RESUMO

Patients with febrile attacks of schizophrenia showed clinical and laboratory correlations between the severity of the clinical picture on the one hand and parameters of the leukocyte index of intoxication, ESR, the NaK ratio and 17-CS secretion, on the other. The authors consider the possible causes of elevated levels of dopamine in the urine and of beta-lipoproteins and creatine phosphokinase in the cerebrospinal fluid. The study has revealed anti-brain antibodies and sensitization of leukocytes to neuroleptics. A possible role of neural viral infection in the etiology and pathogenesis of the studies conditions is discussed.

RESUMO

Twice-repeated (with one-week interval) immunization of male rats with antigen complex of water-soluble protein fraction of rat hippocampus (WPH, 2 mg of total protein per rat) entailed statistically significant improvement in acquisition of a shuttle-box active avoidance response in comparison with animals immunized with antigen complex of water-soluble fraction of neocortex (WPN) or bovine sera albumin (BSA) of intact animals. Significant differences in resistance against extinction of the orienting reflex in the "open-field" test were found in the behaviour of animals immunized with WPH. Immunological analysis revealed a total increase in the level of antibrain antibodies in sera of all the immunized rats in comparison with the intact ones. No obvious correlation was found between the degree of development of the immune response and the physiological parameters. The neuroimmune actions seem to result in alterations of the hippocampus functional activity.

RESUMO

The comparison of 32 immature infants with mental retardation of various degree (based on the results of clinical, immunological and biochemical examinations) with full-term infants with analogous pathology showed in the former group a high incidence (82.8%) of cerebral antibodies to antigens of the homo- and heterological brain in the complement consumption test. Therapeutic measures helped to reduce neuroimmune changes while the presence of antibodies to the homologous brain remained stable. Using data on the excretion of vanillyl amygdalic and homovanillic acids, the authors established alterations in catecholamine catabolism as well as in the activity of serum amine oxidase, which depended on the degree of mental retardation. Changes in individual components of catecholamine metabolism were found to correlate with neuroimmune shifts. The data obtained point to the presence of changes in biogenic amine metabolism and in immunological processes in mentally retarded children, which are very likely to be caused by immaturity at birth.

RESUMO

A clinico-immunological examination involved 39 patients with a prolonged unfavourable course of schizophrenia at the stage of disease exacerbation. Cytotoxic cerebral antibodies determined in the subcomissural organ-glomerular zone of the adrenal cortex model were found in 94.8% of those studied which was significantly higher than the amount of complement binding antibodies (59.0%). The cytotoxic action of sera was paralleled by the neurosensitization of T lymphocytes in the presence of their functional activity decrease. Many seropositive patients exhibited an increase in one, two or three classes of immunoglobulins which appears to confirm indirectly the correlation between the above phenomena. A comprehensive clinico-immunological examination of schizophrenic patients should facilitate a more profound insight into the pathogenesis of the disease and the selection of the appropriate therapy.

RESUMO

The study of immunoglobulin levels and neuroimmune processes in younger schoolchildren with slightly retarded intellectual development revealed the deficiency of immunoglobulin A (either alone or in combination with other types of immunoglobulins). The neuroimmune processes identified were characterized by the presence of brain antibodies predominantly against interspecific antigens. During psychostimulant and general somatic therapy, the concentration of immunoglobulins tended towards normal and the intensity of neuroimmune processes declined.

RESUMO

The accumulation and distribution of phosphorus radioisotope was studied in different brain areas of rats. These rats were desensitized by antigens of a whole homologous brain and its separate structures. A certain general tendency towards an accumulation of the brain phosphorus was detected after neurosensitization. Besides, in sensitization by separate structures (brain cortex, cerebellum) the most pronounced changes were in the hematoencephalic barrier (HEB) of the corresponding brain areas are less pronounced in other structures. The paper contains data concerning the function of HEB in animals immunized by the medulla oblongata. The found changes in the barrier mechanisms of the HEB in neurosensitization may be one of the pathogenetical mechanisms of certain diseases accompanied by neuroautoimmune processes.

RESUMO

The report deals with studies of the penetration of gamma-globulin I131 of rabbit antibrain sera into the different brain areas of intact and sensitized rats and into the placenta of embryo tissues. It was demonstrated that lebeled I131 gamma-globulin containing antibodies to homo- and heterologous brain may in a small amount penetrate from the blood into the CNS of animals. The authors demonstrated as well that labelled antibodies penetrated from the blood of pregnant rats through the placenta and accumulated in the brain and internal organs of the embryo. These facts are significant for development of pathogenesis of an antenatal brain pathology.
