ceramic grains in Al alloy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study is to evaluates the hypothesis that Hh pathway activation occurs in the Fah-/- Nod/Scid mice model and plays a role in regulating liver regeneration after functional human hepatocytes xenograft. METHODS: Fah-/- Nod/Scid mice were established in Shandong Cancer Hospital affiliated to Shandong University. Xeno-regeneration of Fah-/- Nod/Scid mice livers was then transplanted by human hepatocytes. Hh signaling pathway associated factors were detected by RT-PCR and western blot. All statistical calculations were carried out using the SPSS.16.0 software. RESULTS: Fah-/- mice were healthy and reproduced normally while treated with NTBC. NTBC-OFF Fah-/- mice with HHT gradually gained weight by six weeks after human hepatocyte transplantation. NTBC-OFF Fah-/- mice causes a progressive increase in ALT, AST, GGT and AP, which were used to monitor hepatocyte inflammation. However, liver function in NTBC-OFF Fah Fah-/- mice with HHT returned to normal. Hedgehog pathway activation and Hh-target genes were enhanced follows human hepatocytes transplantation which indicated liver regeneration associated closely with Hh signaling pathway. Moreover, Hh signaling was inhibited by cyclopamine after HHT. CONCLUSIONS: The current study provides novel evidence that Hedgehog signaling pathway regulation is required for optimal regeneration of NTBC OFF Fah-/- mice with HHT.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) combined with surgery has been implemented as a standard treatment strategy in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). However, there is a wide spectrum of response to nCRT. The aim of this study was to determine whether enhancer of zeste homologue 2 (EZH2 ) expression could predict response to nCRT and outcomes for patients in LARC. METHOD: The study examined the EZH2 expression in 112 biopsies by immohistochemistry. The associations between EZH2 and clinical characters were analyzed. RESULTS: EZH2 expression in biopsy tissue was significantly related to increased tumor cell proliferation, as assessed by Ki-67 expression with a cutoff value of 37% (p <0.001). High EZH2 expression was correlated closely with low differentiation (p = 0.029), high CEA level (p = 0.041), T4 status (p = 0.011) and node metastasis (p =0.045). By univariate and multivariate analysis, we observed low EZH2 expression could reliably and independently predict the good response to nCRT ( p = 0.026 and p = 0.023) and down-staging ( p = 0.021 and p = 0.027). In univariate analysis, high EZH2 expression was significantly associated with poor 5-year disease-free survival (p = 0.025) and 5-year overall survival (p = 0.032). In multivariate analysis, EZH2 was a prognostic factor for 5-year DFS (HR = 2.287; 95% CI 1.137-4.602, p = 0.020) but not for 5-year OS (HR = 2.182; 95% CI 0.940-5.364, p = 0.069). CONCLUSION: Our study revealed that low EZH2 expression in biopsy tissue might be a useful predictive factor of good tumor response to nCRT and longer 5-year DFS in patients with LARC. However this is a relatively small retrospective study, to further validate the role of EZH2 in rectal cancer, large consistent cohort studies are needed.
