In this study, some phytochemical properties of six seeded raisin species that are mainly cultivated in Southeastern Anatolia were investigated. Additionally, some physical and quality characteristics, phenolic contents (by LC-MS/MS; Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass/Mass Spectrometer System), anticholinesterase, and antioxidant capacities (DPPH; 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free-radical scavenging, ABTS; 2,2-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid cation-radical scavenging activity and CUPRAC; cupric reducing antioxidant capacity) of the cultivars were investigated on ground raisins. In all three methods, the antioxidant activity values of seed extracts were determined to be higher than those of leaf and pulp extracts. Remarkably, the seed extract of Banazi Siyahi showed the highest antioxidant activity in ABTS (IC50 : 4.35±0.02â µg/mL), DPPH (IC50 : 10.78±0.78â µg/mL), and CUPRAC (A0.5: 9.33±0.45â µg/mL) methods. Additionally, the ethanol extracts of all pulp samples showed higher anticholinesterase activity against acetyl-(AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) enzymes than galantamine. According to the LC-MS/MS results, catechin (21.362â mg analyte/g extract) and epicatechin (44.667â mg analyte/g extract) found to be quite rich in Kerküs seed extract and isoquercitrin (116.873â mg analyte/g extract) and astragalin (31.915â mg analyte/g extract) detected to be quite rich in Banazi Siyahi leaf extract. Considering the mineral content of the varieties and the soil samples they grow in, all of the grape varieties analyzed in the study was found to be rich. Based on these findings, it might be suggested that Banazi Siyahi and Kerküs varieties have potential to be utilized in pharmaceutical and food industries, due to their contents of catechins, isoquercitrin and astragalin.

BACKGROUND: We aimed to search whether alpha angle, a radiological clue used in the diagnosis of femoroacetabular impingement, is correlated with the presence of hip pain, internal rotation angle, and impingement test results on hip impingement patients (CAM type). METHODS: Medical records of 334 patients (156 women, 178 men) with an average age of 33.8 ± 8.4 (range 20-50) years were retrospectively studied for the alpha angle of the hip measured on magnetic resonance images (MRI). Hip pain and internal rotation angles as well as results of impingement tests were reviewed. RESULTS: Hip pain was reported more frequently on the right side (n = 35, 10.5%) compared to the left side (n = 22, 6.6%) (p = 0.047). No difference was observed between the right and left sides regarding alpha angles (p = 0.145), internal rotation angles (p = 0.637), or positivity of impingement test (p = 0.210). Internal rotation angles were significantly higher in cases without hip pain (p < 0.001) and in patients with negative impingement test result (p < 0.001). Internal rotation angle correlated positively with age and negatively with the alpha angle. Alpha angle was increased in cases that report pain, those with an internal rotation angle <20°, or cases with positive impingement test. The pain was more common, internal rotation angle was higher, and positivity for impingement was more frequent if the alpha angle was <55°. Patients with hip pain or positive impingement test or internal rotation angle <20° had increased alpha angles (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The pain, impingement test results, and internal rotation angle seem to be associated with alpha angle of the hip measured on MRI in hip impingement patients.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the relationship between medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury and degree of internal tibial torsion in patients who had undergone arthroscopic resection due to tears in the posterior one third of the medial meniscus. METHODS: Seventy-one patients were allocated into two groups with respect to foot femur angle (FFA) and transmalleolar angle (TMA) (Group 1 31 patients with FFA<8° and Group 2 40 patients with FFA≥8°). The groups were compared in terms of valgus instability, Lysholm score, magnetic resonance view, FFA, and TMA, both before and after the operation. RESULTS: Lysholm scores were higher in Group 2 at both postoperative week 1 (p<0.001) and month 1 (p=0.045) relative to Group 1. Preoperative cartilage injury was encountered more frequently in Group 1 (p=0.037) than in Group 2. MCL injury was detected more frequently in Group 1 compared to Group 2 postoperatively at week 1 (p=0.001). CONCLUSION: We conclude that FFA and TFA, indicators of internal tibial torsion, may serve as markers for foreseeing clinical improvement and complications following arthroscopic surgery. Wild grapevine genetic diversity in southeast Turkey has not been documented to date. In the present work, in order to clarify the relationships between wild and cultivated grape accessions from southeastern Turkey, 22 nuclear and three chloroplast microsatellite loci were used on 21 wild grapevine Vitis vinifera L. ssp. sylvestris (Gmelin) and 13 cultivated grapevine Vitis vinifera ssp. sativa accessions. The number of alleles per SSR locus ranged from 4 (VVIn16) to 20 (VVIv67) and the mean allele number per locus was 10.09. Expected locus heterozygosity ranged from 0.586 (locus VVIb01) to 0.898 (locus (VVIv67)). The three cpSSR molecular markers presented variation in size both in cultivars and in wild Turkish accessions. Two size variants were detected for cpSSR3 (106 and 107 bp) for cpSSR5 (104 and 105 bp), and for cpSSR10 (115 and 116 bp). The six alleles in wild grapevines fell into three haplotypes B, C and D. A genetic structure according to accessions taxonomic status (wild or cultivated) was revealed by UPGMA analysis. This highlighted a clear separation between domesticated and wild accessions in Turkish germplasm. The results pointed out the need to further collect and characterize this wild and cultivated grapevine germplasm.
