RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: According to the literature, 20-50% of women will experience urinary tract infection (UTI) in their lifetime, and in 10-30% of cases, cystitis will recur. Despite the high prevalence of recurrent UTI, there are lack of studies dedicated to its impact on the quality of life, and the influence of postcoital cystitis on the quality of life and sexual function has not been previously evaluated. AIM: To assess the quality of life and sexual function in patients with recurrent postcoital cystitis before and after transposition of the urethra. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Women suffering from recurrent postcoital cystitis, who underwent urethral transposition from 2019 to 2021 were included the study. The SF-12v2 questionnaire was used to assess quality of life, while sexual function was evaluated using Female Sexual Function Index [FSFI]. Questionnaires were filled out by 70 patients, before and after surgery. RESULTS: All domains of the quality of life were significantly different in the pre- and postoperative period. More pronounced changes were found in the mental health-related quality of life. In addition, there were significant differences in each domain of FSFI and the overall score postoperatively compared to baseline. CONCLUSION: Our study reports a high prevalence of sexual dysfunction among women with recurrent postcoital cystitis as well as a reduced quality of life. This work shows the social significance of the problem, as well as the high rehabilitation potential of urethral transposition.

RESUMO

Diagnosis of sarcopenia is difficult due to the limitations of measuring muscle mass, which requires specialized equipment. Simple screening tools can be useful in general practice. The aim of the study was to develop a new screening method for diagnosing sarcopenia based on risk factors and biomarkers of the disease. The study included 230 people over 65 years and older (70 men and 160 women, median age 75 [68; 79] years) examined in a medical institution in St. Petersburg. Sarcopenia was diagnosed according to the updated consensus of the European Working Group on Sarcopenia 2 (EWGSOP2, 2018). When constructing a mathematical model, such indicators as the number of falls, BMI, fatigue, and the level of C-reactive protein in the blood serum had the greatest diagnostic significance of sarcopenia. The calculations showed high sensitivity - 91,4%, specificity - 88,7% and accuracy - 89,9% of the screening method for diagnosing sarcopenia in people 65 years and older.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To estimate the incidence of epileptic seizures in patients with glial and metastatic brain tumors and to identify clinical and morphological risk factors for epileptic seizures in patients with glial and metastatic brain tumors. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 225 (88.6%) patients with glial brain tumors and 29 patients (11.4%) with metastatic tumors. RESULTS: Statistically significant differences in the incidence of epileptic seizures depending on age, histological characteristics of the tumor, degree of malignancy, tumor localization, involvement of the cerebral cortex, the presence of the midline shift were obtained. CONCLUSIONS: Epilepsy and epileptic seizures was found to develop in 51.11% and 24.14% of cases in glial and metastatic brain tumors, respectively. Risk factors for developing epileptic seizures include younger age (up to 57 years), histological characteristics corresponding to diffuse astrocytomas, anaplastic astrocytomas, oligodendrogliomas, oligoastrocytomas, grade I-III malignancy, lesion of the temporal lobe, involvement of the cerebral cortex. Factors that reduce the risk for attacks include age over 57, histological characteristics corresponding to glioblastomas and metastatic tumors, grade IV malignancy, subcortical localization of the tumor, damage to the occipital lobe, involvement of the commissural pathways, subtentorial localization of the tumor, the absence of lesions of the temporal and frontal lobes of the brain, the involvement of both brain hemispheres, damage to two or more brain lobes, the presence of a midline shift.

RESUMO

The purpose of our study was to evaluate the parameters of the stabilogram in people over 65 years of age and to identify the parameters of the stabilometric study, which had statistically significant connections with falls and fractures. The study included 308 patients older than 65 years, living in their own homes. To perform the research tests with open (OG) and eyes closed (MO). It uses the European approach positioning stop on the platform: the patient is installed in the position of the foot heels together, toes apart. Patients during the testing behavior did not use orthopedic vehicles as walkers, walking sticks. The study found gender differences in the speed V (p<0,01) and area S (p<0,01), the center of pressure stop (CD) on at Stabiloplatform conducting tests with open and closed eyes. At the age of 85 years found significant deviations of speed (V) CD stabilogram in open and closed eyes tests (p<0,01), corresponding to a high frequency of falls 61,36% (95% CI 45,5-75,6; p<0,05). In patients with rare (other) fractures, there were deviations in the mean direction of the oscillations during a sample with open eyes  (OG) (p<0,05). There were no statistically significant differences in the stabilometric parameters in the presence of hip fractures and vertebral fractures (p>0,05). Thus, the stabilometry method can be used in elderly people for early detection of imbalance and the risk of developing falls that will prevent the development of fractures.

RESUMO

Complex study of health state covered 666 workers of gas transport enterprise situated in Far North of Russian Federation, revealed risk factors of neurosensory deafness. Neurosensory deafness risk depends on intensity of occupational noise and length of service under exposure to noise, on worker's age, presence of arterial hypertension and type of lipid metabolism disorders. The study found no correlation between neurosensory deafness risk and duration of residence in Far North. The authors suggested a mathematic model to evaluate risk of neurosensory deafness.

RESUMO

The authors evaluated efficiency of rehabilitation in patients with upper limbs occupational polyneuropathy, in accordance with length of service under physical overstrain. The study was based on follow-up of 268 patients. Treatment was initiated after the patients discontinued work hazardous for health. Drug and sanatorium treatment was effective in 67-86% of patients (with differences in occupational groups). The effect was only transitory (for 15-60 days) decrease of the disease clinical manifestations. Rehabilitation prognosis was reliably better in patients who worked during the disease development in conditions with number of stereotypic working movements of hands within hygienic norms. The treatment efficiency is reliably higher when started at younger age, regular drug and sanatorium treatment for many years. Placement of the patients on jobs avoiding physical overstrain enabled nowadays to prevent progression of occupational polyneuropathy.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The study was conducted to analyze different criteria for lumbar discectomy success rate. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 493 patients were evaluated by five-component visual-analogue pain scale, Oswestry index, ability to perform normal daily activity and work, satisfaction with surgery results and Watkins scale. RESULTS: Good and excellent results of surgery correspond with good functional outcome. Generally, values reflecting good outcome could also be used as successful surgery criteria, although 10 to 20% of those patients still have pain complaints and/or are not satisfied with their postoperative functional and economic status. CONCLUSION: None of the abovementioned criteria has proved to be absolute prognostic factor. Combination of different predictive values might be useful in lumbar disc surgery outcome anticipation.

RESUMO

The study was performed for development of more precise criteria for assessment of pain using five-component visual analogue scale. Pain status was studied in 493 patients who underwent lumbar spinal nerve root decompression. Pain scale included the following parameters: pain at the moment, usual pain, maximal pain, minimal pain and overall pain score which was calculated as an average quantity of the previous four parameters. Overall pain score is a more precise criterion for evaluation of postoperative pain status in patients with degenerative lumbar spine disease.

RESUMO

Fluor osteopathy, as the authors suppose, is a morphologic repetition of phylogenesis early stages in osteogenesis. Thus, osteosclerosis and osteoporosis demonstrated by X-ray should be considered as manifestation of bone fluorosis. Fluor-induced changes of bone tissue could not be adequately termed as "osteoporosis" and "osteosclerosis", so is defined as "fluor osteopathy".
