RESUMO

EEG was used to study stable dominant states in 12 patients with sluggish forms of schizophrenia and 11 alcoholics. The control group consisted of 15 normals. The patients demonstrated the following traits : deviations in the EEG readings, reflecting the interaction of different cortical zones; a complex of signs indicative of changes in the development of a generalized, nonspecific component of the activation reaction compared to data of the control group; a certain rigidity in the dominant-subdominant relationships. In reduction of the pathological symptomatology and under the impact of unloading, dietic therapy (hunger) there were positive changes in the parameters characterizing the reaction of activators as well as differences in the EEG-correlations of 2 selected types of dominant states.

RESUMO

Neurophysiological studies in psychiatry have two trends: study of the mechanisms of normal and abnormal brain actvity and the use of the neurophysiological techniques to diagnose brain function in different mental pathology. The essential progress of both trends is based on the wide use of computers and mathematical analysis during recent decade. The drawback of the present state of clinical neurophysiology is its inadequate interrelation with the trends and concepts of experimental neurophysiology.

RESUMO

Memory, attention and emotional reactivity in comparison to indices of catecholamine and serotonin metabolism were studied in 25 children from 7 to 10 years with the minimal psychoorganic syndrome during aminalon treatment. According to the excretion indices the activity equilibrium of catecholamines and serotonin were changed and were accompanied by disturbances of memory, attention and emotional reactivity. An improvement of these indices during treatment corresponded to a normalization of the activity in these systems. Questions concerning the signficance of disturbed metabolism of biogenic amines in the pathogenesis of the psychoorganic syndrome are discussed.

RESUMO

The authors studied EMG features in epileptic patients during conditions of an exacerbation of the disease and in remissions. A wide spectrum of motor disorders was detected during the intraparoxysmal period in the stage of an exacerbation of the disease: along with changes of the tonic muscle activity in calm conditions there is a disturbance of the tonic reaction in preparing voluntary movement. The accomplishment and completion of the motor function is also altered. Changes in the relationships of muscles antogonists in an isometric tension depends upon the lateralization of the epileptical focus. In left-side foci there is an asymmetry of the EMG with expressed changes of its parameters on the contralateral right hand, while the right side foci led to symmetrical disturbances of the EMG on both sides, but less expressed. In patients with therapeutical remissions ther are no constant changes of the EMG, although according to the EEG the focus of convulsive activity remains.
