Forevacuum plasma-cathode electron source for generation of a ribbon beam over a wide pressure range.

We describe the results of our investigations of the generation of a ribbon electron beam (10 × 220 mm2) by a two-stage discharge system based on a hollow-cathode glow discharge plasma. The source design enables operation in the pressure range 2 × 10-2 to 10 Pa. At a beam accelerating voltage of 8 kV, the beam current is 450 mA at a pressure of 2 × 10-2 Pa and 150 mA at a pressure of 10 Pa. To achieve a uniform current density distribution of the beam over its cross-sectional area, a special design of emission electrode was employed. This enabled us to reduce non-uniformities of the beam current density distribution to a level of 10%.

Plasma electron source for generating a ribbon beam in the forevacuum pressure range.

We describe a plasma-cathode electron beam source based on a hollow cathode glow discharge and operating in the forevacuum pressure range that produces a steady-state ribbon beam. The electron beam is generated in the pressure range of 10-30 Pa. A multi-aperture electron extraction and beam formation system is used to provide beam stability and enhanced uniformity of beam current density, allowing the use of this kind of device for beam-plasma surface modification over relatively large areas.

Forevacuum-pressure plasma-cathode high-power continuous electron beam source.

We describe a plasma-cathode electron beam source based on a hollow-cathode discharge that is capable of generating a 9 kW dc electron beam at an accelerating voltage of 20 kV, with helium as a working gas at a pressure of 30 Pa. A test run of ∼50 operational hours did not indicate any significant degradation of the electron source extraction system or other structural components, and we estimate the operational lifetime of the source at about 100-120 h.

Double-coil magnetic focusing of the electron beam generated by a plasma-cathode electron source.

We present the results of our investigations of magnetic focusing of the electron beam generated by a plasma-cathode electron source in the forevacuum pressure range (10-30 Pa). We show that a magnetic double-focusing system employing two separate field coils with the main magnetic coil located close to the beam collector at the focal plane provides effective and efficient focusing of the electron beam. With our e-beam source, this focusing system produces a power density of more than 1 MW/cm2 at the electron beam focus with an accelerating voltage of 30 kV and a beam current up to 60 mA. For comparison, the maximum beam power density provided by plasma-cathode electron sources at pressures of less than 0.1 Pa is at the level of 10 MW/cm2.

[About improvement of outpatient dental health service for young serviceman].

The article gives a detailed account of results of epidemiological survey of dental morbidity in young serviceman and different types of outpatient dental health service needs. Medical norms for dispensary supply with all types of outpatient dental health service for young servicemen are estimated. Suggestions for improvement of organizational and staff structure of dental office of medical company are formulated.

Multifunctional bulk plasma source based on discharge with electron injection.

A bulk plasma source, based on a high-current dc glow discharge with electron injection, is described. Electron injection and some special design features of the plasma arc emitter provide a plasma source with very long periods between maintenance down-times and a long overall lifetime. The source uses a sectioned sputter-electrode array with six individual sputter targets, each of which can be independently biased. This discharge assembly configuration provides multifunctional operation, including plasma generation from different gases (argon, nitrogen, oxygen, acetylene) and deposition of composite metal nitride and oxide coatings.

[Ryazan hospital--80 years].

In December 2011 marked 80 years of the founding of the Ryazan garrison hospital, originally housed in two buildings: "Redut housed"--a monument of architecture of the XVIII century and the former almshouses room "for the maimed in the war", was built in 1884 now Ryazan garrison hospital (from 2010--Branch No 6 FSI "in 1586 the district military hospital in the Western Military District", the Defense Ministry of Russia)--a multi-field medical preventive institution on the basis of which soldiers, military retirees, family members and military retirees from Ryazan, Moscow, Tambov regions are treated. Every year more than 7 thousand patients get treatment here. During the counterterrorism operations in Chechnya over 800 wounded were brought to the hospital from the battle area.

[Psychophysiological monitoring of professionally important qualities of military physicians].

Percent of graduates from civil medical universities among military physicians is 22%. Due to reforming of a system of military-medical education, percent of female soldiers in medical service has increased. Psychophysiological peculiarities of this military personnel class have an impact on a military service quality. It has been established that professional success of military physician is governed by mentality, social and psychological adaptation and military-professional motivation. For this reason, medical service recruiting should be realized on the basis of scientifically grounded series of measures of professionally psychological selection. It is shown that it is necessary to elaborate measures for selection and evaluation of professionally important qualities for female military physicians recruiting. Authors suggested the system of ranking of professional activity success, which can be a methodological basis for acceptance of scientifically grounded solutions about the administration of current medical personnel.

Pilot in vitro study of the parameters of artificial niche for osteogenic differentiation of human stromal stem cell pool.

The aim of this research is experimental investigation of the topography and evaluation of some parameters of artificial microterritories promoting osteogenic differentiation of stromal stem cells. A technique of short-term culturing of prenatal human lung stromal cells with fibroblastoid morphology on calcium phosphate substrates with known topography was used. Judging from secretory activity of the cell culture (osteocalcin, alkaline phosphatase), stromal stem cells directly interacting with calcium phosphate discs have advantage in manifestation of osteoblast-like functional activity in comparison with cells cultured on plastic. Rough surfaces of calcium phosphate discs stimulate the formation of spatial human fibroblastoid cell culture. The cells with positive reaction to acid phosphatase are located on spheroliths forming the relief of calcium phosphate coatings. The cells with positive reaction to alkaline phosphatase (marker of osteoblasts) populate hollows (niches) of the artificial surface. The niche for induction of osteogenic differentiation of human multipotent mesenchymal stem cells is apparently a structural and functional formation. It can be characterized by an index calculated as the ratio of the total area occupied by alkaline phosphatase-positive cells to the area of artificial surface occupied by one stained cell.

[Results of treatment of lung cancer complicated by postoperative pleural empyema].

An evaluation of the literature and our own experience with surgical and combined treatment of lung cancer complicated by postoperative pleural empyema established the following incidence rates in 2.4% of patients: postpneumonectomy (4.2%), particularly on the side (57.4%), and in tumor stage III cases (70.6%). Bronchal stump failure (89.7%) was the main cause of postoperative pleural empyema while the risk doubled (4.5-6.0%; p < or = 0.05) after neoadjuvant therapy. Both immediate and end results were worse in postoperative pleural empyema than in similar uncomplicated cases: 12 month survival--43.8% vs. 71.1%; 3-year--18.8-36.8%; 5-year--10.4-26.3%. Also, postoperative pleural empyema patients stayed in hospital longer.
