[Lipid peroxidation and the antioxidant system in the therapeutic effect of hypobaric hypoxia in patients with neurologic manifestations of lumbar osteochondrosis]. / Perekisnoe okislenie lipidov i antioksidantnaia sistema v lechebnom éffekte gipobaricheskoi gipoksii u bol'nykh s nevrologicheskimi proiavleniiami poiasnichnogo osteokhondroza.

The hypobaric therapeutic effect dependence on the initial state of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and on its short-term activation after 3-4 sessions has been shown. The peroxidation action of hypobaric therapy (HBT) was consistent with a substantial increase of the correlation coefficient and regression between diene conjugates (DC) and tocopherol as well as a decrease of ascorbic acid and glutathione peroxidase activity. LPO activation did not take place in patients without changes in the clinical symptoms. Clinical improvement was shown by 94% of patients with the initial content of DC less than 2 o. u/ml. At higher DC values the therapeutic effect was lacking in 50% of cases and in 14% of cases where HBT was employed in combination with unithiol++. The normal level of LPO did not require the use of antioxidants in HBT. Recommendations have been made for differentiated use of HBT and of HBT plus antioxidants. The role of the prooxidant action of HBT in the formation of adaptation mechanisms is discussed.

ADP-induced aggregation of platelets in the presence of chlorin E6 under the action of visible light depending on the pigment concentration and the time of light action was studied. It was shown that the photosensitized effect of chlorin E6 on the platelet-enriched plasma results in platelet aggregation inhibition.

The effect of hydrogen peroxide on ADP-induced platelet aggregation in the presence of active oxygen species scavengers was studied. It was shown that the superoxide radical and singlet oxygen, alongside with hydrogen peroxide, may play a role in platelet interactions.

[Structural-functional state of platelets at the initial stage of aggregation]. / Issledovanie strukturno-funktsional'nykh sostoianii trombotsitov na nachal'noi stadii agregatsii.

ADP-induced changes of light transmission of platelet suspension were studied with a laser aggregometer at concentration variation of both cells and aggregation agents. It was shown that a decrease of light transmission of platelet suspension was due to structure-morphological changes of platelets and pseudopodia formation. An investigation method of platelet aggregation with a small content of cells in the solution permits to fix distinctly the stages of the platelet structural states in the processes of stimulation and aggregation.

Thrombin-induced time-dependent alteration of light-transmission was studied in platelet suspensions with varying pH in calcium-free media, and in the presence of calcium ions. It has been shown that thrombin-induced platelet aggregation and preaggregation stage character are determined by the pH-dependent structural and functional state of the platelet membrane systems.

[Role of glycosaminoglycans in the pathogenesis of vertebral osteochondrosis (clinico-experimental study)]. / O roli glikozaminoglikanov v patogeneze osteokhondroza pozvonochnika (kliniko-éksperimental'nye issledovaniia).

Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and their fractions were measured in relation to age. The material for examination consisted of labile intervertebral disks (27 cases) obtained during operations for discogenic lumbosacral radiculites and disks obtained from people (n = 35) who had died in accidents. The findings showed marked deviations in the total GAGs and their fractions in labile disks, which differed from age-specific changes. The changes revealed in animals with cholesterol atherosclerosis (50 rabbits) and chronic papain degeneration (56 rabbits) resembled those characteristic of vertebral osteochondrosis. It is concluded that degenerative dystrophic changes in osteochondrosis may be induced by both atherosclerotic process and an elevated activity of lysosome enzymes.

Chemoluminescence induced by thrombin and aggregation of thrombocytes as well as effect of aspirin on the reactions were studied. Intensity of thrombin-induced chemoluminescence correlated with accumulation of malonic dialdehyde and hydroperoxides in cells. Chemoluminescence of thrombocytes appears to occur after the thrombin stimulation of cyclooxygenase pathway of arachidonic acid oxidation in cells.

[pH-dependent conformational changes in thrombocyte proteins]. / pH-zavisimye konformatsionnye izmeneniia v belkakh tombotsitov.

A study was made of the medium pH influence on structural states of platelets by optical methods. Within the pH range (6-8), two pH induced reversible changes of platelet state were observed. A conclusion is made that the structural rearrangements in platelets induced in the medium by changes in hydrogen ion concentration may involve some rearrangements in platelet proteins, and thus acting as a factor regulating platelet function.

[Lipid peroxidation and development of dystrophic changes in the intervertebral disks during atherosclerosis]. / Perekisnoe okislenie lipidov i razvitie distroficheskikh izmenenii v mezhpozvonkovykh diskakh pri ateroskleroze.

Lipoproteins of intervertebral discs, spinal cord and blood were studied spectrofluorimetrically in experimental atherosclerosis. Lipoproteins and hydroperoxides accumulated in the intervertebral discs under dystrophic conditions. Blood serum lipoproteins were involved in pathogenesis of these atheromatous impairments in the intervertebral discs. Content of lipoproteins in the discs might be normalized by means of diet-fasting therapy.

[Quinone-reducing activity of thrombocytes]. / Khinonredutsiruiushchaia aktivnost' trombotsitov.

NAD/P/H: quinone-oxidoreductase activity was determined in human thrombocytes using spectrophotometric and polarographic methods. Detergents, vitamins K3 and K1, ADP-induced aggregation of the thrombocytes were shown to affect the thrombocytic guinone-reductase activity. Possible localization of quinone-reductase in thrombocytes and its importance for the state of thrombocytic membrane are discussed.

[Artificial arterial hypotension during surgical treatment of intracranial aneurysms]. / Iskusstvennaia arterial'naia gipotoniia pri khirurgicheskom lechenii vnutricherepnykh anevrizm.

In studying the content of lactic and pyruvic acids in the cerebrospinal fluid of 31 patients during operation for intracranial aneurysms under halothane anesthesia, the authors established that the performance of these operations under protection of deep (40 mm Hg) and prolonged (up to 2 hrs 25 min) artificial arterial hypotension in an uncomplicated course of the surgical intervention was not attended with hypoxic damage of the brain. The danger of hypoxia developing became greater when acute disturbances of blood flow in the cerebral arteries (clipping of a vessel, spasm) occurred in the period of hypotension.

[Alteration of several indices of carbohydrate metabolism in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid following surgery on patients with intracranial aneurysms]. / Izmeneniia nekotorykh pokazatelei uglevodnogo obmena v krovi i spinnomozgovoi zhidkosti pri operatsiiakh u bol'nykh s vnutricherepnymi anevrizmami.

The content of the lactic acid (LA) and pyruvic acid (PA) was determined pre- and postoperatively in the arterial blood and CSF of 31 patients with intracranial aneurysms. A considerable elevation of the concentration of LA and PA was noted along with an increasing LA/PA in the CSF of patients with symptoms of ischaemic damage of the brain. During surgery under fluothane narcosis these patients also demonstrated a distinct elevation of the LA level along with an increasing LA/PA ratio. In the CSF the growing content of glycolysis metabolites was not accompanied by LA/PA changes. The employment of artificial hypotension had no important effect upon the changes of these parameters in the CSF.

In thrombocytes of patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic insult a transformation in the isozyme spectrum of lactate dehydrogenase was observed without an alteration in the reaction rate. In this case LDH3 was decreased and LDH1 and LDH4 were increased. The correlation was not found between the type of insult and the character of the isozyme spectrum. The alterations were considered as an adaptive mechanism and the reflected the extent of immediate or intermediate effect of ischemia on thrombocytes.
