RESUMO

Some molecular-biological and genetic concepts of development of schizophrenia are discussed. The main attention is paid to the ontogenetic aspect of dopaminergic disturbances and to role of risk factors, including stress, responsible for interaction between the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems during development of schizophrenia.

RESUMO

A possibility is discussed of use of methods of non-linear dynamics for analysis of spontaneous EEG and if the EEG caused by low acoustic stimuli in healthy people and in patients with epilepsy. A use of methods of non-linear dynamics--the fractal dimension of EEG--in clinical practice and in research is described.

RESUMO

Polysomnograms of two patients with catatonic form of schizophrenia of different duration of the disease were recorded and analyzed. Pronounced disorders of the wakefulness-sleep cycle (WSC) were revealed. Apart from differences connected with duration of the disease and treatment with corresponding medications, there were detected the general features indicating dissolution of the central nervous system and the very wakefulness-sleep cycle. A certain similarity of the found WSC disturbances with the earlier shown WSC disturbances in rats with predisposition to catalepsy was noted. The conclusion is made about domination of diencephalic influences over the telencephalic one in the studied patients.

RESUMO

Factors functionally similar or even identical to interleukin-1 (IL-1) and interleukin-2 (IL-2) were found in the tissues of human embryo. These factors were found to be in reciprocal interrelationship. No activity of colony-stimulating factor was found in materials of cerebral origin. A high level of activity of the IL-2 was observed in the CSF of epileptic patients. The data obtained suggest a participation of lymphokines in the mechanisms of cellular cooperation in the brain as well as in proliferative processes underlying progressing diseases of the central nervous system.

RESUMO

Clinical course of severe long-lasting (8 to 31 years) forms of epilepsy were observed in 12 patients. Stereotaxic techniques applied, all the patients exhibited improvement in their clinical state. Seizures were abolished in 2 patients, epileptic psychosis in some others. Reduced were the personality changes characteristic of epilepsy. A large-scale clinical introduction of the technique (when indicated) is suggested as well as its earlier use after onset of the disease.
