The author presents a case of hereditary disease with polycystic kidneys and hepatic fibrosis complicated by portal hypertension.

[Osteogenon in therapy of distal radial bone fractures in patients with secondary osteoporosis].

AIM: To assess efficacy of osteogenon in consolidation of solitary fractures of distal part of the radial bone (RB) in patients with secondary osteoporosis (SO) due to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and chronic renal failure (CRF). MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study group consisted of 7 patients with documented RA and 8 patients with CRF caused by chronic glomerulonephritis or chronic pyelonephritis in the predialysis period. The control group comprised 13 patients (6 and 7 patients, respectively). The patients were matched by clinico-demographic and therapy characteristics. Patients of the study group received osteogen from the fracture diagnosis to its consolidation. RESULTS: Osteogenon has an analgetic effect, improves well being, raises physical activity, reduces duration of fracture consolidation in patients with SO.

[Addison-Biermer disease combined with chronic posthemorrhagic iron-deficiency anemia (dimorphic anemias)]. / Bolezn' Addisona--Birmera v sochetanii s khronicheskoi postgemorragicheskoi zhelezodefitsitnoi anemiei (dimorfnye anemii).

The paper reports 7 cases of dimorphic anemia, development of Addison-Biermer disease in preexisting chronic posthemorrhagic anemia. The authors consider some diagnostic and therapeutic aspects. It is thought valid to discontinue iron preparations prior to vitamin B12 therapy and to start them again upon the arising reticulocytic crisis.

[The functional status of the cardiovascular system in the late period after the combined therapy of patients with lymphogranulomatosis]. / Funktsional'noe sostoianie serdechno-sosudistoi sistemy v otdelennye sroki posle kompleksnoi terapii u bol'nykh limfogranulematozom.

The study included 127 patients with lymphogranulomatosis confirmed histologically. The patients were exposed to total or subtotal irradiation of lymph nodes and 6 cycles of polychemotherapy (COPP). Before the treatment and once a year after it all the patients were examined for defects in the cardiovascular function. Radiation pericarditis was found in 0.79% of the patients, acute coronary death occurred in 3 (2.8%) patients. At 3-11-year follow-up persistent changes in the cardiovascular parameters were noted only in older patients or those with cardiovascular disorders at the moment of the therapy. The authors think that feasibility of cardiac damage in lymphogranulomatosis patients is exaggerated and that reduction of radiation dose and COPP intensity is not valid in patients under 40.

[The characteristics of iron metabolism in B12-deficient anemias (an evaluation of the functional status of megaloblastic erythropoiesis)]. / Osobennosti obmena zheleza pri B12-defitsitnykh anemiiakh (k otsenke funktsional'nogo sostoianiia megaloblastnogo éritropoéza).

The review of the literature data and the evidence obtained on 85 own patients with B12-deficiency anemia concerning iron metabolism underlie 3 variants proposed by the authors: pronounced manifestations of secondary sideroachresia before B12 therapy, utilization iron deficiency upon B12 introduction, dimorphic anemia (development of megaloblastic erythropoiesis in prior iron deficiency). The causes of megaloblastic erythropoiesis incompetence (slow rate, hemolytic component, secondary sideroachresia) are discussed.

[The characteristics of the postsplenectomy hyperthrombocytic syndrome in patients with chronic myeloleukemia]. / Ob osobennostiakh postsplenéktomicheskogo gipertrombotsitarnogo sindroma u bol'nykh khronicheskim mieloleikozom.

One of the clinical features of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) after splenectomy lies in the development of an unusual hyperthrombocytic syndrome. In the course of a long-term observation, 12 out of 14 patients subjected to splenectomy demonstrated maximum thrombocytosis ranging from 1.008 X 10(9) to 3.053 X 10(9)/l. Hemorrhagic manifestations occurred in 6 patients, no thromboses were recorded. Postsplenectomy hyperthrombocytosis is to a certain measure resistant to cytostatic therapy. Dissociation may occur--good readings of the leukogram with a high hyperthrombocytosis. According to the authors' and reported data, the postsplenectomy hyperthrombocytic syndrome in ALL patients is fraught with the danger of the occurrence of hemorrhagic manifestations and, to a less degree, of thromboses.

[Potential for the cytochemical study of CSF smears in the determination of neuroleukemia variants]. / O vozmozhnosti tsitokhimicheskogo issledovaniia likvornykh mazkov dlia opredeleniia variantov neiroleikemii.

The cytochemical test for PAS-positive material in CSF smears can be used for identification of leukemic cells of the lymphoid line. Qualitative smears were obtained from the CSF by the sedimentation method. Five patients were examined. A very suggestive case is described. The cytochemical studies of CSF smears help diagnose neuroleukemia and evaluate the treatment efficacy.
