RESUMO

Overweight and obesity are one of public health's major problems in the world. Conservative treatment with exercise, diet and pharmacotherapy is often ineffective, especially in the long term. Bariatric surgery is the gold standard method for a sustained long-term weight loss. Recently the endovascular technique of bariatric artery embolization (BAE) has been studied as an obesity and overweight treatment, with promising results. The goal of this article is to analyze the rationale behind BAE and to provide an up-to-date analysis of its strengths and limitation in comparison with bariatric surgery as a treatment for obesity.

RESUMO

Neurovascular involvement is a frequent occurring reported in COVID-19 patients. However, spontaneous hematomas of the corpus callosum are exceptionally seen. The authors of this article aim to report an unusual case of corpus callosum hematoma in a COVID-19 patient and discuss potential etiologies and mechanisms responsible for intracranial hemorrhage.

RESUMO

Nowadays, the knowledge of vascular abnormalities is essential for all specialists in their clinical practice and may prevent serious complications through early interventions. Nutcraker syndrome is caused by left renal vein (LRV) compression, usually occurring in the fork formed by the abdominal aorta and the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) and leading to the narrowing of the aortomesenteric portion of the left renal vein and to the dilatation of its distal portion. Symptoms are dominated by lumbar, abdominal, pelvic pain and haematuria. Diagnosis is essentially based on modern imaging tests (computed tomography (CT) scan, Doppler-ultrasound, phlebography) and treatment is controversial. We here report the case of a 43-year-old woman, admitted with epigastric pain associated with pelvic heaviness following nutcraker syndrome requiring radiological screening on admission.

RESUMO

With the major spread of SARS-COV-2 around the world, its association with various pathologies has been reported. However, hemopathy has rarely been revealed during a coronavirus infection. The authors of this article aim to emphasize the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges faced while treating COVID/hemopathy patients.
