RESUMO

Multi-wavelength continuous-wave (CW) Raman lasers in a laser diode pumped Yb:YAG/Nd3+:YVO4 microchip Raman laser have been demonstrated for the first time to our best knowledge. The multi-wavelength laser of the first Stokes radiation around 1.08 µm has been achieved with a Raman shift of 261 cm-1 for a-cut Nd:YVO4 crystal corresponding to the fundamental wavelength at 1.05 µm. Multi-wavelength laser operation simultaneously around 1.05 and 1.08 µm has been achieved under the incident pump power between 1.5 and 1.7 W. Multi-wavelength Raman laser with frequency separation of 1 THz around 1.08 µm has been obtained when the incident pump power is higher than 1.7 W. The maximum Raman laser output power of 260 mW at 1.08 µm is obtained and the corresponding optical-to-optical conversion efficiency is 4.2%. Elliptically polarized fundamental laser and linearly polarized Raman laser were observed in an Yb:YAG/Nd:YVO4 CW microchip Raman laser. The experimental results of linearly polarized, multi-wavelength Yb:YAG/Nd:YVO4 CW microchip Raman laser with adjustable frequency separation provide a novel approach for developing potential compact laser sources for Terahertz generation.

RESUMO

Thermally induced depolarization and thermal lens of three Konoshima Chemical Co. laser-ceramics samples Yb(3+):Lu(2)O(3)(C(Yb) ≈ 1.8 at.%), Yb(3+):Y(2)O(3)(C(Yb) ≈ 1.8 at.%), and Yb(3+):Sc(2)O(3) (C(Yb) ≈ 2.5 at.%) were measured in experiment at different pump power. The results allowed us to estimate the thermal conductivity of the investigated ceramic samples and compare their thermo-optical properties. The thermo-optical constants P and Q and its sign measured for these materials at the first time.

RESUMO

CW and mode-locked laser operation based on an Yb3+:Y2O3 ceramic thin disk is reported. In CW laser operation, an output power of 70 W with an optical-to-optical efficiency of 57.4% was achieved. A higher slope efficiency of 70% was also obtained with a 50-W pump laser diode with more suitable emission characteristics. In mode-locked laser operation, pulses as short as 547 fs with an average power of 7.4 W were obtained. To our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of a high power CW and mode-locked laser operation based on Yb3+:Y2O3 ceramic thin disks.

RESUMO

A Raman laser based on a bulk silicon single crystal with 1.127 µm emission wavelength is demonstrated. The Si crystal with 30 mm length was placed into an external cavity and pumped by a Q-switched Nd:YAG master oscillator power amplifier system. Strong defocusing of the pump and Raman laser beam by free carriers was compensated by an intracavity lens. Raman laser operation with a pulse duration of 2.5 ns was identified by a Raman laser threshold significantly lower than the single-pass stimulated Raman-scattering threshold. Linear absorption losses of the 1.06415 µm pump radiation are strongly reduced by cooling the Si crystal to a temperature of 10 K.

RESUMO

Diode-pumped Kerr-lens mode-locked laser operation of Yb(3+):Lu(2)O(3) and nondoped Y(2)O(3) combined ceramics has been achieved; 65 fs pulses with an average power of 320 mW under 5 W of pump power were obtained at the center wavelength of 1032 nm. The spectral bandwidth and the time bandwidth product were 18.9 and 0.345 nm, respectively. To our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of a Kerr-lens mode-locked laser operation based on Yb(3+):Lu(2)O(3) ceramic.

RESUMO

Optical properties of Yb:Y(3)Sc(2)Al(3)O(12) crystal were investigated and compared with those from Yb:YAG crystals. The broad absorption and emission spectra of Yb:Y(3)Sc(2)Al(3)O(12) show that this crystal is very suitable for laser-diode pumping and ultrafast laser pulse generation. Laser-diode pumped continuous-wave and passively Q-switched Yb:Y(3)Sc(2)Al(3)O(12) lasers with Cr(4+):YAG crystals as saturable absorber have been demonstrated for the first time. Continuous-wave output power of 1.12 W around 1032 nm (multi-longitudinal modes) was measured with an optical-to-optical efficiency of 30%. Laser pulses with pulse energy of over 31 microJ and pulse width of 2.5 ns were measured at repetition rate of over 12.7 kHz; a corresponding peak power of over 12 kW was obtained. The longitudinal mode selection by a thin plate of Cr(4+):YAG as an intracavity etalon was also observed in passively Q-switched Yb:Y(3)Sc(2)Al(2)O(12) microchip lasers.

RESUMO

Diode-pumped Kerr-lens mode-locked laser operations of Yb3+:Sc2O3 ceramics have been achieved. 92 fs pulses with the average power of 850 mW under 3.89 W incident pump power were obtained at a center wavelength of 1042 nm. The optical-to-optical efficiency was 21.9%. 90 fs pulses with the average power of 160 mW were also obtained at a center wavelength of 1092 nm. To our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of a Kerr-lens mode-locked Yb3+:Sc2O3 laser.

RESUMO

An efficient passively Q-switched Yb:LuAG microchip laser with Cr4+:YAG as saturable absorber was demonstrated for the first time to our knowledge. Slope efficiencies of 40% and 28% were measured for the initial transmission of Cr4+:YAG, T(0)=95% and 90%, respectively. Laser pulses with a pulse energy of 19 microJ and a pulse width of 610 ps at the repetition rate of 12.8 kHz were achieved for T(0)=90%; the corresponding peak power of over 31 kW was obtained. The lasers oscillated at two or three longitudinal modes owing to the broad emission spectra of Yb:LuAG and mode selection by Cr4+:YAG thin plate acting as an intracavity etalon.

RESUMO

Laser performance of heavy-doped Yb:YAG ceramics was investigated using a two-pass pumping miniature laser configuration. Slope efficiency of 52% and optical-to-optical efficiency of 48% have been achieved for 1-mm-thick YAG ceramic doped with 20 at.% ytterbium ions. Laser spectra of Yb:YAG ceramic and single-crystal lasers were addressed under different intracavity laser intensities. Heavy-doped Yb:YAG ceramic is more suitable for a thin disk laser than a single-crystal with the same Yb(3+)-ion lasants.

RESUMO

Efficient laser-diode pumped picosecond self-Q-switched all-ceramic composite Yb:YAG/Cr(4+):YAG microchip lasers with 0.72 MW peak power has been developed. Lasers with nearly diffraction-limited beam quality (M(2) < 1.09), oscillate at stable single- and multi- longitudinal-modes due to the combined etalon effects in the Yb:YAG and Cr(4+):YAG parts of its binary structure.

RESUMO

Polycrystalline infrared and polarized FT-Raman spectra have been measured for 2-adamantylamino-5-nitropyridine, a novel organic material for laser Raman converters. The assignment of IR and Raman bands is given on the basis of DFT calculations. The spectroscopic studies have not indicated the presence of any significant intermolecular interactions in the crystal structure of this compound. The lines observed in the stimulated Raman spectrum of this crystal are assigned to the respective molecular vibrations.

RESUMO

Passively Q-switched ceramic Nd3+:YAG lasers with ceramic Cr4+:YAG saturable absorbers are demonstrated. When the lasers are pumped by a 1-W cw laser diode, optical-optical efficiency as great as 22% is obtained with Cr4+:YAG of initial transmission ranging from 94% to 79%. The results are similar to those in their crystalline counterparts. The operation of Brewster's angle and the polarization state of the laser output are also investigated.

RESUMO

A second-Stokes Raman laser based on PbWO4 with a 1.316-microm wavelength pumped by an approximately 120-ps Nd:YAG laser at 1.06415 microm scattered at 901 cm(-1) phonon was developed. High-reflection mirrors for the Stokes wavelength were used. The maximum output energy was 0.85 mJ. The conversion efficiency increased with crystal length of 40-100 mm up to 30%. The spatial beam profile was smooth, and the Raman laser emission lasted for approximately 18 ns. New stimulated Raman scattering lines from a phonon at 323 cm(-1) were observed.
