RESUMO

Twenty-six meningitic infants aged less than one year were administered daily oral or intravenous doses from 44 to 170 mg chloramphenicol per kg body weight. Serum levels measured were 5.4 to 55.0 micrograms.ml-1, and CSF concentrations from 0.9 to 20.2 micrograms.ml-1 were noted. Since, in particular for younger infants, (i) there is no clear relationship between dose and blood level and (ii) one cannot unambiguously infer the CSF concentration from the blood level we recommend that initial doses for meningitic infants be chosen according to age-adjusted dosage instructions and, from day 2 onwards, doses be corrected as a function of CSF and blood levels (CSF greater than 10 micrograms.ml-1 and serum less than 50 micrograms.ml-1).

RESUMO

Abdominal sonography should compulsory be used in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). It is not difficult to detect early morphologic changes at liver, gall-bladder, pancreas, spleen, and vessels by ultrasound. As a non-invasive method sonography is a very useful tool for a comprehensive special care of outpatients with CF.

RESUMO

No generally valid and accepted views, applicable to all severities, have so far existed regarding aetiopathogenesis and therapeutic strategies for surgical approach to anorectal prolapse in childhood. More ground has been assumed in recent years by sclerosing therapy. The injections therapy has proved to be highly suitable for severity stages One and Two and for Type I according to Reifferscheid and Altemeier. It should be used before more invasive surgical interventions are decided. This conclusion has been drawn by the authors of this paper from their own therapeutic results obtained from 37 cases of anorectal prolapse in childhood, with therapeutic sclerosing being used in 23 instances.
