RESUMO

AIM: The aim of the study was to evaluate the proportion of left and right congenital muscular torticollis (CMT) in both genders and age groups of the patients as well as to evaluate the duration of physical therapy and treatment outcome in observed population. METHODS: In our study, 980 children with CMT without hematoma were treated at University children's Hospital of Belgrade (Serbia). They were divided into 2 groups: group with left torticollis and group with right torticollis. Boys and girls were separately evaluated. Patients were classified into 5 age groups: group of children less than one month of life, group above one to 3 months, group above 3 months to 6 months, group above 6 months to 12 months and group of children above 12 months of life. Optimal time for physical therapy was analyzed in every age group. RESULTS: We diagnosed 496 torticollis in boys and 484 torticollis in girls. There were 458 children with left torticollis and 522 children with right torticollis. In group of children less than one month of life median duration of physical therapy was 1.5+/-0.3 months, in group above one to 3 months of life 5.9+/-0.6, in group above 3 to 6 months 7.2+/-0.6, in group above 6 to 12 months 9.8+/-0.6 and in group of children above 12 months of life 10.3+/-0.8 months. CONCLUSION: Right torticollis is frequent in both genders and age groups. Younger children have lower treatment duration and better treatment outcome. Boys have longer treatment duration and not significantly better treatment outcome.

RESUMO

Preparedness planning for two large mass gatherings events were considered in Serbia in the context of pandemic influenza (H1N1) 2009. Planning included approaches to prevention, detection and response in order to mitigate the situation at this early stage of the epidemic in Serbia. Cases of influenza A(H1N1)v were identified nationally immediately prior to the mass gatherings but also identified in association with both events, as expected in the context of the pandemic situation. This article describes the experiences of planning and the epidemiological situation during the period of the mass gathering events.

RESUMO

The pharmacokinetics and relative bioavailability of fluoxetine capsules (reference) and tablets (test) were compared in 24 healthy subjects of both sexes after a single 20 mg oral dose of fluoxetine (as a hydrochloride salt). A randomized, crossover design with a 2-week wash-out period between each dose was applied. Serum samples, obtained before dosing and at various appropriate time points up to 192 hours, were analyzed for fluoxetine and norfluoxetine content by a simple, accurate and precise HPLC method. ANOVA, power analysis, 90% confidence intervals (CI), and two one-sided tests were used for the statistical analysis of pharmacokinetic parameters. The tolerability of the preparations was good. The respective point estimates of the ratios of the geometric means of log-Cmax and log-AUC(0-infinity) of fluoxetine were 0.912 and 0.935 with 90% of 0.838-0.992 and 0.857-1.020. The corresponding point estimates of norfluoxetine were 0.952 (90% CI = 0.843-1.075) and 0.904 (90% CI = 0.807-1.013), respectively. Since both 90% CI for the AUC(0-infinity). and Cmax geometric mean ratios of fluoxetine and norfluoxetine were included in the 80% to 125% interval proposed by the FDA the test drug (fluoxetine tablets) was considered bioequivalent to the reference one (Prozac capsules) according both to the rate and extent of absorption.
