RESUMO

169 children (105 with food sensitization and 64 without it among them) were examined. The presence of combined functional disorders of the digestive system on the background of food sensitization is proved. There are lesions of the biliary tract and of the sphincter of Oddi on pancreatic type among them, which prevailed. It was shown that the food sensitization is pathogenetic factor in the development of functional abnormalities of the pancreas, the maximum effect is marked in pre-school age.

RESUMO

Clinical-and-hematological characteristics are presented of B-cell chronic lymphoid leukosis in those persons who took part in the elimination of the effects of the Chornobyl accident in the remote period. Results are highlighted of treatment of 16 patients with making use of different chemical drug preparations. Employment of fludarabin and cyclophosphan combined in treatment of the medical condition in question has been shown to promote long-term complete and partial remissions in a major proportion of patients, which effect was not achievable with standard means of remediation. A side effect of fludarabin was leukocytopenia that in the presence of changed immunity threatened the patients with development and exacerbation of infections complications. Use of manax and erbisol moderated the immunosuppressive and toxic action of fludarabin, due to which fact infectious complications and drug-induced hepatitis have came to be less common, the patients' quality of life gotten better.

RESUMO

The course is analyzed of myeloblastic leukemia in twelve participants in the elimination of the aftermath of the Chernobyl Atomic Power Plant breakdown. The iliac trepanobiopsies bone-marrow hemopoiesis is studied. A gross depression of normal hemopoiesis has been revealed together with a fibrous transformation of the bone marrow, which fact suggests a profound damage to the hemopoietic micro-surroundings, being a cause of ineffective hemopoiesis, of grave course of the illness, and of failure to respond to cytostatic therapy.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The effect of luminance range compression on the visual threshold of a target in a computed tomographic (CT) scan was investigated in eight experiments. METHODS: Both visual increment thresholds of a hot target and visual decrement thresholds of a cold target were obtained. Realistic noisy CT images simulating a scan reconstruction and partial volume blurring were tested as representative of complex medical images. Negative versions, high luminance versions, and noise-free versions of these CT images also were tested. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: In all the noisy images, as the luminance range of the image was compressed, proportionately smaller physical luminance differences between the target and its local background were needed to reach visual threshold. However, the thresholds were the same in terms of the difference in CT numbers between target and background. Noise in terms of CT numbers sets the threshold for a wide range of display conditions. In the noise-free CTs, as the luminance range was compressed, the luminance differences between the target and background needed to reach threshold also decreased, but only marginally. However, in terms of CT numbers, the thresholds were increased.

RESUMO

Effective display of computer-generated biomedical images draws on computer graphics and image processing, display technology and human factors, visual psychophysics and perception, cognitive psychology, and the new field of scientific data visualization. In converting from raw, acquired data to a visual display, developers need to know the limitations of the data and of the display technology. To obtain reliable inferences about the clinical or physiological state of the patient requires that the computer display be matched to the visual information-processing competence and limitations of human observers. The issues that should be considered by both developers and users of computer-based display technologies to enhance clinical performance in observation and diagnosis are surveyed with reference to electrical activity brain maps.

RESUMO

The M-AFC (alternatively forced choice) transformed up-down adaptive method for the rapid determination of visual thresholds in medical images is described. The method is very efficient in obtaining thresholds to medical imaging parameters; in addition, it is free from criterion bias, an important concern in radiology, and it is free from parametric assumptions about the stimulus scale, which is often unknown due to the complexity of medical images. Issues of experimental design are presented that arise in the use of this method, and the psychological caveats which should be followed with human observers are noted. Two experiments are presented to demonstrate the method's efficacy in determining thresholds and psychometric functions in medical images.

RESUMO

Figure-ground organization of an ambiguous pattern can be manipulated by the spatial and temporal frequency content of the two regions of the pattern. Controlling for space-averaged luminance and perceived contrast, we tested patterns in which the two regions of the ambiguous pattern contained sine-wave gratings of 8, 4, 1, or 0.5 cycles per degree (cpd) undergoing on:off flicker at the rates of 0, 3.75, 7.5, or 15 Hz. For a full set of combinations of temporal frequency differences, with each spatial frequency the higher temporal frequency was seen as background for more of the viewing time. For two spatial frequency combinations, 1 and 4 cpd, and 1 and 8 cpd, tested under each of the four temporal frequencies, the lower spatial frequency region was seen as the background for more of the viewing time. When the effects of spatial and temporal frequency were set in opposition, neither was predominant in determining perceptual organization. It is suggested that figure-ground organization may parallel the sustained-transient response characteristics of the visual system.

RESUMO

The figure-ground organization of an ambiguous bipartite pattern can be manipulated by altering the temporal-frequency content of the two regions of the pattern. Ambiguous patterns in which the two regions of each pattern contained sine-wave gratings of either 8, 4, 1, or 0.5 cycles deg-1 undergoing contrast reversal at rates of 0, 3.75, 7.5, or 15 Hz were tested for figure-ground organization under conditions of equated space-averaged and time-averaged luminance and perceived contrast. All combinations of temporal-frequency differences between the two regions were tested at each spatial frequency. The data are reported for two levels of temporal resolution (15 and 30 s). The pattern region with the relatively higher temporal frequency tended to be seen as the background a higher percentage of the viewing time. There were significant linear trends for the appearance as background of the region of higher temporal frequency with respect to the magnitude of the temporal-frequency difference between the two regions of each pattern for all spatial frequencies and data intervals except the final 15 s interval of the lowest (0.5 cycle deg-1) spatial-frequency condition.

RESUMO

The figure-ground organization of an ambiguous bipartite pattern in which the two regions of the pattern contained sine-wave gratings which differed in spatial frequency was examined for two pairs of spatial frequencies: 1 and 4 cycles deg-1, and 1 and 8 cycles deg-1. The region of higher spatial frequency underwent contrast reversal at one of four rates: 0, 3.75, 7.5, or 15 Hz. The region of lower spatial frequency was equated with either the temporal frequency or the velocity of the grating of higher spatial frequency in three sets of conditions: one stationary condition, three in which temporal frequency was equated, and three in which velocity was equated. For the 1 and 4 cycles deg-1 pair, the region of lower spatial frequency tended to be seen as the background a higher percentage of the time. There were significant linear trends for the appearance as background of the region of lower spatial frequency with respect to the magnitude of the velocity difference between the two regions of the pattern. The faster the 1 cycle deg-1 grating moved with respect to the 4 cycles deg-1 grating, the higher the percentage of the time it was seen as the ground. The results for the 1 and 8 cycles deg-1 pair were in some cases unexpected in that the 8 cycles deg-1 grating was seen as the ground behind the 1 cycle deg-1 grating even though it was of a higher spatial frequency and moved at a slower velocity. The spatiotemporal tuning of the visual system is discussed.
