RESUMO

Myocardial fibrosis and inflammation cause cardiac hypertrophy, arrhythmias, and heart failure in diabetics, a leading cause of mortality. Since it's complicated, no drug treats diabetic cardiomyopathy. This research examined the effects of artemisinin and allicin on heart function, myocardial fibrosis, and the nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) signaling pathway in diabetic cardiomyopathy rats. A total of 50 rats were separated into 5 groups, 10 of which were the control group. 40 rats received 65 µg/g streptozotocin intraperitoneally. 37 of 40 animals fit the investigation. The artemisinin, allicin, and artemisinin/allicin groups each included nine animals. The artemisinin group received 75 mg/kg of artemisinin, the allicin group received 40 mg/kg of allicin, and the combination group received equal dosages of artemisinin and allicin gavage for four weeks. After the intervention, in each group cardiac functions, myocardial fibrosis, and NF-κB signaling pathway protein expression were assessed. All of the examined groups had greater levels of LVEDD, LVESD, LVEF, FS, E/A, and the NF-κB pathway proteins: NF-κB p65 and p-NF-κB p65 than the normal group, except for the combination group. Artemisinin and allicin did not vary statistically. Compared to the model group, the artemisinin, allicin, and combined groups showed various degrees of improvement from the pathological pattern, with more intact muscle fibers, neater arrangement, more normal cell morphology, artemisinin and allicin alleviated cardiac dysfunction and decreased myocardium fibrosis in diabetic cardiomyopathy rats by inactivating the NF-κB signaling cascade.

RESUMO

Tomato leaf mold caused by Cladosporium fulvum (C. fulvum) is a serious fungal disease which results in huge yield losses in tomato cultivation worldwide. In our study, we discovered that ROS (reactive oxygen species) burst was triggered by C. fulvum treatment in tomato leaves. RNA-sequencing was used to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) induced by C. fulvum inoculation at the early stage of invasion in susceptible tomato plants. Gene ontology (GO) terms and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) databases were used to annotate functions of DEGs in tomato plants. Based on our comparative analysis, DEGs related to plant-pathogen interaction pathway, plant hormone signal transduction pathway and the plant phenylpropanoid pathway were further analyzed. Our results discovered that a number of core defense genes against fungal invasion were induced and plant hormone signal transduction pathways were impacted by C. fulvum inoculation. Further, our results showed that SA (salicylic acid) and ABA (abscisic acid) contents were accumulated while JA (jasmonic acid) content decreased after C. fulvum inoculation in comparison with control, and quantitative real-time PCR to detect the relative expression of genes involved in SA, ABA and JA signaling pathway further confirmed our results. Together, results will contribute to understanding the mechanisms of C. fulvum and tomato interaction in future.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the regularity and characteristics of clinical application of scalp acupuncture therapy for different types of clinical conditions so as to provide a reference for clinical practice. METHODS: In the present study, "head acupuncture" and"scalp acupuncture" were used as the keywords to search papers and academic dissertations having definite standards for diagnosis and therapeutic effect assessment and published in journals and academic conferences collected in database China National Knowledge Internet(CNKI) from January 1 of 1959 to December 31 of 2016, followed by constructing a database after sorting, screening, recording, extracting, and statistical analysis by using a computer. Then, the data mining was conducted for summarizing the indications of disease categories, involved medical departments, needle-insertion methods, needle manipulation techniques, academic schools, and clinical efficacy of scalp acupuncture therapy. RESULTS: As a result, a total of 587 papers met our including criteria were analyzed. The scalp acupuncture therapy was widely employed in the treatment of various clinical conditions of different departments, with the application frequency being the internal medicine (438 times), surgery (75 times), pediatrics (44 times), etc. Of the indicated 102 types of clinical problems, 55 belong to the internal medicine, constituting of 53.92%, particularly the cerebral apoplexy and its sequelae with the top application frequency being 102 and 115 times, respectively. In terms of needle inserting methods mentioned in partial papers (most papers do not mention), fingernail-pressing-aided needle insertion, needle-twirling insertion, fingers-squeezed-needle insertion, particularly the swiftly rotating needle insertion and rapid needle-propelling insertion were most commonly used.Regarding the needle manipulation method, rapid needle twirling technique was frequently employed, usually at a frequency of approximately 200 times per min. In regard to the academic schools, JIAO Shun-fa's scalp acupuncture system was most frequently used, followed by the international standardized scalp acupuncture. The therapeutic effect of scalp acupuncture is effective in the treatment of different conditions of various departments, especially those of the dermatology and gynecology. CONCLUSION: Scalp acupuncture has superiority in the treatment disorders of the internal medicine and has been demonstrated to have positive effects for many types of problems, particularly for apoplexy and its sequelae. Rapid needle-propelling insertion and rapid needle-twirling technique are often employed.

RESUMO

In the present paper, using data mining technology, the authors downloaded information from databases on auricular needle therapy, and obtained data samples from journals and academic dissertations involving the application of auricular needle therapy to treat diseases, and then screened, audited, and extracted the data and performed a statistical analysis. The authors extracted data on the application of auricular needle therapy in the stimulation methods of medicine (needling instrument), selection of the side of ear to treat disease and the number of times the ear was pressed per day and the compression time. In the stimulation methods, the needling instrument varied, the seeds of cowherb Semen Vaccariae were applied in 60.89% of the total stimulation methods. The number of times the ear was pressed per day and the compression time in the clinic were optional. The main points in auricular needle therapy were the contralateral side; there was no significant difference in the effect of a single side or both sides of the ear to treat disease.

RESUMO

A series of core-shell Ag@SiO2 nanoparticles with different core diameters and shell thicknesses have been prepared by a modified-Stöber method. They provide a facile route to tune the luminescence intensities, lifetimes and quantum efficiencies of lanthanide coordination polymers in the solid powder state. The coordination polymers [Tb2(p-PTA)3(H2O)2]n, [Tb2(o-PTA)3(H2O)2]n, [Eu2(p-PTA)3(H2O)2]n and [Eu2(o-PTA)3(H2O)2]n (PTA = phthalic acid) are synthesized and subsequently bound to the surface of Ag@SiO2 nanoparticles. The luminescence intensities of the lanthanide complexes are enhanced as high as 10.8 times. The enhancement times depend on the core diameter and shell thickness of the Ag@SiO2 nanoparticles. Importantly, by simply controlling the ratios between the complexes and the nanoparticles, the luminescence intensities, lifetimes and quantum efficiencies of the lanthanide complexes can be tuned in wide ranges. Typically, the luminescence lifetime of [Eu2(p-PTA)3(H2O)2]n powder increases from 451 µs to 783 µs when 300 µL Ag@SiO2 solution is added. Meanwhile, the luminescence quantum efficiency of the complex increases from 32.1% to 40.9%. The change of the luminescence properties of the lanthanide coordination polymers can be ascribed to the surface plasmon resonance effect of the Ag@SiO2 nanoparticles as well as the decrease of the nonradiative decay rates of the complexes.

RESUMO

The goal of the study was to investigate the expression of interleukin-17 (IL-17) and IL-17 receptor (IL-17R) in patients with myeloma bone diseases (MBD) and skeletal extramedullary disease (skeletal EMD). The levels of IL-17 were determined using ELISA. The expression of IL-17R on vascular endothelial cells of bone marrow (BM) and masses of skeletal EMD was detected using immunohistochemistry. The results showed an elevated IL-17 level in BM of BMD and skeletal EMD patients. The microvessel density (MVD) was significantly increased in the masses of skeletal EMD. IL-17R was almost exclusively expressed by endothelial cells, not by myeloma cells in the masses of skeletal EMD patients. We concluded that EMD masses showed increased angiogenesis mediated by IL-17 pathway and in part this may help in myeloma cell-growth under these conditions.

RESUMO

The goal of the study was to investigate the levels of interleukin-27 (IL-27) and IL-17 in bone marrow (BM) and peripheral blood (PB) of multiple myeloma (MM). The levels of IL-27 and IL-17 were determined in MM patients and controls using ELISA. The results showed a decreased IL-27 and elevated IL-17 level in MM patients and a negative association of IL-27 with IL-17. The ratio of IL-27:IL-17 in BM of newly diagnosed MM was significantly decreased and correlated with the progression of disease. Multivariate analysis showed that a higher ratio of IL-27:IL-17 in BM was associated with a superior progression-free survival (HR=0.160; 95% CI: 0.058-0.443; p<0.001). Our results suggest that there might be a possible competitive role of IL-27 and IL-17 in MM.

RESUMO

In case hazardous contaminants are suddenly released indoors, the prompt and proper emergency responses are critical to protect occupants. This paper aims to provide a framework for determining the optimal combination of ventilation and evacuation strategies by considering the uncertainty of source locations. The certainty of source locations is classified as complete certainty, incomplete certainty, and complete uncertainty to cover all the possible situations. According to this classification, three types of decision analysis models are presented. A new concept, efficiency factor of contaminant source (EFCS), is incorporated in these models to evaluate the payoffs of the ventilation and evacuation strategies. A procedure of decision-making based on these models is proposed and demonstrated by numerical studies of one hundred scenarios with ten ventilation modes, two evacuation modes, and five source locations. The results show that the models can be useful to direct the decision analysis of both the ventilation and evacuation strategies. In addition, the certainty of the source locations has an important effect on the outcomes of the decision-making.
