RESUMO
Las conductas suicidas son las grandes olvidadas enurgencias, aunque se sabe que suponen un grave problemade salud pública en los países industrializados. Con losobjetivos de conocer las conductas y gestos suicidas y determinarel perfil de estos pacientes, hicimos un estudio descriptivoy prospectivo de los pacientes que llegan al serviciode urgencias del Hospital General de Fuerteventura,presentando algún tipo de conductas o gestos suicidas.Analizamos las historias recogidas durante un año. El estudiode las conductas suicidas implica algunos problemasque condicionan los resultados, infravalorando lamagnituddel problema real. Concluimos que las mujeres son mayoritariasen número de ideas e intentos de suicidio y utilizanmétodos poco cruentos, mientras que son los hombres losquemayor intensidad ponen en sus actos, logrando tasas desuicidio más altas con métodos más violentos. La edadmedia fue de 32 años. Entre los factores desencadenantesdestacaban antecedentes previos de conducta suicidas ytrastornos psiquiátricos, conflictos conyugales o familiares,ser soltero y estar desempleado. Los tiempos de estancia enel servicio superan las doce horas y el destino desde urgenciases el alta domiciliaria o el ingreso en psiquiatría (AU)
Suicidal behavior is not taken much into account in emergencydepartment, although it is known to pose a seriouspublic health problem in industrialized countries. Aiming toascertain suicidal behavior and gestures and determine thesepatients profile, we carried out a descriptive and prospectivestudy of the patients who arrived at emergency departmentin Hospital General de Fuerteventura showing some kind ofsuicidal behavior or gestures. We analyzed medical recordsgathered during a whole year. The study of suicidal behaviorimplies a few problems that affect the results, infravaloratingthe magnitude of the real problem.We conclude that womenare a majority in the amount of suicidal ideas and attemptedsuicides, and use less bloodier methods, whereas it is menwho put greater intensity in their actions, achieving higherrates of suicide with more violent methods. The mean agewas 32. Among the factors are worth mentioning a previoushistory of suicidal behavior and psychiatric disorders, maritalor family conflicts, being single and unemployed. Theaverage stay at emergencies is over 12 hours, and fromemergenciesthe patient is either discharged home or admittedinto the psychiatric wards (AU)
