RESUMO

Two rapid (pilot) methods for the determination of blood microflora are compared. One of them is based on bacterioscopy, the other on culturing of bacteria. Use of these methods helps increase the detection rate of microorganisms in the blood from 34.8 to 59.6% in a shorter time, 1-3 days instead of 5-7. No additional staff or sophisticated equipment and tests kits are needed for the tests. The methods are recommended for research and clinical laboratories.

RESUMO

The possibility of conducting intraoperative reinfusion of blood in coloproctology is appraised on the basis of complex microbiological, cytological, and biochemical study of blood of patients who underwent operation for various diseases of the large intestine. It was found that blood escaping into the abdominal cavity during operations on the large intestine is hemolized to a great measure and contains many bacteria, and therefore such blood cannot be used for transfusion. At the same time, if blood is collected directly from the pulsating vessel its contamination, marked distortions of its formed elements, and hemolysis above admissible values can be avoided. The dependence on the time of blood collection, whether before or after the intestine is opened, has not been established.

RESUMO

Radioisotope method with oral administration of 131I-trioleate glycerin and 131I-oleic acid was used to study the absorption of neutral fats and fatty acids in 123 patients with ulcerative colitis, diffuse polyposis of the large intestine, and in 7 patients with ileostomy. It was found that fat secretion with feces was insignificantly higher than the normal and fluctuated within the range of 6.6-11.7%. Steatorrhea did not play a role in the development of clinical symptoms of the disease, and it might be caused by concomitant disorders in the bacterial flora. Slight disorders revealed in the fat absorption should not be considered as an obstacle to their normal use in the diet.

RESUMO

The authors analyzed immunological changes in 56 patients with chronic colon stasis at the compensated and decompensated stages. Clinicoimmunological investigation of these patients permitted the detection of considerable changes in the system of homeostasis against a background of chronic inflammation of the colon mucous membrane, dysbacteriosis, colon microflora, and intoxication. Signs of secondary immunodeficiency with simultaneous involvement of compensatory mechanisms of nonspecific and specific body defence were noted in the patients. More profound changes were revealed at the decompensated stage. Immunomodulating measures produce a normalizing effect on immunity indices and on the entire system of homeostasis.
