RESUMO

The pure conjugated polyarylene azomethine (CPAA) and its nanocomposites (CPAA-TiO2) with different concentrations of TiO2 nanoparticles were successfully prepared by in-situ technique and analyzed by different advanced techniques. XRD has confirmed the structural properties and crystallinity of (CPAA) and nanocomposites. The SEM clearly shows that the (CPAA) is uniform and homogeneous, with tightly connected aggregate layers in shape. However, the amount of TiO2 in the nanocomposites greatly affects their morphology, revealing structural differences and indicating a reaction between (CPAA) and TiO2, especially at a higher concentration of 5% TiO2. A new composite of (CPAA) was introduced and the photocatalytic effect for MB was studied. The removal efficiency of (pure-CPAA) over MB dye under simulated sunlight was 62%. However, (CPAA-TiO2 1%) destroyed 90% of MB dyes. It was discovered that the low band gap of (CPAA-TiO2 1% (2.84 eV)) accelerates high electron-hole recombination, increasing photocatalytic activity.

RESUMO

In this work, a new and effective polymeric coating is used to improve mild steel's corrosion resistance. The coating incorporates a Schiff base moiety into a benzoxazine (BZ) precursor, resulting in improved protection against corrosion. The SF-Tol-BZ polymerization behavior and thermal properties were studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermalgravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively, at different curing temperatures. The poly(SF-Tol-BZ) cured at 240 °C had a Td10 value of 604 °C and a Tg of 225 °C. The efficacy of poly(SF-Tol-BZ) coatings in protecting mild steel (MS) from corrosion in a NaCl (3.5%) solution at room temperature was evaluated using various corrosion measurements, including open circuit potential (OCP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results showed that increasing the poly(SF-Tol-BZ) concentration led to a corresponding increase in its protective efficiency, reaching a maximum of 92% at a concentration of 300 g/L. The coatings also exhibited a 24-fold increase in Rct values and a one-order-of-magnitude reduction in CPE compared to the bare mild steel. Finally, the poly(SF-Tol-BZ) precursors demonstrated a CO2 uptake of 23 mg g-1 (measured at 298 K).

RESUMO

Modifying the metal surface is one solution to the industry's growing corrosion problem. Thus, via threading approach and insertion of copolymers (CoP5-7) containing polyarylidenes through the internal cavity beta-cyclodextrin ß-CD, novel pseudopolyrotaxanes copolymers (PC5-7) are developed, resulting in mild steel corrosion inhibition. Inhibitors of corrosion based on ß-CD molecules adsorb strongly to metal surfaces because of their many polar groups, adsorption centers, many linkages of side chains, and benzene rings. The corrosion inhibition efficiencies IE % statistics have been revised via the Tafel polarization method and Spectroscopy based on the electrochemical impedance (EIS), with PC7 achieving the highest 99.93% in 1.0 M H2SO4; they are mixed-type inhibitors. The chemical composition of the resulting PCs is determined with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is utilized to examine the morphological structure of the produced polymers, and X-ray diffraction is employed to identify crystallinity. Encapsulating CoP5-7 with ß-CD changes the morphological structures and increases the generated PCs' crystallinity. The thermal stability of PCs is studied, indicating the presence of these CoPs within the ß-CD cavities enhances their thermal stability. This research will be a stepping stone for developing high-efficiency anti-corrosion coatings and various industrial applications.

RESUMO

In this study, we utilized salicylaldehyde (SA) and p-toluidine (Tol-NH2) to synthesize 2-(Z)[(4-methylphenyl)imino]methylphenol (SA-Tol-SF), which was then reduced to 2-[(4-methylphenyl)amino]methylphenol, producing SA-Tol-NH. SA-Tol-NH was further reacted with formaldehyde to create SA-Tol-BZ monomer. Poly(SA-Tol-BZ) was produced by thermally curing it at 210 °C, after synthesizing it from SA-Tol-BZ. The chemical structure of SA-Tol-BZ was analyzed using various analytical techniques such as FT-IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and 13C NMR spectroscopy TGA, SEM, DSC, and X-ray analyses. Afterward, we applied the obtained poly(SA-Tol-BZ) onto mild steel (MS) using thermal curing and spray coating techniques. To examine the anticorrosion attributes of MS coated with poly(SA-Tol-BZ), electrochemical characterization was employed. The study proved that poly(SA-Tol-BZ) coating had a high level of effectiveness in preventing corrosion on MS, with an efficacy of 96.52%, and also exhibited hydrophobic properties.

RESUMO

In this study, 2-[(E)-(hexylimino)methyl] phenol (SA-Hex-SF) was synthesized by adding salicylaldehyde (SA) and n-hexylamine (Hex-NH2), which was subsequently reduced by sodium borohydride to produce 2-[(hexylamino)methyl] phenol (SA-Hex-NH). Finally, the SA-Hex-NH reacted with formaldehyde to give a benzoxazine monomer (SA-Hex-BZ). Then, the monomer was thermally polymerized at 210 °C to produce the poly(SA-Hex-BZ). The chemical composition of SA-Hex-BZ was examined using FT-IR, 1H, and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray Diffraction (XRD), respectively, were used to examine the thermal behavior, surface morphology, and crystallinity of the SA-Hex-BZ and its PBZ polymer. Mild steel (MS) was coated by poly(SA-Hex-BZ) which was quickly prepared using spray coating and thermal curing techniques (MS). Finally, the electrochemical tests were used to evaluate the poly(SA-Hex-BZ)-coating on MS as anti-corrosion capabilities. According to this study, the poly(SA-Hex-BZ) coating was hydrophobic, and corrosion efficiency reached 91.7%.

RESUMO

This study aims to develop an alternating polyketone containing cationic groups in one and four alternating positions for increased functionality. A novel polyarylidene ketone was synthesized using simple condensation polymerization of terephthaldehyde and 2,5-hexane dione (PAK) The physicochemical properties of the resulting polymer were evaluated using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, UV-Visible absorbance, fluorescence, and SEM investigations. The findings show that the polymer is amorphous, has good thermal stability, and emits red light. It can also be used as a dye adsorbent in aqueous solutions, with high selectivity for the cationic dye methylene blue (MB). The adsorbent efficiency of PAK was measured as a function of pH, dosage, and initial dye concentration; the greatest dye removal of 96 % was obtained at pH 10, 50 mg dosage, and initial dye concentration of 20 ppm. Kinetics and isotherms were studied, showing that the pseudo-second-order model described kinetic data better than Freundlich and Langmuir and revealed a satisfactory chemisorption process. This study suggests that PAK can purify MB dyeing wastewater, remove Zn2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Cd2+, Fe3+ metal ions well, and is selective for Fe3+ and Cu2+; ion adsorption is chelating-based.

RESUMO

Intestinal parasitism is the main cause of disease all over the world and described as a significant community health problem. The current study intended to find out the occurrence and identification of hazard factors linked with IPIs among 4-12 years aged shool-age children residing in Lower Dir district, Pakistan during 2019 - 2020. A cross-sectional school-based study was conducted using a pre-arranged pre-tested survey. Anthropometric data and stool collection were done to obtain the findings. The direct wet mount preparation in saline/iodine/methods was used for stool examination. Data were investigated using the GraphPad Prism 5. A total of 400 children studied (mean age of 8.6±3.6 years) the total incidence rate for the intestinal parasitic disease was established to be 71.75%. Of the 400 children studied, the overall prevalence rate for intestinal parasitic infections was found to 71.75% Ascaris lumbricoides (33.1%), Trichuris trichiura (1.04%), E. vermicularis (1.39%), Hookworm (19.86%) were identified in children living in the study area. We concluded that there is a mass scale campaigns were required to generate alertness about health and sanitation in children and the need for the development of effective poverty control programs because deworming (killing of worm with drugs) alone is not adequate to control parasitic infections.

RESUMO

To develop innovative mesoporous crosslinked poly(azomethine- sulfone)s with environmental applications, a simple Schiff base condensation technique based on barbituric acid BA or condensed terephthaldehyde barbituric acid TBA in their structures as monomeric units are applied. Different analysis methodologies and viscosity measurements identify them as having stronger heat stability and an amorphous structure. The photophysical features of the multi stimuli response MSR phenomenon are observable, with white light emission at higher concentrations and blue light emission at lower concentrations. Their emission characteristics make them an excellent metal ions sensor through diverse charge transfer methods. They can have a better inhibition efficiency and be employed as both mixed-type and active corrosion inhibitors according to their fluorescence emission with metals, demonstrating their capacity to bind with diverse metals. The adsorption of two distinct dye molecules, Methylene blue MB cationic and sunset yellow SY anionic, on the mesoporous structures of the polymers is investigated, revealing their selectivity for MB dye adsorption. Quantum studies support these amazing discoveries, demonstrating a crab-like monomeric unit structure for the one that is heavily crosslinked.

RESUMO

The objective of this present research is to use agricultural residues as a source of energy for heating greenhouses during winter seasons and sequestrating soil carbon dioxide through adding biochar to the soil media. To fulfill the objective of the research work, summer squash was transplanted in a constructed greenhouse and heated using an attached biomass-burning system. The performance of the attached biomass-burning system was experimentally studied under different agricultural residues (corn stalks, cotton stalks and okra stalks), heating fluids (water and oil) and air fan operating periods (10, 15 and 20 min/h). Results indicated that the biomass-burning system allowed increasing temperature and relative humidity inside the greenhouse up to 27.2 and 80 %, respectively. The maximum biomass-burning system efficiency of 81 % was achieved with the use of okra stalks as a source of energy and oil as a heating fluid side by side with adjusting the suction fan operating period at 15 min/h. Adding bio-charcoal to the soil media, enhanced the soil carbon, resulting in a total fresh yield of 3.7 and 2.9 kg/pot with a total number of leaves per plant of 55 and 47 leaves under conditions of with and without charcoal addition, respectively.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Radiotherapy is the most common regimen for treating human cancers; however, ionizing radiation (IR) has hazardous effects on metabolically active organs such as the liver. AIM: This study aimed to investigate the possible protective (prophylactic and therapeutic) action of taurine against liver damage induced by gamma irradiation at different time intervals as well as the mechanisms by which taurine could provide its potential amelioration actions. METHODS: In this study, 90 adult male rats (∼150 g) were randomly divided into five groups. Group 1 is the control group, group 2 received an oral daily dose (500 mg/kg) of taurine for two weeks, group 3 was exposed to a whole-body single dose of γ-irradiation (6 Gy), and groups 4 and 5 received taurine before or after γ-irradiation, respectively. Six rats from each group were sacrificed after 1, 2, and 3 weeks. RESULTS: Over the period of the 3 weeks studied, there were significant increases in MDA, NO, TNF-α, and cytochrome-c levels and ALT, caspases-9 and -3 activities and significant decreases in GSH, SOD, CAT, and GPx in the irradiated group when compared with the relevant control. The liver of irradiated rats showed dilatation in the central and portal veins, edema, and degenerated hepatocytes. CONCLUSIONS: Taken together, IR caused maximum devastation in the liver 2 weeks after exposure as shown by elevation of the inflammatory and apoptotic markers and reducing the antioxidants. Taurine was able to alleviate the deleterious biochemical and histological effects whether given before or after IR. The magnitude of the observed protective effects was in both cases very similar.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons multicenter taskforce studying proximal humerus fractures reached no consensus on which outcome measures to include in future studies, and currently no gold standard exists. Knowledge of commonly used outcome measures will allow standardization, enabling more consistent proximal humerus fracture treatment comparison. This study identifies the most commonly reported outcome measures for proximal humerus fracture management in recent literature. METHODS: A systematic review identified all English-language articles assessing proximal humerus fractures from 2008 to 2018 using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Review articles, meta-analyses, revision surgery, chronic injuries, studies with <15 patients, studies with <12 month follow-up, anatomic/biomechanical studies, and technique articles were excluded. Included studies were assessed for patient demographics and outcome scores, patient satisfaction, complications, range of motion, and strength. RESULTS: Of 655 articles, 74 met inclusion criteria. The number of proximal humerus fractures averaged 74.2 per study (mean patient age, 65.6 years). Mean follow-up was 30.7 months. Neer type 1, 2, 3, and 4 fractures were included in 8%, 51%, 81%, and 88% of studies, respectively. Twenty-two patient-reported outcome instruments were used including the Constant-Murley score (65%), Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand score (31%), visual analog scale pain (27%), and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons score (18%). An average of 2.2 measures per study were reported. CONCLUSION: Considerable variability exists in the use of outcome measures across the proximal humerus fracture literature, making treatment comparison challenging. We recommend that future literature on proximal humerus fractures use at least 3 outcomes measures and 1 general health score until the optimal scores are determined.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) is frequently performed in the revision setting as a salvage procedure. The purpose of this study was to report the clinical outcomes and complication, reoperation, and revision rates after revision RSA (RRSA) stratified according to the primary shoulder procedure undergoing revision. METHODS: Four databases (Embase, MEDLINE, SPORTDiscus, and Cochrane Controlled Trials Register) were searched for eligible studies published between January 1985 and September 2017. The primary outcomes of interest included pain, active range of motion, and functional outcome scores. Secondary outcomes included complication, reoperation, and revision rates. RESULTS: A total of 43 studies (1041 shoulder arthroplasties) met the inclusion criteria, with a mean follow-up period of 43.8 months (range, 31.1-57.2 months). Pain scores improved in all groups; however, none reached statistical significance. Range of motion improved in all groups, except for external rotation in the RSA category. RRSA demonstrated significant improvements in the Simple Shoulder Test score and Constant score (CS) in the group undergoing hemiarthroplasty (HA) for fracture, CS in the group undergoing HA for other indications, and CS in the group undergoing anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty. Pooled complication rates were highest in the failed RSA group (56.2%), followed by the group undergoing HA for other indications (27.7%), total shoulder arthroplasty group (23.6%), soft-tissue repair group (20.6%), open reduction and internal fixation group (19.0%), and group undergoing HA for fracture (13.6%). CONCLUSIONS: Compared with other revision indications, RRSA for failed HA demonstrated the most favorable outcomes, whereas the highest complication and revision rates were observed in the RSA subgroup. This information is useful when establishing patient expectations regarding the risks, benefits, and complication and revision rates of RRSA.

RESUMO

Extrahepatic hydatid disease has been reported in several locations, including the pelvis, and it often poses a diagnostic challenge. There are very few reported cases of primary perineal ischio-anal fossa hydatid cysts. We present a case of a 46-year-old female who had complained of painless left perianal mass for 8 months. The first clinical and radiological diagnosis was a cystic lesion of the perianal region. However, surgical and pathological examination revealed the diagnosis of hydatid disease of ischio-anal fossa. The patient underwent surgical excision. At 1-year follow-up, the patient was disease-free. Hydatid disease of the perianal area, although rare, must be kept in the differential diagnosis of pathologies of any perianal mass or lump.

RESUMO

Placental growth factor (PlGF) is produced by tumor cells and stimulates tumor growth and metastasis in part by upregulation of hypoxia inducible factor HIF1α. Orchestration of tumor cell proliferation and migration involves oscillations of cytosolic Ca2+ activity ([Ca2+]i). The [Ca2+]i oscillations could be accomplished by triggering of intracellular Ca2+ release followed by store-operated Ca2+-entry (SOCE). Mechanisms accomplishing SOCE include the pore-forming ion channel unit Orai1 and its regulator STIM1. The present study explored whether PlGF influences the expression of Orai1 and STIM1, as well as SOCE and whether this effect impacts on HIF1α expression. To this end, ovary carcinoma cells were cultured for 24 h without and with PlGF (10 ng/ml). Orai1, STIM1 and HIF1α transcript levels were quantified utilizing RT-PCR and Orai1, STIM1 and HIF1α protein levels by Western blotting. [Ca2+]i was estimated from Fura-2-fluorescence and SOCE from increase of [Ca2+]i following Ca2+ re-addition after Ca2+-store depletion with extracellular Ca2+ removal and sarcoendoplasmatic Ca2+-ATPase (SERCA) inhibitor thapsigargin (1 µM). As a result, exposure of ovary carcinoma cells to PlGF was followed by a significant increase of Orai1 as well as STIM1 transcript and protein levels. PlGF significantly increased store-operated Ca2+-entry following re-addition of extracellular Ca2+, an effect virtually abrogated by Orai1 inhibitor MRS1845 (10 µM). PlGF further increased HIF1α transcript and protein levels, an effect again significantly blunted by MRS1845 (10 µM). In conclusion, PlGF upregulates expression of both, Orai1 and STIM1 thus enhancing store-operated Ca2+-entry with subsequent upregulation of HIF1α.

RESUMO

N,N`-Bis[(1,2-didehydro-1-hydroxy-2-thioxopyrid-4-yl)-carbonyl]- L-lysine (HTPL) is a novel newly synthesized compound intended to be used for the chelation of lead in intoxicated animals. Subchronic lead intoxication experiments were carried out on Wistar male rats; these rats were intoxicated with lead and then treated with HTPL. Results were compared with those obtained with known compounds used for lead chelation therapy, such as disodium ethylnediaminetetraacetic acid (CaNa2EDTA) and meso-2,3-dimercaptosuccininc acid (DMSA), using different routes of administration. Biological samples of whole blood and urine were collected and analyzed for urinary proporphyrins, δ-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase, and zinc protoporphyrin. Results revealed that HTPL can remarkably reverse the toxic effects of lead intoxication at biochemical levels. Additionally, results showed that this agent is as good or even more potent than calcium disodium ethylnediaminetetraacetic acid (CaNa2EDTA) and meso-2,3-dimercaptosuccininc acid (DMSA) in reversing the toxic effect of lead. More importantly, HTPL was found effective when administrated intraperitoneally and orally.

RESUMO

Exposure to ionizing radiation (IR) is inevitable since over 80% of total average exposure comes from natural sources. Brain is vulnerable to the deleterious effects of IR. Therefore, scientists paid attention in identifying novel compounds to protect against radiation-induced brain injury. Adult male albino rats weighing 120-150 g were divided into five groups, 18 rats each. Group 1 served as control, group 2 received an oral daily dose of taurine (500 mg/kg) for 2 weeks. Group 3 was exposed to a whole body single dose of γ-irradiation (6 Gy). Groups 4 and 5 received taurine before and after γ-irradiation, respectively. Six rats from each group were sacrificed after 1, 2 or 3 weeks. Throughout the 3 weeks studied, there were significant increases in MDA, NO, TNF-α levels, and Cytochrome-c and activities of Caspases -9 and -3 and significant decreases in GSH, SOD, CAT and GPx in the irradiated group when compared with the relevant control. Cerebral cortex of irradiated rats showed vacuolization and nuclear pyknosis in the neuronal cells and focal gliosis. Taurine administration pre- or post-irradiation significantly ameliorated all these previous effects. Taurine had antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic effects and ameliorated the histopathological changes in brain in a time-dependent mode.

RESUMO

A new category of thermally stable hybrid polyarylidene(azomethine-ether)s and copolyarylidene(azomethine-ether)s (PAAP) based on diarylidenecycloalkanones has been synthesized using solution polycondensation method. For potential cationic sensor development, a thin layer of PAAP onto a flat glassy carbon electrode (GCE, surface area: 0.0316 cm2) was prepared with conducting nafion (5%) coating agent to fabricate a sensitive and selective arsenic (III) [As3+] ion in short response time in neutral buffer system. The fabricated cationic sensor was measured the analytical performances such as higher sensitivity, linear dynamic range, detection limit, reproducibility, and long-term stability towards As3+ ions. The sensitivity and detection limit were calculated as 2.714 µAµM-1cm-2 and 6.8 ± 0.1 nM (SNR of 3; 3N/S) respectively from the calibration curve. This novel approach can be initiated a well-organized route of an efficient development of heavy selective arsenic sensor for hazardous pollutants in biological, environmental, and health care fields. Real sample analysis for various environmental sample was performed with PAAP-modified-GCE.
