Effects of dyadic discrepancy in awareness of mild cognitive impairment on changes in care partner's burden over time.

Objectives:This study explored interpersonal aspects of coping with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), focusing on how shared illness representations between persons with MCI (PwMCI) and their care partners (CPs) are associated with CP perceived burden.Method:Longitudinal data from a purposive sample of 69 MCI care dyads were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, intraclass correlations, and regression analyses.Results: CP perceived their PwMCI's deficits in MCI-related functions as more negative than PwMCI rated themselves, but the extent of the discrepancy varied across cognitive and behavioral abilities. The discrepancy in dyadic appraisal of PwMCI functioning was associated significantly with CP burden.Conclusion: The findings highlight the value of shared PwMCI and CP perspectives on cognitive functioning for MCI management and psychological adjustment.

Investigation for Thermoelectric Properties of the MoS2 Monolayer-Graphene Heterostructure: Density Functional Theory Calculations and Electrical Transport Measurements.

We investigated the thermoelectric (TE) properties of the MoS2 monolayer-graphene heterostructure which consists of the MoS2 monolayer and graphene. The electronic structures of the MoS2 monolayer-graphene heterostructure are mainly contributed from graphene and the MoS2 monolayer for the valence band maximum and conduction band minimum, respectively. The change in the electronic structures near the Fermi level is responsible for the fact that the calculated Seebeck coefficients S and electrical conductivity σ/τ of MoS2 monolayer-graphene are largely affected from those of graphene and the MoS2 monolayer. Its power factor S 2σ/τ is increased compared to those of graphene and the MoS2 monolayer at an electron concentration of 1011 to 1012 cm-2, which corresponds to a three-dimensional concentration of 3 × 1018 to 3 × 1019 cm-3. We also demonstrated that the MoS2 monolayer shows the p-type TE behavior, while the MoS2 monolayer-graphene heterostructure is given to the n-type TE material. The current study provides a strategy to improve TE properties of the MoS2 monolayer through the formation of the MoS2 monolayer-graphene heterostructure.

Ternary selenides A2Sb4Se8 (A = K, Rb and Cs) as an n-type thermoelectric material with high power factor and low lattice thermal conductivity: importance of the conformationally flexible Sb-Se-Se-Sb bridges.

We investigated the thermoelectric properties of the layered ternary selenides A2Sb4Se8 (A = K, Rb and Cs) and the lattice thermal conductivity of K2Sb4Se8 on the basis of DFT calculations, to find that these selenides are a high-performance n-type thermoelectric material. The Seebeck coefficients and power factors calculated for the electron carriers of A2Sb4Se8 (A = K, Rb and Cs) are greater than those of the well-known thermoelectric materials Bi2Te3 and PbTe. The lattice thermal conductivity κ latt of K2Sb4Se8 is comparable to that of PbTe, well-known for its low lattice thermal conductivity. In terms of both electronic and phonon structures, the structural parts of the A2Sb4Se8 (A = K, Rb and Cs) phases crucial for their thermoelectric properties are the conformationally-flexible Sb-Se-Se-Sb bridges that interlink between their structurally rigid units.

The Sexual Victimization of Older Women Living in Nursing Homes.

This study examined 64 cases of sexual victimization of women ages 65+ (mean = 81) living in facilities that were investigated by APS and regulatory agencies in five states over a six-month period. Typically, abuse involved molestation (53%) and unwelcome sexual interest in the body (20%). Abilities and needs of women in substantiated and unsubstantiated cases were comparable. Resident perpetrators were more likely to be substantiated than staff or any other perpetrator (p = 0.008). Our results underscore the need to evaluate differences associated with gender, age, and residence, and to train on reporting and intervention by disciplines serving victims.
