RESUMO

The United Nations (UN) emphasizes the pivotal role of sustainable agriculture in addressing persistent starvation and working towards zero hunger by 2030 through global development. Intensive agricultural practices have adversely impacted soil quality, necessitating soil nutrient analysis for enhancing farm productivity and environmental sustainability. Researchers increasingly turn to Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to improve crop yield estimation and optimize soil nutrition management. This study reviews 155 papers published from 2014 to 2024, assessing the use of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) in predicting soil nutrients. It highlights the potential of hyperspectral and multispectral sensors, which enable precise nutrient identification through spectral analysis across multiple bands. The study underscores the importance of feature selection techniques to improve model performance by eliminating redundant spectral bands with weak correlations to targeted nutrients. Additionally, the use of spectral indices, derived from mathematical ratios of spectral bands based on absorption spectra, is examined for its effectiveness in accurately predicting soil nutrient levels. By evaluating various performance measures and datasets related to soil nutrient prediction, this paper offers comprehensive insights into the applicability of AI techniques in optimizing soil nutrition management. The insights gained from this review can inform future research and policy decisions to achieve global development goals and promote environmental sustainability.

CD44 and SALL4 are markers of stemness and expressed in cancer stem cells (CSCs). Their deregulated expression was seen in various tumors and has been correlated with clinical severity. We evaluated immunohistochemical expression of CD44 and SALL4 in leukoplakia and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). CD44 was expressed in all the cases of leukoplakia and Its expression correlated with severity of the dysplasia in leukoplakia but varied with differentiation in OSCC. SALL4 did not express in leukoplakia. Its expression was varied in OSCC cases. We opine that CD44 expression is consistent with the progression of dysplasia in leukoplakia and differentiation in OSCC.

Flory's statistical theory (FST) has been employed to estimate the ultrasonic velocity, density, internal pressure, and several important thermophysical parameters such as the energy of vaporization, the heat of vaporization, cohesive energy density, polarity index, and solubility for eight binary mixtures of ionic liquids and water within the temperature range of 288.15 to 308.15 K. The ionic liquids chosen for this investigation are [BMim][dca], [BMim][TfO], [BMpy][TfO], [BMpyr][dca], [BMpyr][TfO], [EEPy][ESO4], [HMim][dca], and [MPy][MSO4]. The predicted values of ultrasonic velocity and density show good agreement with the data reported in the literature. It endorses the applicability of FST to these binary mixtures. A comparative analysis of the internal pressure values (Pi) determined by using FST and the standard thermodynamic approach is also presented. The results obtained for Pi using both approaches show good agreement. Besides, for the mixtures under study, the correlation between ultrasonic velocity, density, and surface tension has also been examined. The variation of thermophysical parameters with concentration and temperature changes has been utilized to explore the nature and strength of the solute-solvent interactions prevalent in these mixtures. It is pointed out that A-A-type interactions dominate over A-B-type interactions in water-rich regions of the mixtures.

Background: In this research study, we delve into the effects of smoking cessation programs on the progression of periodontal disease, particularly focusing on the potential benefits experienced by individuals who successfully quit smoking. Materials And Methods: The research involved the participation of 200 individuals, all of whom were active smokers and exhibited varying degrees of periodontal disease. These participants enrolled in a comprehensive smoking cessation program that included regular counseling sessions and, when necessary, the provision of nicotine replacement therapy to facilitate smoking cessation. Over a 12-month period, the progression of their periodontal disease was systematically monitored through a series of dental check-ups and measurements of critical clinical parameters. These parameters included probing depth (PD), which assesses the spaces between teeth and gums, and clinical attachment level (CAL), which evaluates the attachment of gum tissue to tooth surfaces. Results: After 12 months of active participation in the smoking cessation program, several noteworthy results were observed among the participants. On average, participants experienced a reduction in PD by approximately 1.5 mm, indicating a shallower space between the teeth and gums and, thus, healthier periodontal tissues. In addition, the CAL improved by an average of 1.2 mm, signifying enhanced attachment of gum tissue to the tooth surface, which is essential for dental stability. Participants also exhibited a significant reduction in plaque accumulation on tooth surfaces, indicative of improved oral hygiene practices. Furthermore, gingival inflammation, a common symptom of periodontal disease, notably decreased among participants, suggesting an overall improvement in gum health. Conclusion: In conclusion, this study provides compelling evidence supporting the positive impact of smoking cessation programs on the progression of periodontal disease.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to determine the resistance profile of linezolid-resistant Enterococcus faecium (LREfm) and to investigate risk factors and outcomes associated with LREfm infections. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A prospective case-control study was undertaken (2019 to 2022) and included 202 patients with LREfm infections (cases) and 200 controls with LSEfm infections. Clinical data was prospectively collected and analysed for risk factors and outcomes. Antimicrobial susceptibility was performed, and resistance profile was studied using WHOnet. RESULTS: Risk factors associated with LREfm infection were site of infection UTI (OR 5.87, 95% CI 2.59-13.29, p ≤ 0.001), prior use of carbapenem (OR 2.85 95% CI 1.62-5.02, p ≤ 0.001) and linezolid (OR 10.13, 95% CI 4.13-24.82, p ≤ 0.001), use of central line (OR 5.54, 95% CI 2.35-13.09, p ≤ 0.001), urinary catheter (OR 0.29, 95% CI 0.12-0.70, p ≤ 0.001) and ventilation (OR 14.87, 95% CI 7.86-28.11, p ≤ 0.007). The hospital stay 8-14 days (< 0.001) prior to infection and the mortality rate (p = 0.003) were also significantly high among patients with LREfm infections. Linezolid and vancomycin resistance coexisted; further, MDR, XDR and PDR phenotypes were significantly higher among LREfm. CONCLUSION: This study provided insight into epidemiology of MDR LREfm in a setting where linezolid use is high. The main drivers of infections with LREfm are multiple, including use of carbapenems and linezolid. Invasive procedures and increased hospital stay facilitate spread through breach in infection control practises. As therapeutic options are limited, ongoing surveillance of LREfm and VRE is critical to guide appropriate use of linezolid and infection control policies.

Unsafe abortion refers to induced abortions performed without trained medical assistance. While previous studies have investigated predictors of unsafe abortion in India, none have addressed these factors with accounting sample selection bias. This study aims to evaluate the contributors to unsafe abortion in India by using the latest National Family Health Survey data conducted during 2019-2021, incorporating the adjustment of sample selection bias. The study included women aged 15 to 49 who had terminated their most recent pregnancy within five years prior to the survey (total weighted sample (N) = 4,810). Descriptive and bivariate statistics and the Heckman Probit model were employed. The prevalence of unsafe abortion in India was 31%. Key predictors of unsafe abortion included women's age, the gender composition of their living children, gestation stage, family planning status, and geographical region. Unsafe abortions were typically performed in the early stages of gestation, often involving self-administered medication. The primary reasons cited were unintended pregnancies and health complications. This study underscores the urgent need for targeted interventions that take into account regional, demographic, and social dynamics influencing abortion practices in India.

Horsegram (Macrotyloma uniflorum [Lam.] Verdc.) is an underutilized pulse crop primarily cultivated in South Asian countries like India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. It offers various nutraceutical properties and demonstrates remarkable resilience to both biotic and abiotic stresses. As a result, it has emerged as a promising crop for ensuring future food and nutritional security. The purpose of this study was to assess the nutritional profile of 139 horsegram germplasm lines obtained from 16 Indian states that were conserved at the National Gene Bank of India. Standard analytical methods, including those provided by the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC), were used for this investigation. The study revealed substantial variability in essential nutrients, such as protein (ranging from 21.8 to 26.7 g/100 g), starch (ranging from 26.2 to 33.0 g/100 g), total soluble sugars (TSSs) (ranging from 0.86 to 12.1 g/100 g), phenolics (ranging from 3.38 to 11.3 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAEs)/g), and phytic acid content (ranging from 1.07 to 21.2 mg/g). Noteworthy correlations were observed, including a strong positive correlation between sugars and phenols (r = 0.70) and a moderate negative correlation between protein and starch (r = -0.61) among the studied germplasm lines. Principal component analysis (PCA) highlighted that the first three principal components contributed to 88.32% of the total variability, with TSSs, phytates, and phenols emerging as the most significant contributors. The cluster analysis grouped the accessions into five clusters, with cluster III containing the accessions with the most desirable traits. The differential distribution of the accessions from north India into clusters I and III suggested a potential geographical influence on the adaptation and selection of genes. This study identified a panel of promising accessions exhibiting multiple desirable traits. These specific accessions could significantly aid quality breeding programs or be directly released as cultivars if they perform well agronomically.

Although tumor growth requires the mitochondrial electron transport chain (ETC), the relative contribution of complex I (CI) and complex II (CII), the gatekeepers for initiating electron flow, remains unclear. In this work, we report that the loss of CII, but not that of CI, reduces melanoma tumor growth by increasing antigen presentation and T cell-mediated killing. This is driven by succinate-mediated transcriptional and epigenetic activation of major histocompatibility complex-antigen processing and presentation (MHC-APP) genes independent of interferon signaling. Furthermore, knockout of methylation-controlled J protein (MCJ), to promote electron entry preferentially through CI, provides proof of concept of ETC rewiring to achieve antitumor responses without side effects associated with an overall reduction in mitochondrial respiration in noncancer cells. Our results may hold therapeutic potential for tumors that have reduced MHC-APP expression, a common mechanism of cancer immunoevasion.

BACKGROUND: Bacterial leaf blight (BLB) is one of the major biotic stress in rice cultivation. Management techniques, such as the development of BLB-resistant cultivars, are required to lessen the severity of the disease attack and yield losses. Pratikshya was selected in the present investigation as the recipient parent, as it is one of the popular high-yielding rice varieties of Odisha, India, which is having excellent grain as well as cooking quality. However, Pratikshya is highly susceptible to BLB which is prevalent in Eastern Indian region. METHODS AND RESULTS: Three major BLB resistance genes xa5, xa13, and Xa21 from the donor source Swarna MAS (CR Dhan 800) were attempted to introduce into Pratikshya through a marker-assisted backcross breeding program. Those markers closely linked to the target genes were employed for foreground selection in the segregating generations till BC2F3. In each backcross generation, progenies containing all three targeted resistance genes and phenotypically more similar to the recipient parent, Pratikshya were selected and backcrossed. Screening of 1,598 plants of the BC2F2 population was conducted against BLB using Xoo inoculum and 35 resistant plants similar to Pratikshya were carried forward to the next generation. In the BC2F3 generation, 31 plants were found to possess all the three resistance genes. For background selection of plants carrying resistance genes 45 polymorphic SSR markers were employed. Evaluation of the pyramided lines at BC2F4 generation exhibited that, most pyramided lines were similar to Pratikshya in terms of morphological features and yield parameters, and some lines were superior to the recurrent parent in terms of morphological features and yield parameters. CONCLUSION: The three-gene pyramided lines showed a high level of resistance to BLB infection and are anticipated to offer a significant yield advantage over the recipient parent Pratikshya. The pyramided lines can further be used for multi-location trial, so as to be released as a variety or can be used as a potential donor for BLB resistance genes.

Background: The burden of acute respiratory infections (ARIs) among children under-five is a serious concern in lower and middle-income countries (LMICs), including India, where it is positively associated with indoor smoking exposures. This study re-examines the impact of maternal smoking on ARIs among children under 5 in India, considering other indoor air pollutant factors and covariates. The aim is to establish existing findings and capture any differentials in results using comprehensive analytical approaches. Methods: Data from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), 2019 - 21, was used. Descriptive statistics, bivariate analysis, multivariable logistic regression models, and interaction analysis were applied to accomplish the study objective. Results: The adjusted likelihood of ARI was 1.24 (95% CI: 1.04-1.48) times higher in under-five children with smoking mothers than those with non-smoking mothers. The result was also observed to be almost similar across all seasons. Moreover, the combined effect of maternal smoking with other household members smoking and using unclean cooking fuel without a separate ventilated kitchen escalated the risk (AOR: 2.01; 95% CI: 1.98-2.67). Breastfeeding was found to be a preventive measure for reducing the risk of indoor smoking exposure. The children who were never breastfed and were born large or small were more susceptible to maternal smoking. Conclusion: The study highlights the association between maternal smoking and ARIs in Indian under-five children. Interventions include reducing maternal smoking, promoting breastfeeding, and improving respiratory health in fuel-exposed households.

AIM: The current study's aim was to assess gingival crevicular blood as a noninvasive method to measure blood glucose levels. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The current study comprised a total of 50 patients who had been diagnosed with chronic periodontitis and age was ≥30 years old. The study's procedures were carried out after receiving informed consent. For finger capillary blood collection method, a sterile lancet was used to prick the finger and a drop of blood was taken, for gingival crevicular blood collection method, blood was taken from the gingival margin of the chosen site, and for venous blood collection method with the aid of a disposable syringe, a venous blood sample was taken from the patient's antecubital fossa for determining blood glucose levels. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to examine the differences between the three methodologies' significance, and Karl Pearson's correlation (r) was used to determine their correlation. RESULTS: The maximum glucose level was found in venous blood (187.78 ± 18.23), followed by finger capillary blood (181.88 ± 21.67) and gingival crevicular blood (169.04 ± 11.24). And there was no significant difference between the different blood collection methods (p > 0.05). The positive significant correlation was found between gingival crevicular blood and finger capillary blood (r = 0.912, p < 0.001). Correlation with gingival crevicular blood and venous blood showed a positive correlation (r = 0.898, p < 0.001). Correlation between venous blood and finger capillary blood also showed a strong positive correlation (r = 0.988, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the findings of the current study suggest that blood drawn from the gingival crevicular during a clinical examination may be a great source for glucometric analysis. The gingival crevicular blood may show to be a promising technique for routine dental office screening for diabetes mellitus in periodontal patients, even if capillary/venous blood samples used for diabetes mellitus screening are the gold standard. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Oral health is crucial for the early detection of many systemic disorders. As a result, dentists are crucial in the screening for systemic disorders. One of the prevalent chronic disorders is diabetes. Any systemic disease that is detected early enough can avoid long-term problems.

OBJECTIVE: The study contextualises the spatial heterogeneity and associated drivers of open defecation (OD) in India. DESIGN: The present study involved a secondary cross-sectional survey data from the fifth round of the National Family Health Survey conducted during 2019-2021 in India. We mapped the spatial heterogeneity of OD practices using LISA clustering techniques and assessed the critical drivers of OD using multivariate regression models. Fairlie decomposition model was used to identify the factors responsible for developing OD hot spots and cold spots. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: The study was conducted in India and included 636 699 sampled households within 36 states and union territories covering 707 districts of India. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES: The outcome measure was the prevalence of OD. RESULTS: The prevalence of OD was almost 20%, with hot spots primarily located in the north-central belts of the country. The rural-urban (26% vs 6%), illiterate-higher educated (32% vs 4%) and poor-rich (52% vs 2%) gaps in OD were very high. The odds of OD were 2.7 and 1.9 times higher in rural areas and households without water supply service on premises compared with their counterparts. The spatial error model identified households with an illiterate head (coefficient=0.50, p=0.001) as the leading spatially linked predictor of OD, followed by the poorest (coefficient=0.31, p=0.001) and the Hindu (coefficient=0.10, p=0.001). The high-high and low-low cluster inequality in OD was 38%, with household wealth quintile (67%) found to be the most significant contributing factor, followed by religion (22.8%) and level of education (6%). CONCLUSION: The practice of OD is concentrated in the north-central belt of India and is particularly among the poor, illiterate and socially backward groups. Policy measures should be taken to improve sanitation practices, particularly in high-focus districts and among vulnerable groups, by adopting multispectral and multisectoral approaches.

Purpose: Despite standard preoperative fasting guidelines, children are subjected to prolonged fasting due to various reasons. This does not reduce gastric residual volume (GRV) further, instead causes hypoglycemia, hypovolemia, and unnecessary discomfort. We calculated the cross-sectional area (CSA) of antrum and GRV in children in fasting state and 2 h after intake of oral carbohydrate-rich fluid, using gastric ultrasound. Methods: Anteroposterior and craniocaudal gastric antral diameters were measured by ultrasonography in the right lateral decubitus position, at fasting and at 2 h after 8 ml/kg of pulp-free fruit juice ingestion. CSA of antrum and GRV was calculated using validated mathematical models. Results: Data of 149 children of age >1-12 years were analyzed. Greater than ninety-nine percent of children emptied ≥95% of the ingested pulp-free fruit juice volume within 2 h. One hundred and seven (71.8%) children had reduced CSA and GRV at 2 h after fruit juice ingestion (2.01 ± 1.00 cm2 and 7.77 ± 6.81 ml) as compared to fasting state (3.18 ± 1.40 cm2 and 11.89 ± 7.80 ml). Fourty-nine (28.2%) children had slightly increased CSA and GRV at 2 h after fruit juice (2.46 ± 1.14 cm2 and 10.61 ± 7.26 ml) than at fasting (1.89 ± 0.92 cm2 and 8.61 ± 6.75 ml), but this increased GRV was grossly lower than limit of risk stomach (26.54 ± 8.95 ml). Conclusion: Carbohydrate-rich drink in the form of pulp-free fruit juice may be safely permitted up to 2 h before anesthetic induction, as it promoted gastric emptying in ≈ 72% of children and 28% of children, although GRV was slightly higher at 2 h after fruit juice ingestion than fasting but remained considerably lower than limit of risk stomach.

Industrial areas play an important role in the urban ecosystem. Industrial site environmental quality is linked to human health. Soil samples from two different cities in India, Jamshedpur and Amravati, were collected and analyzed to assess the sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in industrial areas and their potential health risks. The total concentration of 16 PAHs in JSR (Jamshedpur) varied from 1662.90 to 10,879.20 ng/g, whereas the concentration ranged from 1456.22 to 5403.45 ng/g in the soil of AMT (Amravati). The PAHs in the samples were dominated by four-ring PAHs, followed by five-ring PAHs, and a small percentage of two-ring PAHs. The ILCR (incremental lifetime cancer risk) of the soil of Amravati was lower compared to that of Jamshedpur. The risk due to PAH exposure for children and adults was reported to be in the order of ingestion > dermal contact > inhalation while for adolescents it was dermal contact > ingestion > inhalation in Jamshedpur. In contrast, in the soil of Amravati, the PAH exposure path risk for children and adolescents were the same and showed the following order: dermal contact > ingestion > inhalation while for the adulthood age group, the order was ingestion > dermal contact > inhalation. The diagnostic ratio approach was used to assess the sources of PAHs in various environmental media. The PAH sources were mainly dominated by coal and petroleum/oil combustion. As both the study areas belong to industrial sites, the significant sources were industrial emissions, followed by traffic emissions, coal combustion for domestic livelihood, as well as due to the geographical location of the sampling sites. The results of this investigation provide novel information for contamination evaluation and human health risk assessment in PAH-contaminated sites in India.

BACKGROUND: Aphids are sap-sucking insect pests of economic importance. They exhibit polyphenism, producing two kinds of morphotypes; winged (alate) and wingless (aptera) morphs. While wingless morphs can be controlled by insecticides, winged morphs are a challenge for targeted control measures as they can fly. Although colored sticky traps are used to control and monitor winged aphids, only a small population is trapped, making sticky traps less effective in controlling aphids. Studies have shown that fragrant oils applied to sticky traps increased attraction of sap-sucking insects like whiteflies and thrips. Here, we tested selected essential oils for their attractiveness to winged Aphis gossypii in potato fields. RESULTS: In field assays, selected essential oils with yellow or colorless sticky traps attracted more winged A. gossypii than controls. The combination of yellow traps baited with essential oils attracted ~2-3-fold more winged A. gossypii than did colorless traps baited with essential oils. In a multi-cycle 2 year study, yellow sticky traps baited with basil oil consistently attracted more winged A. gossypii than yellow sticky traps baited with lavender, geranium or tea tree oils. In electrophysiological studies, winged A. gossypii's antennae responded consistently to estragole in basil oil. In olfactometer assays with estragole, winged A. gossypii spent significantly more time in the treatment arm of the olfactometer than in the control arm, validating estragole's attractiveness. Furthermore, yellow sticky traps baited with pure estragole, in potato fields, attracted similar number of winged A. gossypii as yellow sticky traps baited with basil oil. CONCLUSION: Our findings demonstrate the potential of using basil oil as a potential attractant to improve the efficacy of sticky traps in the monitoring and control of winged aphids. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Potatoes are developed vegetatively from tubers, and therefore potato virus transmission is always a possibility. The potato leafroll virus (PLRV) is a highly devastating virus of the genus Polerovirus and family Luteoviridae and is regarded as the second-most destructive virus after Potato virus Y. Multiple species of aphids are responsible for the persistent and non-propagating transmission of PLRV. Due to intrinsic tuber damage (net necrosis), the yield and quality are drastically diminished. PLRV is mostly found in phloem cells and in extremely low amounts. Therefore, we have attempted to detect PLRV in both potato tuber and leaves using a highly sensitive, reliable and cheap method of one-step reverse transcription-recombinase polymerase amplification (RT-RPA). In this study, an isothermal amplification and detection approach was used for efficient results. Out of the three tested primer sets, one efficiently amplified a 153-bp product based on the coat protein gene. In the present study, there was no cross-reactivity with other potato viruses and the optimal amplification reaction time was thirty minutes. The products of RT-RPA were amplified at a temperature between 38 and 42 °C using a simple heating block/water bath. The present developed protocol of one-step RT-RPA was reported to be highly sensitive for both leaves and tuber tissues equally in comparison to the conventional reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method. By using template RNA extracted employing a cellular disc paper-based extraction procedure, the method was not only simplified but it detected the virus as effectively as purified total RNA. The simplified one-step RT-RPA test was proven to be successful by detecting PLRV in 129 samples of various potato cultivars (each consisting of leaves and tubers). According to our knowledge, this is the first report of a one-step RT-RPA performed using simple RNA extracted from cellular disc paper that is equally sensitive and specific for detecting PLRV in potatoes. In terms of versatility, durability and the freedom of a highly purified RNA template, the one-step RT-RPA assay exceeds the RT-PCR assay, making it an effective alternative for the certification of planting materials, breeding for virus resistance and disease monitoring.

The healthcare supply chain involves obtaining resources, managing supplies, and delivering goods and services to patients across multiple teams, stakeholders, and geographical boundaries. With such a complex structure, the healthcare supply chain is vulnerable to fraud, inaccurate data, and lack of transparency. These misdeeds cost businesses money and harm health. To address these issues, the health care supply chain needs an end-to-end decentralized track-and-trace system. Most centralized systems risk drug and data safety. This paper presents an Ethereum blockchain-based solution for a health care supply chain track-and-trace mechanism that uses smart contracts and data immutability. Hash functions store data in a public distributed ledger. This protects and discloses data. Smart contracts automate agreement execution so all parties know the outcome instantly, without an intermediary or time loss. It also outlined decentralized healthcare supply chain application architecture and algorithms. This paper proposes a system to address the lack of transparency and tracking in traditional supply chains. The blockchain-based method proposed in this paper runs on Solidity smart contracts. The system's algorithms and methods are tested against a variety of inputs, and the results are presented as an average gas cost for specific functionality. The proposed system tracks goods' histories (medicine). The average gas cost for all accounts is 18,027.2. Overall, log gas costs 48,118.6 to buy medicine, gas costs 229,607.5, and to log out 14,275.The results of the proposed system are compared to state-of-the-art methods. Thus, the presented work allows a seamless flow of medicines via blockchain and smart contracts without intermediaries. Finally, it addresses building a secure pharma supply chain application for blockchain 4.0.

BACKGROUND: In India, the demand for outpatient care is substantially higher than inpatient care among older adults. Therefore, the current study examines the level, patterns, and factors associated with outpatient care use. METHODS: The present research used data from the first wave of the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI, 2017-18). A total of 34,588 older adults (45 years and above) who accessed outpatient healthcare services in one year prior to the survey were included in this study. A bivariate chi-square test was applied to present the percentage distribution of types of outpatient healthcare utilization by background characteristics and healthcare responsiveness. Multinomial logistic regression analyses were employed to explore the interplay of outpatient healthcare utilization and allied predisposing, enabling, and need factors. RESULTS: About 63.7% of total older adults used a private facility, followed by 22.8% used a public facility, and 13.5% used other facilities. Years of schooling, household wealth status, place of residence, self-rated health, and health insurance were all found to be significant determinants of public or private facility use. In contrast, respondents' sex was found to be a significant determinant of private healthcare use only. The study finds that there was inadequate healthcare reaction to public health facilities. CONCLUSION: The current study revealed that the use of private facility for outpatient care is noticeably high in India. Older adults' educational attainments, health insurance coverage, and household level economic background were found to be significant factors in healthcare choice. The current study emphasizes the need to strengthen public healthcare services for outpatient care.

Manipulation of insect vector behavior by virus-induced plant volatiles is well known. But how the viral disease progression alters the plant volatiles and its effect on vector behavior remains less explored. Our studies tracked changes in volatile profile in progressive infection stages of cotton leaf curl virus (CLCuV) infected plants and their effect on B. tabaci behavior. Significant differences in virus titers were noticed between progressive infection stages showing distinct symptoms. Whiteflies initially settled on CLCuV infected plants, but their preference was shifted to healthy plants over time. GC-MS analysis revealed subtle quantitative/qualitative changes in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) between the healthy and selected CLCuV infection stages. VOCs such as hexanal, (E)-2-hexen-1-ol, (+)-α-pinene, (-)-ß-pinene, (Z)-3-hexen-1-ol, (+)-sylvestrene, and (1S,2E,6E, 10R)-3,7,11,11-tetramethylbicycloundeca-2,6-diene (Bicyclogermacrene) were associated with the infection stage showing upward curling of leaves; (E)-2-hexen-1-ol, ß-myrcene, ß-ocimene, and copaene were associated with the infection stage showing downward curling. Validation studies with eight synthetic VOCs indicated that γ-terpinene elicited attraction to B. tabaci (Olfactometric Preference Index (OPI) = 1.65), while ß-ocimene exhibited strong repellence (OPI = 0.64) and oviposition reduction (66.01%-92.55%). Our studies have demonstrated that progression of CLCuV disease in cotton was associated with dynamic changes in volatile profile which influences the behavioural responses of whitefly, B.tabaci. Results have shown that VOCs such as (+)-α-pinene, (-)-ß-pinene γ-Terpinene, α-guaiene; 4- hydroxy- 4 methyl-2- pentanone and ß-ocimene emitted from Begomovirus infected plants could be the driving force for early attraction and later repellence/oviposition deterrence of B. tabaci on virus-infected plants. The findings of this study offer scope for the management of whitefly, B. tabaci through semiochemicals.

Introduction: India is one of the largest countries which is inhabited by diverse populations of different tribes, castes, religious, and migrant groups. In forensic investigation, personal identification plays the greatest importance. Lip prints are considered as one such tool for personal identification. Study of lip prints is referred to as cheiloscopy and they are considered as unique in every individual just like fingerprints. Materials and Methods: Three hundred randomly selected specimens were taken in our study comprising of both the genders and of various regions from Odisha, West Bengal (WB) and Bihar was considered in the study. The age selected in our study ranged from 18 to 25 years comprising of 151 males and 149 females. Lip impression was made and viewed for different lip prints pattern under a magnifying glass of 10X. Results: There was a total of six lip print type identified in the present study. The type of lip print pattern found more in males was Type 2 and in females was Type 1. The type of lip print pattern found more in Bihar and WB was Type 2 and Odisha was Type 1. Conclusion: As the lip print is unique for every individual, Cheiloscopy is considered as a useful method of identification in forensic odontology. The study showed statistically significant difference in gender with a variation in geographical location.
