RESUMO

The functional status of humans may be safely, rapidly, and objectively assessed by evaluating the functional, morphological, and cytogenetic characteristics of buccal epitheliocytes. Three categories of the functional status were distinguished in students aged 19-20. The first category was denoted as the norm or health and comprised 30% of examined students. The second category is borderline state, comprising 53% examinees. The third category is risk group or predisease, to which 17% of students were referred. This method is recommended for population screenings.

RESUMO

A comparative study was made of the biological activity of red (632.8 nm) and violet (430.5 nm) laser radiation with respect to the reproductive system status of exposed animals. Distinctions were noted in the response of the biological system to the applied effects. Possible mechanisms of the processes observed are discussed.

RESUMO

Concentrations of RNA and SH-groups were determined in pyramidal neurons of somatosensory cortex of the intact cats and after epileptiform activity induced by electrical stimulation. The mean concentrations of RNA and of SH-groups and the Fisher information exponent were calculated in different zones of the pyramidal neuron cytoplasm zone of the apical dendrite and that of the axon departure. With epileptiform activity, RNA and SH-group contents and the information exponent were seen decreased. The most significant changes were localized in the axon departure zone.

RESUMO

The work is devoted to an unusual distribution of large neurons of the ganglionic layer of the retina in the cow and horse-in the shape of double systems. The cells forming the double system are referred to the morphological type of alphacells comprising the minority of the total number of all ganglionic cells, being found mainly in peripheral parts of the retina. The methods used were silver impregnation, cytological, histochemical and biometrical techniques. General morphological parameters are established with relatively close disposition of perikaryons from one another. Functional mutual substitution of "twin-cells" of adaptational character is supposed resulting from the necessity of rapid and exact visual analysis.

RESUMO

A new principle of taxonomy was used for determination of the spaceal character of the neuron cortex associations based on RNA and SH-group contents. The experiments were performed on the intact cat's somatosensory cortex, and after epileptiform activity induced by electrical stimulation. In the intact cortex, the neuronal mosaic of metabolic activity (determined by RNA and SH-group contents) was meshed, whereas in the hemisphere with epileptiform activity this mosaic was formed by less numerous but larger groups of cells. The functional significance of these groups is discussed.

RESUMO

In the cat somatosensory cortex intact and after epileptiform activity induced by electric stimulation, neurons formed groups on the basis of similarity of their RNA contents. The highest degree of grouping was observed during the epileptiform cortical activity. Functional significance of these groupings is discussed.
