RESUMO
A complete volar dislocation of the metacarpophalangeal joint of a ring finger occurred in a 31-year-old man and was successfully treated by a closed reduction. We found only six cases of volar metacarpophalangeal joint dislocation reported in the literature all of which needed open reduction.

Tension band arthrodesis was performed on five metacarpophalangeal and 10 proximal interphalangeal joints of the hand. This technique provides the advantage of firm internal fixation with two pins and a wire, thereby permitting early active motion of the adjacent joints. Bony union was achieved in all 15 joints.

A definitive surgical procedure for a giant cell tumor that combines metacarpal resection with an iliac bone graft and arthroplasty with a silicone rubber implant is proposed for the elderly patient. The results were encouraging in one patient who had a cosmetically and functionally acceptable hand and no evidence of recurrence.

A 10-year-old boy sustained a severe distal radius and ulna epiphyseal fracture-dislocation, Salter type II, with entrapment of the median nerve and the flexor pollicis longus tendon. Nerve function was intact before reduction and is normal 1 year after open reduction.

Distal interphalangeal joint dislocations of the fingers are uncommon but easily reducible. Irreducible dislocations are quite rare and treatment of such a case is being reported here. Causes of irreducibility have been found to be: volar plate interposition, protrusion of the middle phalanx through the joint capsule, and flexor tendon displacement over the middle phalanx. When these situations occur open reduction is indicated.
