Beta-adrenergic receptors (beta-ARs) play a pivotal role in the cardiovascular regulation. In the human heart beta1- and beta2-ARs dominate in atria as well as in ventricle influencing heart rate and myocardial contractility. Some single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of beta-ARs might influence cardiovascular function. However, the influence of beta-AR genes SNPs on hemodynamic parameters at rest and their reactivity under stress is still not well known. We aimed to explore the associations between four selected beta-ARs gene polymorphisms and selected cardiovascular measures in eighty-seven young healthy subjects. While in beta1-AR polymorphism rs1801252 no significant association was observed, second beta1-AR polymorphism rs1801253 was associated with decreased cardiac output and cardiac index during all phases and with decreased flow time corrected and ejection time index at rest and during mental arithmetics. Polymorphism rs1042713 in beta2-AR was associated with alterations in blood pressure variability at rest and during head-up-tilt, while rs1042714 was associated predominantly with decreased parameters of cardiac contractility at rest and during mental arithmetics. We conclude that complex analysis of various cardiovascular characteristics related to the strength of cardiac contraction and blood pressure variability can reveal subtle differences in cardiovascular sympathetic nervous control associated with beta-ARs polymorphisms.

The recently identified trans-membrane G protein-coupled estrogen receptor 1 (GPER, GPR30) has been implicated in rapid non-genomic effects of estrogens. This focuses on expression and localization of GPER mRNA and protein in normal cyclic endometrium and early pregnancy decidua. Real-time PCR, western blotting, in situ hybridization and immuno-histochemistry were used. Endometrial expression of GPER mRNA was lower in the secretory phase than in the proliferative phase, and even lower in the decidua. The expression pattern was similar to that of ERα mRNA, but different from that of ERß mRNA. Western blot detected GPER protein as a 54 kDa band in all endometrial and decidual samples. In contrast to the mRNA, GPER protein did not show cyclic variations. Apparently, a lower amount of mRNA is sufficient to maintain protein levels in the secretory phase. GPER mRNA was predominantly localized in the epithelium of mid- and late-proliferative phase endometrium, whereas expression in early proliferative and secretory glands could not be distinguished from the diffuse stromal signal, which was present throughout the cycle. Immuno-staining for GPER was stronger in glandular and luminal epithelium than in the stroma throughout the cycle. The cyclic variations of GPER mRNA obviously relate to strong epithelial expression in the proliferative phase, and the expression pattern suggests regulation by ovarian steroids. GPER protein is present in endometrial tissue throughout the cycle, and the epithelial localization suggests potential functions during sperm migration at mid-cycle, as well as decidualization and blastocyst implantation in the mid-secretory phase.

Cutaneous lymphomas are relatively rare malignant lesions. Lymphomas limited to the skin are uncommon and most patients have a generalized disease. The head and neck are the most common sites of presentation. This lesion is diagnostically problematic since histologic distinction from several benign cutaneous lymphocytic infiltrates is occasionally difficult and thus its clinical behavior is unpredictable. The most common histopathologic subtype is diffuse histiocytic lymphoma and therapy is analogous to that for lymphomas arising elsewhere. The prognosis of lymphoma presenting in the skin is dependent upon the initial extent of the disease and probably upon histology. A case of cutaneous malignant lymphoma arising at the nasal tip, surgically treated, is presented.
