[Rapid detection and easy culture of Campylobacter pylori from human gastric mucosa]. / Príspevek k rychlému prukazu a snadné kultivaci Campylobacter pylori z lidské zaludecní sliznice.

96 gastric mucosal biopsy specimens collected at endoscopy and placed into 3 ml 20% glucose were examined histologically, microscopically (Gram staining), by urease test, and by cultivation. The rate of positive findings ws 62.5% by urease test, 34.4% by cultivation, and 27.0% microscopically. By using simple selective solid media, the number of positive cultivations increased to 58.7%. Positive microbiological findings were established by one of three microbiological methods at a high percentage in gastric ulcers (87.5%) and at the lowest rate in duodenal ulcers (57.1%). Remarkable were the positive findings in 60% of patients with normal endoscopic results. In chronic gastritis the highest positivity rate was established histologically (52.6%). Antibiotics without bismuth preparations were used in the treatment of six patients. Check-up examinations yielded negative histological and microbiological findings only in two patients. We failed to affect the inflammatory activity of the gastric mucosa even when consolidation of the ulcer lesion was achieved.

The Slidex-meningite-Kit (Bio-Merieux) tested for exoantigen detection in spinal fluids from purulent meningitis cases.

The Slidex-méningite-Kit allows the used of the rather highly sensitive and specific latex-agglutination method for the detection of N. meningitis group A and C and H. influenzae b exoantigens within a few minutes. In model experiments positive results persisted at unchanged intensity for prolonged periods of time regardless of storage temperature. However, in practical trials performed in a set of 60 spinal fluids from purulent meningitis patients etiological agent identification by the slidex-méningite-Kit failed at least as frequently as by cultivation; in the case of meningococci the kit even failed more often than cultivation. Hence the Slidex-méningite-Kit should be regarded as an auxiliary tool in the diagnosis of purulent meningitis and one that cannot replace the classical methods of cultivation and preparation staining. In the case of positive results, advantages of the Slides-méingite-Kit are rapidity in etiological agent identification and prolonged persistence of positivity in the spinal fluid samples.

Simple method for the detection of neisseria meningitidis from clinical specimens using discs soaked with vancomycin and colistin. Our modification of Berger's method.

In the presented study the author describes a simple isolation method of Neisseria meningitidis from clinical specimens. Besides the physiological mouth flora, indigenous and obligatory pathogens, 75 strains (1.15%) of N. m. could be demonstrated from sputa and pharyngeal or laryngeal swabs using this method. All the strains were isolated during the period from June to November 1977.
