RESUMO
The given clinical review covers current antiviral therapy for chronic hepatitis C. Traditional antiviral therapy with pegylated interferon-alpha and ribavirin in patients with chronic hepatitis C virus genotype 1 allows a sustained virological response (SVR) to be achieved in no more than 40% of the treated patients. The practical introduction of the third component of the therapy as direct-acting antiviral agents makes it possible to substantially increase SVR, on the one hand, and to reduce treatment time, on the other hand. This review carefully analyzes the results of clinical trials of boceprevir (a new direct-acting antiviral agent and an NS3 serine protease inhibitor) that, when incorporated into an antiviral therapy regimen with pegylated interferons and ribavirin, considerably improves treatment results in patients with chronic hepatitis C virus genotype 1. Also, it discusses the safety and tolerance of drugs that belong to the class of hepatitis C virus serine protease inhibitors, as well as the problem of viral resistance.

Hepatitis C was treated with interferon alpha in chronic alcoholics and control subjects without alcoholism. The results show that ethanol is an independent risk factor in natural progression of chronic hepatitis C. Moreover, it dose-dependently reduces probability of getting a reliable response to interferon therapy. This makes using interferon alpha treatment of hepatitis C in chronic alcoholics doubtful.

AIM: Detection of viral hepatitides markers in patients with alcoholic damage to the liver. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Virological, immunological and histochemical tests were performed in 36 chronic alcoholics who had enlarged liver and/or abnormal hepatic characteristics. RESULTS: 60% of the examinees carried chronic HBV, HCV, HDV infection. The activity of chronic inflammation of hepatic parenchyma was associated with biological phase of the viral infection development. The degree of hepatic parenchyma morphological changes was unrelated to the virus type. (HBV, HCV, HDV). CONCLUSION: Alcoholic hepatic damages often combine with viral hepatitis.

11 patients with confirmed chronic HCV-hepatitis were treated with high-dose interferon. 12 matched controls were treated conventionally. Higher response was registered in patients on the interferon treatment. Side effects were not related to the variant of interferon therapy in the studied population.

The paper deals with the development of a new more improved blood detoxicating system in critical patients. Based on the design of a [symbol: see text]-0.5 plasmapheresis device, the authors have designed a new [symbol: see text] 2-0.5 system, by including into the extracorporeal circuit the second rotor which cultures biologically active agents (hepatocytes, fragments of splenic and placental tissue) enhancing a patient's detoxification. The paper also outlines the operating principles of the [symbol: see text] K 2-0.5 device, its operational preparation and procedure.

A mathematical model is suggested of the biological system of angular stabilization in space relative to the local vertical using measures whose parameters are near to the parameters of the semicircular canals and otolithic organ of the man. On the basis of computer simulation for physiologically adequate external stimulations contribution of each of measures to the total process of angular stabilization is evaluated.

Reactions of the semicircular canals to periodic effects of the ship rolling type have been studied, using a mathematical model. The data obtained give evidence that during the above effects linear combinations of reactions of all semicircular canals may describe changes in the angular velocity of man's movement in an absolute (static) space. Besides, the common segment of the vertical semicircular canals (the common limb) allows a more accurate description of time changes in angular velocity. The mathematical model has demonstrated the dependence of absolute angular velocity as approximated by the semicircular canals from head orientation as related to the body. In addition to general discussions about rolling effects on the semicircular canals, the paper presents calculations of such reactions as applied to a specific object, i. e. a medium-size trawler.

The neck nystagmus and its changes under the influence of an otolith stimulus--centrifugal force were studied in pigeons. The results show that centrifugal forces exert a dynamic effect on the nystagmus.
