RESUMO
The paper describes the problem of heterogeneous databases, discusses the need for an integrated hospital information system and provides a five-step method for integrating heterogeneous databases in the hospital environment. The scope of this method facilitates the integration of medical, administrative and fiscal information elements of a hospital into a unified environment.

The antispermatogenic effect of niridazole was studied in 20 bilharzialmale patients. Niridazole was found to induce defective spermatogenesis in the form of focal spermatocyte arrest and or germinal cell hypoplasia. The effect was transient, with active recovery occurring 3 months after therapy. Niridazole therapy must be postponed or changed for those subjects whose semen parameters prove to be subfertile.

The fine structure of the respiratory nasal mucosa in cases of systemic scleroderma was studied in 5 patients. The cilia were absent in all the sections examined, and the epithelium showed characteristic morphological details. Absence of the mucous elements in the sero-mucinous glands was noticed with evidence of increased activity of the serous units. The capillaries and small arterioles showed severe changes. Electron-dense deposits were seen within the various constituents of the nasal mucosa. It was assumed that the characteristics of the disease are dependent on individual reactivity of a genetically determined immune system stimulated by an undetermined factor.
