RESUMO

Stated are the values of the basic microelements in fallow deer in the region of Northeast Bulgaria as established through biogeochemical analysis. In unfavourable years metabolism is disturbed resulting in lowering the defense mechanism of the body. A number of bacterial species, and, more specifically, Escherichia coli increase their virulence and cause gastrointestinal disorders and diseases. Copper, selenium, and arsenic deficiency lead to endemic ataxia with characteristic clinical symptoms--the so-called spring diarrhea and endemic paresis. The Microsal Nesse polymicroelement preparation has been tested to prevent diseases as applied to the drinking water and to the forest and fruit silage. It contributes to strengthening the resistance of fallow deer, lowering the chronic diseases of the lungs, stomach, and intestines as well as to improving the shooting trophies.

RESUMO

A total of 24 horses and 42 cattle with a variety of local suppurative processes (wounds, abscesses, phlegmons, tendovaginitis, etc.) were studied under conditions of the clinic with regard to the most commonly found microbial species and the opportunity to work out antibioticogrammes in terms of the effectiveness of 11 of the chemotherapeutic agents widely used in the practice. It was found that prevailing in horses were staphylococci and streptococci. In cattle Corynebacterium pyogenes was predominantly established. Besides, there was a rising trend in the part played by representative agents of the occasionally pathogenic microflora (Ps. aeruginosa, Pr. vulgaris, Escherichia coli) as the causative species of local suppurative processes. These organisms were fairly often isolated in association with other species, while they were more rarely found as the only acting ones in a particular case. Best effects of the antibiotics tested could be expectedly produced by gentamycin (82.5 per cent), carbenimycin (74.2 per cent), oxacyllin (72.7 per cent), ampicillin (68.2 per cent), and canamycin (61.8 per cent). At the same time, the effectiveness produced by some of the antibiotics widely employed in the practice, such as chloramphenicol, tetracycline, streptomycin, and penicillin was below 50 per cent.

RESUMO

A comparative experiment was carried out with sheep that were infected i/v and via the joints with Corynebacterium pyogenes and Escherichia coli, and with normal sheep left as controls. The pharmacokinetic parameters were determined of amoxicillin-trihydrate following its i/m application to all animals in a 20 percent oil suspension. It was found that there was delayed excretion of the antibiotic, and as a rule it was maintained in higher concentrations in the diseased animals. the differences were likely to be due to changes in the metabolic processes and to injury of the kidneys.

RESUMO

Polyarthritis was induced in lambs via the i/v infection with 2 cm3 of 24-hour Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae broth culture, which led to distinctive morphologic and biochemical changes in the peripheral blood. The hemoglobin content, the erythrocyte count, and the hematocrit value dropped, while ESR rose with the development of the infection process. The white blood picture presented transient and slight drop of the leukocyte count followed by leukocytosis with shifting to the left, aneosinophilia, lympho- and monopenia in the acute stage, and well manifested eosinophilia in the chronic stage of the infection. The changes in the total protein and the protein fractions consisted in hypoproteinemia in the first days following infection, hypoalbuminemia during the entire period, and hyperproteinemia and hypergammaglobulinemia in the chronic stage. The changes in the blood electrolites consisted in the rise of Ca and K, the drop of Na, and transient changes in the level of P, tending toward a rise in the chronic stage. It was also established that the values of sialic acid were raised in the entire period of polyarthritis development, while those of aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase were higher in the first seven-day period only.

RESUMO

Experimental investigations were carried out with 6 lambs each infected i/v with 2 cm3 of a 24-hour broth culture of Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae rated at 10(8) microbial cells per cu. cm. The clinical state of the animals was followed up in the course of 60 days, the changes in the cardiovascular system and those in the movements of the rumen being recorded radiotelemetrically, while the changes taking place in the joints were studied roentgenographically. It was found that the causative agent of swine erysipelas was strongly pathogenic for the lambs following a hematogenic infection, causing polyarthritis with concurrent changes in the general state--rise of temperature and higher respiration and pulse rates. The electrocardiograms of the affected animals showed sinus tachycardia, participation of Q waves, and changes in the R and T waves, while the graphic records of the rumen showed a drop in the number of rumen contractions and decrease in the amplitude. Roentgenographically, there were periostitis and osteoarthritis of the carpal and tarsal joints.

RESUMO

In calves (cross-breds--Bulgarian Brown Cattle breed and Black Spot Cattle bred) weighing about 189 kg pharmacokinetics of sulphadoxine (SD) and trimethoprim (TMP) was studied. The two substances were administered in combination (5 + 1) as a dosage form Tridoxin (Pharmachim, Bulgaria; 24% injectable solution) (TD) at a dose 15 mg/kg m. The results show that after intramuscular administration TD is absorbed relatively rapidly. SD and TMP have systemic availability 94.1 +/- 18.1% and 52.5 +/- 6.2% and produce blood levels, after a single dose of TD, higher than potentiated minimum inhibitory concentrations for 24-48 h and 5(4-8) h, respectively. Upon intravenous administration the two-compartmental model is applicable for the distribution and elimination of SD and TMP (for TMP in part of the animals one-compartmental model is applicable). The two substances are distributed relatively widely in organs and tissues. The biological half-life of TD--t1/2 beta for SD is 14.36 +/- 1.40 h and for TMP--2.40 +/- 0.31 (for one-compartmental model--1.92 +/- 0.26) h, Vd--429.9 +/- 16.9 ml/kg and for TMP in part of the animals one-compartmental model is applicable). After intramuscular injection at the dose used a suitable withdrawal time for meat and internal organs is 5 days and for milk--2 days.

RESUMO

Rhesus monkeys have been kept in horizontal position under klinostatic or antiorthostatic hypokinetic conditions for 7 and 19 days. Using scanning electron microscope, studies were made of the otolithic membrane of the utricle, the receptor surface of the utricle, crista ampullaris of the lateral semicircular canals, the organ of Corti, the stria vascularis and spiral ligament. No significant differences were found between control and experimental animals.

RESUMO

Using scanning electron microscope, studies have been made of the structure of the receptive surface of the organ of Corti in 48- and 57-day old embryos of the guinea pig. It was found that some structural modifications take place in this period: the size and the number of microvilli in the supporting cells decrease, the width of the organ of Corti increases, the number of ball-like cytoplasmic protrusions from the cellular surface decreases, the number of kinocilia in the receptor cells is reduced. These processes are associated presumably with the development of Nuel's space, Corti's tunnel, the origin of flexible connection between the tectorial membrane and the receptive surface, as well as with maturation of the ionic composition of the inner ear fluid.

RESUMO

The glycoproteins (GP) of 329 patients with liver diseases and 60 clinically healthy subjects were complexly studied: sialic acid, orozomucoid, haptoglobin, ceruloplasmin, cholinesterase, hexosamine and fucose. Modern laparoscopic, bioscopic, histochemical and histomorphological methods were used in making the diagnosis and determination of the disease phase; The liver diseases are characterized by quantitative and qualitative differences in the character of the GP changes in serum. GP are mostly changed in acute viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, extrahepatic cholestasis and liver tumours, less in chronic aggressive hepatitis and no change in chronic persistent hepatitis and steatosis. The complex GP study is of significance in the characteristic of the activity of the pathological process, in the specification of the liver function as well as for the prognosis of a certain disease.

RESUMO

Fifty two patients, 29 males and 23 females, with seronegative polyarthritis, carriers of tissue-compatible antigen HLA--B27 manifested characteristic clinical signs: the disease started at young age--29; it progresses, most frequently, with attacks--acute or subacute as monoarthritis (gonitis) or oligoarthritis, the lower limb joints predominantly involved. The periarticular structures are very often involved in the process--achillitis, styloiditis, talagia and sarcoiliac joints--sarcoiliitis clinically and scintigraphically confirmed. With the family examinations of the patients' relatives the following cases were established: 9 cases with Bechterew's disease, four cases with sacroiliitis, one--with iridocyclitis, two patients with rheumatoid arthritis and 18 healthy carriers of HLA--B27 antigen. The dynamics of the development of typical ankylozing spondylitus was a favourable prognosis and the treatment, most often, covers--nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs or low doses of corticosteroids--generally or locally.

RESUMO

Several types of otoconia are present in the otolithic membrane of the utricle of fetal, young and adult guinea pigs. These include smooth, transitional and rough otoconia, and a few rhombohedrons. The smooth otoconia are nearly the same numeric fraction in all the specimens. The mean size of otoconia increases only during the course of gestation. Our measurements indicate that the diameter (d) and the length (l) of otoconia are related linearly as: d = 0.4l + 0.4. The smooth otoconia seem to be independent morphological form which is not derived from more "primitive", rough or transitional ones. The otoconia consist mainly of CaCO3 and contain Na, Mg and trace amount of K. The chemical composition of otoconia is similar in fetal, young and adult guinea pigs.
