RESUMO

Recent advances in deep learning have led to a surge in computer vision research, including the recognition and classification of human behavior in video data. However, most studies have focused on recognizing individual behaviors, whereas recognizing crowd behavior remains a complex problem because of the large number of interactions and similar behaviors among individuals or crowds in video surveillance systems. To solve this problem, we propose a three-dimensional atrous inception module (3D-AIM) network, which is a crowd behavior classification model that uses atrous convolution to explore interactions between individuals or crowds. The 3D-AIM network is a 3D convolutional neural network that can use receptive fields of various sizes to effectively identify specific features that determine crowd behavior. To further improve the accuracy of the 3D-AIM network, we introduced a new loss function called the separation loss function. This loss function focuses the 3D-AIM network more on the features that distinguish one type of crowd behavior from another, thereby enabling a more precise classification. Finally, we demonstrate that the proposed model outperforms existing human behavior classification models in terms of accurately classifying crowd behaviors. These results suggest that the 3D-AIM network with a separation loss function can be valuable for understanding complex crowd behavior in video surveillance systems.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease that persists or repeatedly recurs in both childhood and adulthood. Urtica thunbergiana (UT) is an aroma herb with little-known pharmacological effects and anti-inflammatory activities against AD. This study investigated the immunomodulatory efficacy of 50% ethanol-extracted UT in necrosis factor-alpha/interferon-gamma (TNF-α/IFN-γ)-stimulated HaCaT cells in vitro and AD-Biostir-induced NC/Nga mice in vivo. The results showed that UT exhibits a dose-dependent increase in scavenged free radicals, reaching 76.0% ± 1.4% of scavenged 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl at a concentration of 250 µg/mL. In addition, UT significantly downregulated the mRNA expression of the following pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines in TNF-α/IFN-γ-stimulated HaCaT cells: interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, thymus- and activation-regulated chemokine, macrophage-derived chemokine, and regulated on activation normal T expressed and secreted. UT-treated HaCaT cells showed inhibition of the overexpression of chemokine-regulated signaling molecules, such as nuclear factor-kappa B, inhibitor of kappa B (IκBα), signal transducer and activator of transcription 1, and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs). UT dietary administration in AD-Biostir-induced NC/Nga mice treated and improved AD-like symptoms, such as scales, epidermal thickening, the dermatitis severity score, high trans-epidermal water loss, reduced skin hydration, increased mast cells, elevated serum immunoglobulin E levels, and an enlarged spleen. UT treatment inhibited the expression of phosphorylated forms of MAPKs, nuclear factor of activated T-cells 1, and regulator IκBα. It also upregulated filaggrin (FLG) production. Therefore, UT shows high anti-AD activity both in vitro and in vivo, and can be a useful anti-AD agent.

RESUMO

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-motile and coccus-shaped bacterium (THG-3.7T) was isolated from seawater. Growth occurred at 10-30 °C (optimum 25 °C), at pH 6-8 (optimum 7) and in the presence of 1-8 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 4 %). Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, the nearest phylogenetic neighbours of strain THG-3.7T were identified as Paraglaciecola mesophila DSM 15026T (95.3 % similarity), Glaciecola pallidula DSM 14239T (95.2 %), Paraglaciecola aquimarina KCTC 32108T (95.1 %), Paraglaciecola arctica KACC 14537T (94.9 %), Glaciecola nitratireducens KCTC 12276T (94.7 %) and Paraglaciecola psychrophila CGMCC 1.6130T (94.7 %). 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities among strain THG-3.7T and other species were lower than 94.7 %. The polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, one unidentified lipid and one unidentified aminolipid. The quinone system was composed of Q-8. The major fatty acids were C16 : 0, C18 : 1ω7c and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH). The DNA G+C content of strain THG-3.7T was 47.9 mol%. On the basis of the data presented, strain THG-3.7T represents a novel species of the genus Glaciecola, for which the name Glaciecola amylolytica sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is THG-3.7T (=KACC 19478T=CCTCC AB 2017258T).

RESUMO

A new technique for gas temperature determination in fusion plasmas based on time- and space-resolved imaging interferometry is presented. The proposed imaging interferometer includes a multi-channel optical fiber bundle, a pair of flat mirrors, collimating lenses, and a fast camera for registration of interferometry fringes. The technique is applied for ion temperature measurements in the Versatile Experiment Spherical Torus (VEST) tokamak located at the Seoul National University. The multi-channel operation regime of the interferometer is studied by simulations. The first experimental two-channel results obtained using the Hα emission line from the VEST plasma edge are presented and analyzed. The mentioned apparatus is suggested to be especially useful for the multi-point time-resolved characterization of the non-repetitive processes in low-temperature regions of fusion plasmas.

Electron density profiles of versatile experiment spherical torus plasmas are measured by using a hydrogen line intensity ratio method. A fast-frame visible camera with appropriate bandpass filters is used to detect images of Balmer line intensities. The unique optical system makes it possible to take images of Hα and Hß radiation simultaneously, with only one camera. The frame rate is 1000 fps and the spatial resolution of the system is about 0.5 cm. One-dimensional local emissivity profiles have been obtained from the toroidal line of sight with viewing dumps. An initial result for the electron density profile is presented and is in reasonable agreement with values measured by a triple Langmuir probe.

AIM: To investigate the protective effects of electroacupuncture (EA) pretreatment on acetylsalicylic acid (ASA)-induced ulceration in rats. METHODS: We randomly divided 72 rats into three groups including control (administered with distilled water), ASA group (administered 100 mg/kg ASA) and EA group (administered EA + 100 mg/kg ASA). Each rat was fasted for 18 to 24 h before experimentation, and lesion scores, gastric acidity, cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and -2 mRNA levels, and total nitric oxide (NO) concentration were measured. RESULTS: The lesion scores of the EA group were significantly lower than those of the ASA group. Gastric acidity of the ASA and EA groups was reduced compared to the control group. COX-1 and -2 mRNA levels were significantly increased in the EA group as compared to the control and ASA groups, and NO levels were also significantly increased in the EA group as compared to the ASA group. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that EA-mediated protection against ASA-induced ulceration in rats may occur via gastric defense components.

MOTIVATION: In the human genome, 'CpG islands', CG-rich regions located in or near gene promoters, are normally unmethylated. However, in cancer cells, CpG islands frequently gain methylation, resulting in silencing of growth-limiting tumor suppressor genes. To our knowledge, the potential relationship between CpG island hypermethylation, transcription factor (TF) binding in local promoter regions and transcriptional control has not been previously explored in a genome-wide context. RESULTS: In this study, we utilized bioinformatics tools and TF binding site(TFBs) databases to globally analyze sequences methylated in a laboratory model for the development of drug-resistant cancer. Our results demonstrated that four TFBS were enriched in hypermethylated sequences. More interestingly, overrepresentation of these TFBS was observed in hyper-/hypo-methylated sequences where signi.cant changes in methylation levels were observed in drug-resistant cancer cells. In summary, we believe that these.ndings offer a means to further explore the relationship between DNA methylation and gene expression in drug resistance and tumorigenesis.

PURPOSE: Aberrant DNA methylation, now recognized as a contributing factor to neoplasia, often shows definitive gene/sequence preferences unique to specific cancer types. Correspondingly, distinct combinations of methylated loci can function as biomarkers for numerous clinical correlates of ovarian and other cancers. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: We used a microarray approach to identify methylated loci prognostic for reduced progression-free survival (PFS) in advanced ovarian cancer patients. Two data set classification algorithms, Significance Analysis of Microarray and Prediction Analysis of Microarray, successfully identified 220 candidate PFS-discriminatory methylated loci. Of those, 112 were found capable of predicting PFS with 95% accuracy, by Prediction Analysis of Microarray, using an independent set of 40 advanced ovarian tumors (from 20 short-PFS and 20 long-PFS patients, respectively). Additionally, we showed the use of these predictive loci using two bioinformatics machine-learning algorithms, Support Vector Machine and Multilayer Perceptron. CONCLUSION: In this report, we show that highly prognostic DNA methylation biomarkers can be successfully identified and characterized, using previously unused, rigorous classifying algorithms. Such ovarian cancer biomarkers represent a promising approach for the assessment and management of this devastating disease.
