RESUMO

In this paper, field trial on optical code division multiplexing through the commercial-used fiber line is presented. We fabricated fiber Bragg grating en/decoders with time-spreading and wavelength-hopping scheme, considering environmental fluctuation of transmission fiber. 200 km-long transmission of 2-channel x 10 Gb/s signals was achieved on the field photonic network test bed of JGN II. Error free transmission was demonstrated in real field deployed single-mode transmission fiber.

RESUMO

The detailed design process and experimental results of stacked multilayer diffractive optical elements are reported for an optical network unit used in optical subscriber-network applications. The optical network unit accepts two incoming light beams of 1.3- and 1.55-microm wavelengths through a single-mode optical fiber. A laser diode is also placed for bidirectional communications. The optical network unit consists of five diffractive optical elements that perform the following functions: collimation of incoming beams, focusing of the outgoing 1.55-microm beam, 3-dB splitting of the 1.3-microm beam, focusing of the 1.3-microm beam onto the photodiode, and collimation of the light emitted from a laser diode. Possible cost reductions as a result of mass production and the ease of alignment of the stacked diffractive optical elements could be ideal for constructing low-cost optical network units.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of hybrid material compounded with periodontal ligament cells on human teeth and porous hydroxyapatite. As the first step, we tried to produce hybrid materials compounded with periodontal ligament cells and porous hydroxyapatite, and to observe the attachment and invasion of periodontal ligament cells porous hydroxyapatite. Human periodontal ligament cells which had been scraped off the root with a disposable blade were cultured at 37 degrees C in alpha-MEM plus 10% fetal calf serum. The culture cells were attached to the porous hydroxyapatite in vitro. After 3 and 14 days of incubation, the specimens were fixed in gluteraldehyde and examined using SEM. Other specimens were embedded in paraffin and successive specimens were prepared for to remodelling of the attachment and invasion. Many cells attached to the P-HAP granules, and some cells invaded the P-HAP granules. The results suggest that when these hybrid materials are implanted in bone defects, the cells remain in the defect for a certain period, and exhibit the functions and characteristics of itself.
